Pink Tutu World: Ballet on Planet Earth - 2005-07-06 (Post #532)

Hello, darlings! It’s Emma, your friendly neighbourhood tutu-wearing, space-travelling ballerina, and welcome back to Pink Tutu World! Today’s blog post is extra special, as it's about a rather momentous occasion: my very first visit to the celestial shores of planet Earth! Yes, that’s right, dear readers, earth!

For those of you who are new to the Pink Tutu World galaxy, let me just say that this Earth place is… intense. I’m talking about mind-boggling diversity (we’re not talking just shades of pink, although, believe me, there’s a pink for every personality on Earth), a whole other level of flora and fauna (the flora is quite nice, the fauna is a little bit hairy but generally very cuddly, and definitely requires the odd dose of ā€œpinkificationā€), and of course, a rich history that can only be described as dramatic!

So, let’s rewind a little bit. Where do I even begin? I landed on planet Earth (or should I say crash landed?) in a spaceship borrowed from a friend in the Andromeda Galaxy. A few weeks before my arrival, the Earthian news channels were going wild with rumours of a possible "UFO sighting". Well, that's a bit of an understatement. Let's just say they didn’t exactly expect the flamboyant pink tutu wearing ballerina with an aversion to beige (and yes, it’s a serious thing - beige just doesn't work on my skin tone, I've tried!). Anyway, after landing, I made a beeline for the nearest theatre. This was it, my moment – a chance to perform ballet on this Earth thing!

First of all, I want to tell you about the theatre itself, because this was no ordinary theatre, darlings, oh no. This was the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden. That’s right – Covent Garden! Just the name of the place sounded so perfectly glamorous – it could only mean posh fashion, sophisticated architecture and… you guessed it! Theatrical grandeur. As soon as I walked through those giant, mahogany doors, I knew I was in for a treat. The place was packed with some of the most elegant Earth creatures I’d ever seen – and they loved it!

They really loved it! Everyone, everyone was cheering at the end. A whole world full of human, well... Earthlings, mesmerised by the graceful choreography, the elegant costumes, and that unmistakable ballet magic that brings out the human in every species, even in the hairless Earth variety.

What else could you do on your first Earth visit? I felt utterly glamorous (that is how I live my life – in my tutu). And I think my outfits had them totally spellbound. One lady in a navy blue dress and emerald green shoes even came up to me at the intermission, tears in her eyes, to say she had seen ā€œa certain famous ballerinaā€ do Giselle here over a decade ago – that was one of the most touching things! She said the performance was so similar that it reminded her of how amazing she felt then. We then had a deep conversation about tutu history - I did find it rather extraordinary to hear an earthling talk about ā€œthe Golden Ageā€ of tutus… something you could talk about in length on our world.

Then the rest of the Earth visit was rather an odd story in itself. You see, what happened was…

...I accidentally dropped my lucky coin-shaped lucky star amulet in one of their Earthling ā€œtea shopsā€. I wasn’t really thinking about it, just totally engrossed in their bizarrely fascinating "sconesā€ and "afternoon tea." They look odd in my opinion. What is a ā€œsconeā€, by the way? And what is "tea" if not an exotic leaf that one throws into the water? And then, while enjoying the Earth's bizarre tea time tradition, my luck just disappeared – vanished. Just like that. And they didn’t have any pink tutus in that shop either – they just didn’t understand fashion! I am thinking of starting up a "Pink Tutu World Boutique" on the planet Earth one day… when I’m ready.

So I left with a few Earthling souvenirs, most notably this peculiar book entitled ā€œPride and Prejudiceā€ which I understand is one of their famous works. The Earthlings seem rather dramatic, you know, when they're not busy going to the ballet, of course! There is something very romantic about the whole culture, which, in itself, is a nice little twist for my little, perfectly-pink tutu universe. So anyway, I promised myself that I’d return. Now the book says to visit Jane Austen's country house – what is a ā€œcountry houseā€, darling? And what exactly is ā€œEnglandā€? So, the whole Jane Austen experience... well, let's say I am very curious, and that will be next time... maybe I will bring Pride and Prejudice to Pride and Prejudice… a story in the making!

So until next week, lovelies, let your hearts lead you – and always remember, pink tutus never let you down. Remember, I’m always on www.pink-tutu.com, posting new blog posts every Wednesday! Now, go out there and be the brightest star in the galaxy – you deserve it! Until next week, darling, let's do ballet on this crazy little planet we call Earth!
