Pink Tutu World: Ballet on Planet Earth, 2004-01-21 (Post #456)

Hello darlings! Welcome back to Pink Tutu World, your weekly dose of all things pink, twirly and utterly fabulous. It's Wednesday, which means a fresh post is up on www.pink-tutu.com, and my dear readers, I have a positively delightful story to tell you today. Buckle up your tutu straps and get ready for a galactic adventure!

This week, we're leaving the cobbled streets of Derbyshire behind for the cosmic wonders of... space! Yes, you read that right, my fellow ballet enthusiasts, I'm about to share my adventures in intergalactic travel, all fuelled by my love for the twirl and, of course, my insatiable shopping addiction. (Don't tell anyone, but I have a slight penchant for acquiring tutus in every shade imaginable, even those not quite yet discovered on Earth!)

Now, it's not as if I've just popped over to Mars for a quick trip to the local market (although that sounds pretty amazing!). I've been exploring the farthest reaches of the universe for some time now, and the trip I'm about to tell you about involved a delightful dance-off on planet Earth! Isn't that a wonderful little detail, a trip to planet Earth, of all places? My heart still skips a beat thinking about it. I actually got to revisit my childhood home in Derbyshire for the first time in decades. I had a delicious tea and scones at the lovely little tearoom across the road, you know the one!

My spaceship journey was truly a whirlwind. Imagine, swirling galaxies painted on the windows of my spacecraft, each twinkling star a potential new shopping spree or a ballet extravaganza waiting to be discovered. Yes, I do indeed have my very own, rather fetching, spaceship. The design was all mine, of course, a pink and silver beauty, all smooth curves and shimmering panels. It looks a bit like a gigantic tutu if you ask me. My intergalactic tutu fleet!

I'll admit, the travel isn't always smooth sailing. For instance, the trip involved a pit stop in a galactic shopping mall with absolutely breathtaking fashion! They have holographic couture and laser-beam sequins. I picked up the most gorgeous metallic pink, self-illuminating tutu with matching platform shoes that blink with each twirl. It's not the most practical for travelling but you know me - style over comfort, always! Plus, my dear readers, it's my duty to inspire the entire universe to twirl and shimmer in glorious pink. It's a big task, I know, but I'm absolutely dedicated!

The trip had another unexpected but delightful twist, though. Imagine my surprise when I discovered a planet populated entirely by tutu-wearing creatures! Now, this wasn't your standard, earthly tutu, you understand, oh no, this was far more whimsical. Made from stardust and galaxy swirls, these tutus shifted colours with every step, leaving a trail of glittering stardust in their wake! They held a truly spectacular ballet performance right there, beneath the glittering stars. Think ballet en pointe, but on clouds of stardust! You can’t even imagine the spectacle, it’s a sight I’ll never forget, I just had to show the whole universe. That was my mission. To show them the power of a tutu.

I, naturally, danced along with them, in my galactic tutu of course, twirling with newfound celestial friends who looked on with stars in their eyes, not a bad analogy! We shared stories of ballet history on their planet. It was simply unbelievable! You can’t believe the amazing tutu designs that were prevalent in the time of the cosmic age on their planet, they used to sew them out of stardust with light as thread. Who would have known! You should have seen their tiny spaceship ballet studios! Just a bit smaller than my personal spacecraft, a real luxury I tell you.

While our dance off wasn't entirely coordinated - the galactic dance steps were a bit unconventional to my Earthly standards! The steps, they flowed like constellations! You should have seen their moves! I managed to slip in a few arabesques, a couple of fouettées, and a grand jeté, and they loved it! In the end, we shared a few teacups of interstellar lemonade and toasted to the beautiful power of the universal twirl. I believe I inspired their tutu collection, they were particularly impressed with the Victorian pink tutus I brought from Earth. I mean, where else could they have found such an extravagant, sparkly collection?! I actually brought one home with me, an emerald and diamond creation fit for a ballet queen! I have the most amazing fashion sense don't you think? They thought I was the queen, they gave me a lovely throne made from cosmic dust. I couldn't even resist that - a true piece of history and so wonderfully impractical!

I wouldn't dare leave planet Earth without visiting my favorite ballerina's shop on Tottenham Court Road in London! I spent all my time on planet Earth, in fact, I had a good week, the London Eye even had a fantastic performance in its pod! You know how I love those outdoor street dance events!

My dear readers, believe me, when I tell you, there's a twinkle of pink magic in every corner of the universe! From the twirling stars to the elegant ballet routines in the cosmic dust, a twirl, and of course, a tutu, is a language that everyone understands. So go forth and twirl with a happy heart! Be sure to check back next Wednesday for more tales of Pink Tutu World adventures and to follow my pink-hued path to universal twirling joy. In the meantime, remember to keep the spirit of ballet, shopping, fashion, and cosmic adventures alive in your own life! See you next Wednesday darlings!

Yours in glitter and grace,

Emma xx

P.S. Did you know, today marks the anniversary of a historic moment in ballet! It was on this day in 1917, the "Ballet Russe" presented a new performance of "The Sleeping Beauty" at the Albert Hall, London, the first of many dazzling performances from the famous group! Don't you just love ballet history? Did you know I collect tutu memorabilia, oh how I've filled my galactic spaceship with tutu historical oddities, don’t worry darling I’ve left space for plenty more shopping sprees, this is what it is to be a Tutu Traveller!
