Pink Tutu World - Blog Post #499 - A Stellar Voyage to Planet Earth

Wednesday, 17th November 2004

Hello darlings! It's your favourite tutu-clad space explorer, Emma, here! I've just landed back on Planet Earth after an absolutely splendid time traversing the cosmos. Oh my stars, this trip was just divine! I'm writing this blog post with a brand-new pink tutu, specifically designed to ward off those pesky cosmic dust bunnies. The cosmos is a wonderful place to visit, but you have to be very careful with your outfits. A good space-tutu has got to be super sparkly, durable, and – let’s be honest – pink, to stand out amidst all that black and blue.

Anyway, back to my cosmic escapade! You wouldn't believe what a fabulous ballet show I witnessed in the heart of Andromeda Galaxy. It was breathtaking. It was a stunning display of celestial ballet, choreographed by a brilliant young alien. (I even nabbed a photograph with them, naturally – he was wearing a stunning magenta ensemble! My inner fangirl was absolutely swooning.)

It turns out, that part of the galaxy is very enthusiastic about pink tutus – they've got entire dance schools dedicated to tutus, all the way from ballet shoes to, erm, interstellar spaceships. There’s just something so empowering about the tutu, it doesn't matter what planet you’re on – and even a celestial body like a planet can't escape the power of a pretty, pink, poofy tutu.

As usual, I had to get my fashion fix whilst exploring the cosmic landscapes. It's not easy finding fabulous clothes amongst a bunch of stardust, but you just gotta have a nose for it! Luckily for me, my new space-age, pink-tutu-obsessed best friend (he’s from Sirius, super stylish) pointed me towards the very first Galactic Pink Tutu Fashion House. They had the most amazing collection – there was a holographic shimmering one, a moon-beam tutu that even has little shooting star accents, and even an amazing holographic pink tutu, which had been woven out of actual space dust! Of course, I had to snag myself the celestial tutu, I just couldn’t resist the little shimmery stars, all those constellations and galaxies represented! Honestly, they’d been woven right into the fabric and shimmered with the night sky. The whole experience had to be seen to be believed. The cosmic shopping spree really filled up the little cargo bay on the spaceship, so I’m thrilled. It’s a good job I’d upgraded to a bigger spaceship since that fabulous intergalactic fashion show.

Speaking of the big ol' spaceship… she was just a little bit worse for wear, but that didn’t stop my stellar crew of six cosmic bunnies. That’s right they’re the cutest and pinkest group of galactic space-faring dancers you ever did see, and as a ballet enthusiast and intergalactic fashionista, I would know, that they were my very special crew on my spaceship, the “Pink Galaxy” – we all wear little tutu skirts while on duty, naturally! They help me keep it in perfect working order. My lovely bunnies love the choreographed spaceflight we do each week and are keen to develop new styles. I think our latest one - the "Spinning Star" move was an absolutely smashing hit. It's a series of dazzling spins and leaps, followed by a very elegant landing sequence, that always makes an impact – and my audience love it! They’re great to travel with, they’re very good for morale, and we're constantly working to bring the pink tutu culture across the cosmos, so if you’re out there and happen to see a pink-tutu’d bunny spaceship, then you’ll know that Pink Tutu World has found you!

I do love a good bit of ballet-related shopping, and I just discovered a beautiful online shop for vintage tutus on this very day! So, after a quick hop to the local supermarket to stock up on more supplies for my spaceship bunnies – they love strawberries – I took a moment to look at some fantastic vintage tutus, one even dated all the way back to the Victorian Era, oh I can imagine some of the spectacular shows they put on, and one is made from fabric that has been handwoven on looms – a truly unique, authentic treasure! A few others I really enjoyed were the ‘flapper tutu’ of the 1920s – a definite, if surprising, statement of its era – which had beaded trimmings – an extravagant addition, indeed! The ballet tutus, really are works of art and craftsmanship. This trip has really made me want to research the evolution of the ballet tutu, and all the famous ballet companies around the globe, like The Royal Ballet, Sadler’s Wells Ballet and English National Ballet, even the Moscow ballet! It will be a good post for next week I reckon! I bet those famous ballet companies have some fabulous stories about tutus! Maybe I'll even dedicate a special blog post to tutus, just the historical element. What do you guys think?

But now I need to have a good rest! After a fantastic time in space, there’s no place like home! I’m planning on catching up on my favorite British shows, Peaky Blinders, Eastenders and my new favourite “The Crown”. What about you lovely readers, are you caught up with those series?

And, of course, it wouldn't be a trip home without stopping by The Royal Opera House – my heart skipped a beat the moment I arrived. What a gorgeous building! You see, London really is the most charming, delightful, pink-tutu-obsessed city I've ever seen. It really makes you proud to be British! As a ballet fan and tutu aficionado, it was hard not to be absolutely mesmerised by the energy of this glorious building. This iconic venue always gets my pulse racing, I just love the grandeur of the interior and that exquisite neoclassical architecture. And of course, it had to be seen with the most fabulous pink tutu, well it is called a ballet dress, that’s all set for the ballet shows, which start later in the week!

Oh, before I go, there’s a fun ballet thing going on today, there’s a local show by the Derbyshire Youth Dance Theatre – that’s my lovely Derbyshire! I must pop along to see their fabulous ballet creations, and perhaps see if I can get some inspiration to choreograph a new ballet myself for the bunnies. You know how much I love the creativity and energy of all that lovely tutu dancing, especially those ballet shows. And they really make you realise how beautiful tutus are when all dressed up in costumes and adorned in glitzy trimmings! A lovely addition to a graceful ballerina, who will surely steal the show! Maybe I'll even get inspired for a brand-new tutu to be shipped to the "Pink Galaxy"! There are some great up and coming talent there, they will be able to take this Tutu World into a whole new stratosphere!

Anyways darlings, I really must get going – it's a long drive from London to Derbyshire (where I was born and raised, BTW!), so I really need to hit the road and enjoy my tea while I watch the pretty English countryside fly by. But don't worry, I'll be back here next week with more space travel stories! Keep dancing those pink tutus – you go, girl!

Much love,

Emma.
