Pink Tutu World: Planet Earth - Ballet on Planet Earth! (Post 530)

Wednesday, June 22nd, 2005

Darling readers, you won't believe where I am! This week, I'm back on the planet Earth for the first time in months! You might be wondering, "Emma, haven't you been away for longer?" Why, yes, dear reader, I have! But what better way to celebrate my homecoming than with a little ballet extravaganza?

Before we get to the glitz and glamour of Planet Earth, let's get down to basics! For you, dear readers, who don't know my tale of pink tutu and intergalactic ballet, allow me to introduce myself: I am Emma, and it is my absolute passion to fill the universe with pink tutus! I travel the galaxy on my trusty spaceship, performing magical ballets on every planet I visit. And my adventures? Well, they are simply out of this world! But, to make all those dazzling performances happen, I have to keep things grounded here on Planet Earth too. That’s where this fabulous blog, Pink Tutu World, comes in! This is where I share all my galactic gossip and earthly inspiration with you lovely readers every single Wednesday!

Well, after all this galavanting around the galaxy, I simply had to make my way back to good old Derbyshire, England, for a dose of home comforts! Now, you might be thinking, "Isn't Emma’s hometown quite far from a proper ballet world, darling? " Yes, you might be right, dear readers, but it's home! And anyway, home is wherever my Pink Tutu World is going strong, don't you think?

I have a surprise in store for my Planet Earth blog post this week! Because today, dear readers, is the day I've been longing for - it’s my birthday! How perfect is it, to be back on my home planet on my birthday, enjoying the most amazing ballet performance!

I’ll fill you in on the rest of the details in a moment! But first, let’s delve into the fun of Planet Earth ballet for a moment. Now, Planet Earth ballet history!

This brings us back to 17th century Europe. Believe it or not, the earliest form of ballet as we know it today, developed here in France! From King Louis XIV's Sun King court, the grand steps and refined art form slowly evolved, spreading across the globe from these majestic beginnings. And guess what else was spreading throughout the land of Planet Earth back then? Tutús! Yes, darling, this fluffy form of dress became all the rage in the 1800s. These little marvels came into fashion when ballet became more athletic, making it possible for female dancers to finally have full, elegant movements on stage! This made those stunning jumps, turns, and grand leaps so much easier, giving them a breathtaking sense of movement.

Did you know that it took over a century, darling, for this type of fashion to reach from those majestic, glittering European opera houses to Planet Earth everyday lives? Just a century ago, women could never have dreamt of prancing about in these delicate dance dresses, let alone rocking a pink one, darling.

That's one of my biggest passions on this little Planet Earth: sharing my love for the exquisite world of ballet with you lovely readers and all those people who haven't quite realised the incredible impact this art form has had on Planet Earth's fashion history. Can you even imagine a world without ballet? I know I certainly can't.

Today, I’ve spent the day enjoying my birthday with a fab ballet performance at the world famous Sadler’s Wells Theatre. This beautiful theatre on London's Rosebery Avenue has always had a very special place in my heart, because it’s been dedicated to supporting a range of different performance arts since 1931.

I joined a special celebration, where they were bringing the theatre back to life in its new stage layout after a year-long refurbishment, with some special performances to help bring all the magical events in London's Covent Garden to a crescendo during the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. This year, there’s a spectacular variety of ballet, musical, dance, and theatre performances to entertain you throughout the Summer months!

There’s one particularly special show on the 26th of June, that is bringing together some of the UK's very best street performers! Street ballet! A bit unconventional, darling, but, what could be more exciting! This special event will take you to a whirlwind journey into some incredible creative stories from the world's most unique performers.

My journey to Planet Earth was a little hectic this week, darling, so it's been all about fashion for me, as usual, and, there's no better place than Covent Garden to get your fashion fix. Oh darling, you know, my home-coming couldn't have been better, because I found the most gorgeous pale pink chiffon tutu to compliment a matching floral headband, and, if you could have seen my eyes lighting up, you would have known, it's the ultimate outfit, darling! I can't wait to share pictures of my fabulous, little look with you lovely readers soon!

Of course, this weekend won't just be a chance to shop ‘til I drop, darling. There’s an entire feast of things to do on the Covent Garden Festival line-up. The Royal Opera House's ‘Garden Party’ celebrating Shakespeare's anniversary will be dazzling with performances in the stunning, world famous gardens. For this very special weekend, the stage will be set, lit, and ready for ballet, drama, music and theatre all weekend.

As if I’m not already completely bursting with ideas, the London Underground's “Musical Piccadilly” is bringing its beautiful music and fashion performances, with spectacular designs, stunning dance moves, and of course, a pink tutu or two!

After all the dancing, there's so much more to enjoy in Covent Garden, a visit to the National Gallery for one of my favorite Planet Earth arts adventures. Some days it just doesn't feel like I'm even on Earth, it's just one magnificent art museum, after another.

Of course, a good trip wouldn’t be complete without a lovely dinner and drinks at one of my favorite Covent Garden restaurants. And if there’s one thing you need to do this weekend in London, darling, it’s catch some live music on the St. Martin's Lane street - it’s absolutely buzzing every single week.

After all these cultural delights, my birthday is looking absolutely perfect. And of course, after indulging in a fantastic birthday meal on Planet Earth, it will be back to my spaceship for me, to start plotting my next intergalactic journey to new exciting ballet and fashion planets! Oh darling, the adventures are just beginning, but I have to get back to you in a week with all my other exciting news! Be sure to check back here on the website, darling, every Wednesday, to stay updated with the adventures in my Pink Tutu World! Have a lovely week, darlings.
