Planet Earth Blog - Post 359: Ballet on Planet Earth!

Wednesday 13th March 2002

Hello my darling little lovelies!

Welcome back to www.pink-tutu.com, your one-stop shop for all things fabulous and fabulous, pink! It's Wednesday, which means it's time for another installment of your weekly dose of all things tutu and travel.

Today I’m writing from Planet Earth - and, yes, it is as green and glorious as all the textbooks promise! I landed on this gorgeous orb on Monday and my mind is still whirling with all the beauty I’ve seen so far. Honestly, you could wear pink anywhere on this planet, and no one would bat an eyelid (apart from a few suspicious pigeons, maybe - they’ve never seen anything like a space-faring tutu, apparently!).

A Tutu Tour Through History

Speaking of the earth, did you know this planet has a ridiculously rich ballet history? I’m talking centuries of graceful pirouettes, breathtaking choreography, and beautiful, beautiful costumes! On Tuesday, I took a trip to the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. (London, a capital of elegance – of course it had to be good!)

They had an incredible exhibition of costumes, showcasing how dance fashion has evolved. Now, some of those tutus might be a tad too dramatic for my own personal style (and that colour!) but even I couldn’t help but gasp at some of the creations. Imagine dancing in one of those Victorian layered beauties? Talk about a true fashion icon!

There were sketches and letters from famous choreographers and designers from the past – just imagine, I was holding letters once held by the great Sergei Diaghilev himself! You know I was trying to channel the spirit of those early ballet queens as I swirled around the museum.

The only downside was my space suit. Can you believe I had to keep that thing on in a museum full of historical treasures?!

Ballerina by Day, Tourist by Night!

As much as I adore a bit of history, let's be honest, you all know I'm really here for the shows. So after the museum, it was off to the Royal Opera House! Yes, my little dears, I saw a performance of "Swan Lake" by none other than the Royal Ballet. And let me tell you, this earth ballet company truly knows their stuff.

Those graceful, gliding movements. Those expressive leaps and turns. And don't even get me started on the swans themselves! You'd be forgiven for thinking you were looking at actual swans - so much passion and precision! You guys know my love for a good pink tutu, but even I couldn't help but feel moved by their powerful white and black ensemble. It was truly the quintessential symbol of graceful, pure beauty.

I was, however, a little disappointed to discover that there wasn't a single pink tutu in the whole performance! However, with a few well-placed sparkly decorations, I bet it wouldn't be too hard to revamp the entire ballet… Hmmm, this might be a fantastic marketing opportunity... I wonder if they’d like to collaborate? Maybe we can do a limited edition pink swan ensemble...? I just need to find out how to reach the Artistic Director...

London: Shopping Paradise

After the opera, my trusty spaceship brought me straight to Bond Street. That's what I call a good Tuesday evening. Honestly, every fashion store imaginable lined the street, each shop window glittering with sparkly, stylish, amazing creations. You guys know how much I love my pink and, let me tell you, it was a true pink lover's paradise!

But my mission was not to just admire - it was to buy. So, after hours of blissful window shopping (it's very important to scout out the best finds!), I finally landed in my favourite shop: the most amazing pink and purple boutique called “The Rainbow Cloud.”

Inside, you literally wouldn't believe the clothes! A pink cashmere cardigan so soft you'd never want to take it off? Check! A pair of shimmering sequined heels so stunning they made the stars themselves envious? You bet!

You already know I can never leave a shopping spree without something new to show you, right? (Besides, the planet Earth could certainly do with a little more sparkle!). So, you just know there was going to be a fabulous pink tutu. This one? Absolutely perfect. A beautiful layered creation in pale pink, with swirling ruffles and delicate pearl detailing. Let me tell you, I felt like a ballerina fairy stepping out of the shop!

Planet Earth and Pink Tutus: A Love Story?

But let’s be honest, shopping isn’t the real reason I'm here. Oh, my lovelies, you know what I’m going to say next: I’m absolutely determined to get everyone on Planet Earth in a pink tutu. Just imagine: walking down the streets, surrounded by dancing, swirling pink! Honestly, the very thought of it fills my heart with joy.

This planet is absolutely beautiful, filled with incredible people (not to mention all those wonderful cupcakes! Let's just say that after years of space travel, a little Earth sugar was exactly what I needed). So, my darling readers, I have no doubt that I'll be spreading the pink tutu love far and wide during my visit. And trust me, you'll all be seeing pictures on my next blog!

Stay fabulous, and stay pink, my darlings!

Love,

Emma xx

P.S. My next blog post will be all about the fantastic street performances I’ve discovered here on Earth! Keep those tutus twirling, and don’t forget to share your own adventures with me at www.pink-tutu.com. And oh, did I tell you about the amazing dance studio I found just around the corner from my hotel? Next week's blog post is going to be absolutely fab! I can hardly wait.
