Pink Tutu World: Post 606 – Ballet on Planet Earth: 6th December 2006

Dearest Tutuettes,

Well, hello there from your favourite spacefaring ballerina! Today's post finds me back on dear old Planet Earth, with a whole host of sparkly tales to tell. Let's take a trip down memory lane, shall we?

The journey back was, as always, an absolute whirlwind. Who knew a three-day space journey could be so exhausting, even with a first-class, plush pink-tutu themed cabin on the Stellar Express? It wasn’t the lack of gravity – the zero-g experience is heavenly! I even found time to fit in a couple of quick spins and some elegant grand jetés mid-flight. (One of them went hilariously wrong, resulting in a tangled tutu and a very clumsy attempt to land on my feet! Oh, the drama! Luckily, I caught the camera before the audience had the chance!)

But I digress.

The real highlight of this trip was, of course, The Annual Intergalactic Ballet Festival held on planet Zirconia. You could say the festivities went off with a bang, but in this case, they really did go off with a glitter-bomb explosion! Honestly, it was such an amazing spectacle of interstellar artistry. It was just incredible to see such diverse and colourful styles of ballet, each unique to their home planets.

It's not everyday you get to see a show performed by the shimmering Blue Starlings of Alpha Centauri, complete with shimmering wings made of liquid silver and iridescent turquoise plumes that streamed behind them as they danced! And the acrobatic artistry of the Mars Martians? Honestly, the way they flipped and cartwheeled across the stage without breaking a sweat was awe-inspiring.

Let me tell you, there was not a single boring moment at The Annual Intergalactic Ballet Festival. You could practically feel the energy emanating from the stage, making the whole atmosphere crackle with excitement. And oh my goodness, the costumes! Imagine, if you will, swirling nebulas woven into sequined silk gowns, vibrant supernova dresses sparkling with glittering stardust, and metallic solar system leotards with flowing, holographic tulle tutus. Simply breathtaking!

It almost went without saying that my favourite part of the festival was the "Pink Tutu Parade." Oh, it was such a heartwarming affair, you wouldn't believe it! Thousands of dancers from all corners of the cosmos came together in a beautiful and unifying display of pink-tutu clad loveliness. It truly warmed the cockles of my heart!

As the parade made its way across the stage, the crowd erupted into cheers. It was like a giant wave of pure joy, pulsating across the auditorium. It was at that moment that I truly understood the power of pink tutus. They are not simply a symbol of fashion – they are a symbol of universal unity and beauty! It's an honour to spread this message to the corners of the universe, one sparkly twirl at a time!

But as lovely as the Festival was, I couldn't ignore the nagging feeling of “there’s no place like home.” Let's face it, as glamorous as intergalactic travel is, nothing beats coming home to a cosy cuppa, a freshly baked Victoria sponge cake (which I will be treating myself to very soon!), and a steaming mug of hot chocolate – preferably topped with marshmallows and whipped cream!

Of course, Earth also offers a vibrant tapestry of ballet experiences. My mission is to share them all with you, dear readers, right here on www.pink-tutu.com.

*Now, for the delicious details you've all been waiting for… *

This Wednesday, 6th December, the Royal Ballet is hosting an incredibly special performance of Swan Lake, at the Royal Opera House. I cannot wait! I’m looking forward to witnessing the beautiful choreography, the powerful emotion, and the breathtaking costumes – especially the tutus, of course! It's said that the Royal Ballet has some of the most stunning and elaborate swan tutus in the world, and let me tell you, I’ll be getting photos for you! I promise to bring you all the behind-the-scenes details, the glittering insights, and of course, my personal thoughts on the production!

In between performances, of course, there’s some shopping to be done – which is always a pleasure! But this week, it’s all about preparation for Swan Lake. Nothing says ballet like a beautiful outfit to celebrate this timeless masterpiece. Luckily, there is a delightful little boutique in Covent Garden, a favourite of mine, called "Tutu Twirls" – with an array of adorable tutu accessories and sparkly footwear that simply shouts “swan lake!” I’m definitely stopping in before the show!

Oh, and did I mention that I have found a fantastic vintage ballerina doll from 1930s England?! (I think the seller might have overcharged me a bit, but her original ballet costume is so utterly fabulous! It's made of satin and silk with a whole flock of real feather detailing - I simply could not resist bringing her home! Oh, she even came with her own original tutu – although sadly, it's not pink). I shall be finding her a permanent home on my ballerina doll bookshelf.

And last but not least, I’ve managed to find a book of original ballerina sketches from the Victorian era. Can you believe how intricately detailed and expressive these drawings are?! I think my new collection just found itself another masterpiece – I’ll have to do a proper blog post with all of the exciting vintage goodies I’ve added!

Speaking of vintage – don’t forget that on 12th December, there is a fascinating event celebrating “Vintage Tutus Through the Ages.” It’s happening at the Victoria and Albert Museum. Imagine it, a collection of beautiful historical tutus! It’s an amazing opportunity to look at the history of ballet costume through its elaborate and beautiful tutu styles. I think my new Victorian doll might even get a cameo at this special event… hmm… it might just have to happen!

And now, dearies, it's time to go. I have a show to get to!

Don’t forget to visit me at www.pink-tutu.com every Wednesday for the next week’s instalment of my space adventures. Stay tuned, tutulettes!

All the sparkly twirls, Emma
