Hello, darling readers! Emma here, your favourite pink tutu-wearing intergalactic ballerina, back with another blog post from our home planet, Earth! It's Wednesday, June 29th, 2005, and my goodness, you won't believe what adventures I've been having!
As you know, my aim in life is to spread the joy and twirl-tastic power of pink tutus across the whole universe! It's a big mission, and sometimes it feels like a lonely one. So, this week, I decided to return to the planet of my birth, dear old Earth, to rekindle the spirit of twirling with some lovely Earthlings.
After all, Earth is where the love affair with ballet first bloomed. I was lucky enough to be born in Derbyshire, England, a place full of quaint villages and rolling hills – not exactly the stuff of dreams for a future ballerina! But it was where I first discovered the joy of spinning around the room, feeling the silk of my imaginary tutu swirl around me, and hearing the music in my head that only I could hear.
However, Earth is not just where the history of ballet begins; it is where it thrives today. From the majestic stages of the Royal Opera House to the buzzing street performances that bring ballet to the public square, the planet is a melting pot of graceful movements and passionate expression.
So, what have I been up to? Let me tell you all about it, darlings!
Back to Earth - Fashion & Ballet!I landed my spaceship in the heart of London, the most fabulous city on Earth! Firstly, a girl needs to shop, and this time, the hunt was for the perfect new pink tutu for a very special performance later. It was a pink masterpiece, a cloud of gossamer tulle, soft as a whisper and as big as my wildest dreams. The perfect shade, a blushing petal pink, it brought out my eyes and complimented my perfectly curled, pink-tinged hair. It’s definitely the kind of tutu that would inspire the shyest soul to rise up, take a bow, and claim their stage.
Then, the grand opening of the new “Ballet in Motion” exhibition at the V&A museum. They say I have an impressive ballet history collection, but the museum really took the cake this time. My favourite piece? A silk tutu worn by Margot Fonteyn in the early 1900s, oh my goodness! I was lost in the world of ballet costumes for hours. My tutu collection might just need a tiny upgrade, darlings, don’t you agree?
After my tutu shopping spree and cultural indulgence, I had to treat myself to a night at the London Coliseum to watch “Swan Lake” in all its glory. Oh, the beauty! It was almost as beautiful as the time I saw “Swan Lake” on the ice planet, Kryos! Imagine swans skating, glittering like frosted diamonds, with plumes of gas trailing like spun silver. Stunning! But, back to Earth, “Swan Lake” at the Coliseum was a perfect ballet experience; powerful, moving, and just as beautiful as I remember from when I saw it in London as a young girl. The choreography, the costumes, the dramatic story, and the passion on those talented dancer's faces - simply breathtaking!
After the ballet, I made my way to a glamorous evening affair for the launch of the new book on the history of tutus. Talk about my kind of crowd, darlings! From fashion designers and ballet dancers to vintage fashion lovers and textile enthusiasts, the event was a glorious whirl of conversations and excitement. There were drinks, dancing, and a delectable assortment of petit fours that tasted as heavenly as the tutus we were discussing. I even got to chat with a world-renowned tutu historian - so fascinating! The excitement was buzzing as she spoke about the evolution of the tutu from its simple origins in the 18th century to the iconic masterpieces we know and love today. We reminisced about the grand ballerinas of the past who had adorned themselves with those incredible creations. The power and magic of tutus was radiating throughout the room. They are so much more than a simple garment - they are art, they are history, they are a symbol of beauty and movement.
Tutu-ific Times & Lessons From EarthOn my last day in London, I decided to indulge in the city’s vibrant street ballet scene. Oh darling, there is a dance troupe called “Tutus on the Street” that puts on these unbelievable performance right in the heart of Covent Garden, just next to that fabulous fruit and flower market. They even offer free workshops, which is fabulous, isn’t it?
These girls (and boys, yes, even boys look lovely in pink tutus!) perform right there on the pavement, showcasing amazing choreography and innovative movements. They definitely proved that you don't need a grand stage or expensive tickets to experience the beauty and excitement of ballet. This vibrant energy reminded me how essential it is to remember where I came from, and that the best tutus come from sharing my passion. It’s all about letting those pink tutus shine.
What a week it has been! London reminds me why this old planet holds such a special place in my heart. The city truly inspires. Now, off I go to the next chapter of my intergalactic adventures. That's right, Neptune! My ballet performance is set to illuminate the skies on 1st August with all the elegance of pink tulle under the dazzling colours of Neptune's shimmering atmosphere. Fashion Picks of the Week!Darling, before I go, I’ve been experimenting with some fabulous new colours this week! From soft lavender to bold turquoise and shimmery rose gold, it's amazing how pink tutus really bring out the colour in every shade. It makes me even more determined to have everyone, even space-age aliens and star creatures, wearing tutus!
- I’ve also just discovered the new line of organic silk tutus by the lovely designer, Rose de Luxe! Those exquisite creations look fantastic on Neptune’s lush meadows, where the grass shimmers a beautiful, iridescent blue.
- For the daring and experimental fashionista, check out the new line of “Cosmic Tutu” wear by the space-fashion icon, Starblazer. I am going to purchase their brand new line in silver and crimson hues - the details are gorgeous!
