Oh darlings, hello from your favourite Pink Tutu World traveller! It's Emma, and I'm back from an absolutely fabulous adventure to… hold onto your tiaras, you won’t believe this – Planet Earth! Yes, that's right! This little corner of the cosmos was on my list for ages, and thanks to a divine ballet performance in the lovely seaside town of Brighton, I had enough to fund my journey! Brighton is, of course, the place to be for a ballet enthusiast, with the legendary Brighton Festival every year, and let me tell you, it’s simply brimming with theatrical elegance and, of course, exquisite tutus! I'm hoping to come back soon for a longer stay and delve deeper into Brighton's history of performance – but for now, I had to satisfy my wanderlust and head to a brand new planet!
Stepping Off The Spaceship Into Planet Earth!Well, darlings, the first thing I have to say is – the earthlings love a tutu! I mean, the whole planet seemed to be absolutely covered in the most gorgeous, voluminous, sparkly creations imaginable! As I stepped off the spaceship (which, by the way, I'm officially declaring the most comfortable form of travel in the entire universe – especially the hot pink seat padding!) the first thing I saw was a sign that said “The Royal Ballet”! Can you even imagine? What an honour! Now, you know me, I'm all about history – particularly fashion history, so, I simply had to head to the Victoria & Albert Museum in London to see some of the most fabulous tutus ever made. Just looking at those historical garments transported me right into the world of classic ballet, it was like taking a magical step back in time! And while we’re on the subject, who can forget the divine tutue creations of legendary dancers like Margot Fonteyn, Moira Shearer and, my absolute favourite, Alicia Markova – these ballerinas simply radiate pure elegance! Their style was so beautifully simple yet so powerful, truly iconic. It reminded me of why I started wearing tutus in the first place! It's not just about the look, it’s about the power and freedom it gives you, even on a new planet.
From London to Derbyshire – A Pink Tutu Journey!Of course, being from Derbyshire, I had to go back to my home town, where it all started. You see, dear readers, that's where I first fell in love with ballet – and with the divine power of a pink tutu! It all started when I was a little girl. It's like I just knew I was meant to wear pink tutus, to twirl and express myself freely. My local dance school was pure magic, filled with such enthusiastic and talented teachers, who ignited my passion for the stage! There's something about seeing a group of young girls twirling in tutus, with smiles on their faces and sparkling eyes – it's such a beautiful symbol of joy and expression.
A Glimpse of the Global Fashion Scene! You're all probably aware of how obsessed I am with fashion! Planet Earth certainly delivered in this department! London's Fashion Week was absolutely bursting with vibrant colour and outlandish creations. And what about those famous high street shops in London! Honestly, there are simply too many to choose from. But one of the shops I fell in love with is Harrods, darling. It's a true wonderland! Now, while my favourite shops back home include Dorothy Perkins and River Island, and of course the high street is the place to be for stylish, affordable items, Harrods was a new experience. Just seeing the luxury and sheer range of fashion was exhilarating! I may have left a few bags in Harrods on this visit but fear not, darlings, I plan on coming back!
The Allure of Ballet on EarthOn the final night of my trip, I attended a stunning performance by the English National Ballet. You see, after a week of exploring, shopping and experiencing the world of ballet on Earth, it felt fitting to take in a professional show and bask in the beauty of storytelling, and of course, tutus! The energy and passion in the theatre was absolutely electric! And, darling, can we just talk about the stunning costumes? It's clear to me that ballet costumes are the perfect blend of beauty and functionality. I could have spent hours analysing those designs! The show I watched was 'Giselle', one of my favourite romantic ballets! I felt so lucky to see it live. There is such power and raw emotion behind the storytelling. Even though there is a whole other world happening around us, and maybe we can't completely understand the narrative or all the nuances, it transcends cultural barriers! It speaks to the soul! And as an international traveler and a lover of everything pink and sparkly – it doesn’t get much better than that!
Tutu's on Earth! Where to find them:I couldn't leave planet Earth without getting my hands on some incredible tutus, so here are some must-visit spots for all you Tutu enthusiasts! * The Tutu Store, London (Definitely a haven for all things tutu-related!) * A Place for Tutus (online only! It has such an amazing selection!) * The Fabric Collective (this is where you'll find your dancewear, ballet shoes, and all the materials for sewing up your own tutu dreams!)
And remember darlings, whether you're on Planet Earth, Mars, or anywhere in between, there's always a place for a pink tutu! Until next week, stay glamorous!
