Pink Tutu World: Ballet on Planet Earth - Blog Post #323 - 2001-07-04

Hey darlings!

It’s Wednesday again, which means it’s time for a new Pink Tutu World blog post! As you know, I’m back on Planet Earth this week, but I have a confession to make... I’m not actually here on this particular planet - I'm in my Earth-ship in orbit around the pale blue dot that is my home.

There’s a massive intergalactic ballet festival on this weekend - ā€œBallet Under the Stars" – the biggest ballet event in the universe – it's literally out of this world, and of course, your favourite pink-loving ballerina simply couldn't miss it! I've been attending since 2000 – remember, the whole "Earth" thing doesn't actually come into play until later this year!

This event takes place in a specially built space station outside our solar system and it attracts literally billions of galactic beings! So naturally, it's essential to have a killer look to impress! It's a whole other world of fashion out there! The latest cosmic trends are a kaleidoscope of colours, and the cosmic fabric textures are simply phenomenal! We've got shimmer, we've got glow-in-the-dark sequins, we've got holograms… oh, and of course, everyone’s favourite celestial pattern - starry-night shimmer!

Of course, I’ll be rocking my usual favourite - pink, pink and more pink. This week, it’s a shimmering, star-studded tutu – it’s almost like an actual galaxy has been printed on it. And let me tell you, the effect under the Milky Way lights of the event will be breathtaking! You have to see it! Don’t worry, I'm sharing the pics next week!

Before I tell you more about this fabulous event, let’s take a little detour into the fascinating world of the tutu - because, darling, it’s all about the tutu, isn’t it?

Tutu-ing through time: the fascinating history of the tutu!

Today’s tutus are, of course, a dazzling explosion of creativity, colour, and innovative fabric - all designed to accentuate the grace and fluidity of a ballerina's movements.

But it all started back in the 1800s! Now, I know it's hard to believe but even back in Victorian times they were a hit with everyone in London. You see, these original, slightly frumpy, "Romantic" tutus were worn for that super long, billowing skirt, which would make even the shortest dancer look extra-tall! They started in the 1830s with the Romantic Ballet, so if you like, tutus are actually quite old – some even older than that, but the modern one? That’s the Romantic tutu, dear.

1845 and the ā€˜tutu’ in it’s name… A French choreographer was called upon to make a new ballet, and he created some ā€˜skirts’ that were cut really short for one of his leading dancers – for their ballet, which of course, had the title ā€˜Tutu’! No one's 100% sure how they got that name.

The 'Classic' Tutu… in the 19th century we have the ballerina’s ā€˜traditional’ outfit: the tutu for your classical ballet! Think swan lake! Now, it’s not called ā€œClassical Tutuā€ but that’s just how it looks in this world! You need one if you want to be a ā€˜classic’ ballet dancer! Now that Classical tutu really caught on, and was favoured right through the 1900s! This was really important – because ballet itself, was just getting really really famous all around the world!!

Then comes the modern tutu!! I think, well, just modern, and fashionable! * That's when dance designers really began to express themselves through a ā€˜less is more’ look! We're not talking full skirted skirts like the ones in 1800s - more like a *contemporary, sleek, and simple silhouette. I have a big collection of modern tutus! And don’t get me started on the beautiful custom creations – my favourite one features the constellation of Orion sewn onto it in sparkly fabric! It's the perfect way to express my cosmic fashionista side.

Now that you know all about the tutu's glamorous history, it's time to dive into ā€œBallet Under the Stars.ā€ This celestial ballet festival features incredible performances from every corner of the galaxy, each incorporating its own unique cultural twist and the ultimate cosmic flair!

You could see a troupe of interstellar performers from the Andromeda Galaxy doing a beautiful rendition of ā€˜Swan Lake’... You can meet the most fashion-forward ballet stars from a planet that's almost entirely made of liquid gemstones. You can even experience an amazing performance that's done in zero gravity - talk about a head-spinning spectacle! It's really epic!

There's a lot to love about ā€œBallet Under the Stars," but my absolute favourite part? You’re right, it’s all about the fashion! I spend weeks planning the perfect outfit and doing my research into what's new! I always get a whole bunch of new looks from fashion stores on planets all over the galaxy – and I never stop adding to my collection!

Of course, I have my Pink Tutu World merchandise stall set up – where my designs are sold for a special ā€œBallet Under the Starsā€ only price! I know you'll absolutely adore them, as they combine my love of dance, fashion, and space exploration. It's where my universe comes together to form an irresistible, dazzling experience for the eyes! Think neon green starbursts with my name in sparkly silver and cosmic patterns like you've never seen. There's one for every pink tutu-lover in this galaxy - and you know it'll be the envy of every space princess in the area!

I’ve already got my dance shoes prepped and packed! So I’m off on another galaxy-hopping trip! You can find out about how amazing this event was on my next blog! Don't forget, you can check back here every Wednesday at www.pink-tutu.com and come see me and my world at "Ballet Under The Stars!"

Catch you soon, darlings!

Love,

Emma xx

P.S. Don’t forget, every outfit deserves a good ballet show - it’s my favourite thing! There’s something magical about the whole experience, watching talented dancers weave stories with every move.

If you happen to be in Derbyshire, England, next week (that’s where I’m originally from, though no one really remembers it by then – 2001! I know – my family and friends from home are still a bit freaked out that I just disappear sometimes…) - I really recommend checking out a local ballet performance. This week is actually a super special one in the ballet world, as it’s International Dance Day! You could go with a group of friends – wear pink tutus! It’ll be so much fun, and it'll definitely give you the ballet bug, just like it did to me - maybe that’s how it all began - with tutus?! I have so much to be thankful for!

P.P.S It's also Independence Day in the United States! A massive celebration all around the planet! And since I'm on Planet Earth this week, we've been watching videos of the parades, the celebrations, the fireworks - it’s so lively! It's amazing how so much goes on every single day of the year. There is such a richness and diversity of human experiences on this amazing planet! I really have seen a lot of the real world! And I have to admit, I’m kind of looking forward to when things do catch up – and I actually have to leave here for a bit - and come back again. That's the beauty of being able to travel through space. It allows me to explore so many different places, experience new things, and wear fabulous tutus all the way.

I just have to add this: *I think the tutu will always be an icon. It symbolizes so much more than just dancing: it represents the ability to be whimsical, graceful, and empowered! So put on a tutu - and dance like there's no gravity! *
