Darling! I am so excited to write this week's blog! It's Wednesday already - how did that happen? But it means I get to share my latest intergalactic adventures with you lovelies!
I can practically hear your questions. āEmma! How is your new Tutu-licious life as an intergalactic traveller?ā Oh, my darlings, it is beyond fabulous. This past week I was on Planet Earth, exploring a fascinating metropolis called London. The history of London - particularly in the theatre - just blows my mind. But before I tell you all about it, let me give you a spoiler alert.
My fabulous fashion journey included, yes, you guessed it, even more pink tutus. Because darling, everyone knows pink tutus are universally flattering! I think, everyone should be wearing a pink tutu all the time. Iām even working on spreading the message of universal tutu wear with the pink-tutu-loving aliens on Zazz - I'll keep you posted!
For now, back to my London escapade, where the stage just pulsed with excitement. The performance I saw was Sleeping Beauty, and let me tell you - it was like nothing Iāve seen before! The story, the costumes, the artistry... it had my toes tapping, my heart soaring, and, well, my tutu twirling, naturally! (I'll post some photos on www.pink-tutu.com later!)
But before we get to the Sleeping Beauty review, a bit of London background for my darlings who are new to this planet. London is simply overflowing with theatre, darling. It has been a hub of theatre culture for centuries, known as āThe West Endā in this area. I must take you to the theatre one day - or rather, Iāll show you my fabulous costumes (always including a touch of pink, of course) through my special video tutorials for the pink-tutu.com site - so you can have a fun time dressing up. Oh! Imagine our fun together, twirling, and maybe a few poses, while we have the best ballet time ever. You will love it! Iāll show you all of Londonās theatrical secrets - and we can do it together, as a dance-loving tribe, one twirl at a time.
āA Place Where Dreams Come Trueā - LondonBefore my adventures on the Earthly stage began, Iāve gotta confess - London really was already on my wish list. I've heard the old saying, āLondon is a place where dreams come trueā. Itās such a magical place, with its rich history of artistry and, most importantly, theatre! Imagine, all these historical buildings have seen so many fantastic dance shows - ballet history oozes out of the bricks!
What I especially loved was Londonās famous West End - thatās where you find all the great theaters. Every year they showcase hundreds of shows, a real celebration of theatrical storytelling and artistry, darling! My heart was pounding as I walked down the cobblestone streets ā you could just feel the magic of the stage in every alley! I even did a little twirl in Leicester Square - I always twirl in celebration of the magical, dancing-filled world. Don't you ever let go of your passion for dance, dear hearts! Itās what sets our hearts alight with joyful passion!
Now let me show you my London āTo-Do Listā! When I say āto-doā, darlings, I mean my favourite things to do in the city (while dressed in the most beautiful tutu of the day, of course!).
āA Dance-Lover's Guideā to London: 1. The Theatres! If you love dancing and theatrics, then darling, I simply must take you to The London Coliseum. For starters, what a name for a theatre, darling! That tells us it's already destined for dramatic elegance. It was built in 1904, a majestic opera house. Just look at those curves and details. But the best thing about it, my lovelies, is that I love to twirl under the dazzling lights on stage during their show. Yes, the London Coliseum is famous for being home to the English National Ballet, a perfect place for the love of ballet - even for those outside the pink tutu! But darling, the moment I twirled on that stage, my pink tutu felt almost royal. (Remember, itās been around for ages - and if the Coliseum knows theatre, you can bet my tutu knows the universe!). It was simply a divine experience.
*I canāt leave out my second āmust-seeā of London. Oh, my darling hearts, I *simply must take you to The Royal Opera House - a masterpiece of classic architectural elegance and grandeur. They are truly synonymous with artistic magnificence, and their performances are renowned for their exquisite beauty. I do hope to go see a ballet on their stage one day. I bet the atmosphere there will be exquisite!* (For now, letās have a moment of silence in reverence for its beauty!)
2. Shopping and Tea!Darling, itās London, the worldās leading centre of fashion. Imagine my glee at entering boutiques of every conceivable size, with designs from the worldās most creative minds, even finding some amazing deals at places like Portobello Market!
My favorite shops? Oh darling, thatās tough to choose, all of Londonās shops are bursting with sartorial dreams, but I must tell you, I found such a delightful vintage shop, and I found this glorious, sequined tutu for a steal! It is an exquisite work of art. It almost makes my London-Pink-Tutu dream real, and my blog posts have really been getting more attention. I think the tutu may just give me that little boost I need to buy the perfect spaceship for the galaxy, or rather, a pink one.
Of course, you cannot come to London without having tea, especially in Harrods. This iconic shop with its stunning interior is just⦠well, divine. Letās pretend weāre on one of those fancy *tea breaks in one of London's beautiful, historical buildings!* Let's have a delightful afternoon enjoying our favourite beverages (you must try Londonās delicious Earl Grey, Iām going to order some when I get back to my Derbyshire home) and have a wonderful time talking about, yes, tutus and dancing, of course.
3. A Ballet Class in LondonDarling, you cannot imagine my delight, my pink-tutu-loving heart was bouncing! After my Sleeping Beauty performance I had to take a ballet class at the Pineapple Dance Studios. They say it is the place to go for dancers in the United Kingdom - well of course Iād twirl here, itās an internationally acclaimed dancing institution.
Youāre already asking about my Pink-Tutu Dance Outfit - well darling, itās so stunning! ( I posted about this look last week). Just imagine that little pink gem (with sequins, no less!) against that beautiful backdrop. Just imagine, our dance-filled day would start at your Derbyshire cottage, maybe a quick cuppa first, but darling, our little adventure in London is waiting. Now imagine the day we travel across the globe to London, where our ballet time starts in Derbyshire, ends with an amazing ballet class and a ballet performance in The West End! And darling, we will definitely stop for teatime with some Earl Grey.
*Well, here's a quick little diary-type summary for you from that ballet class! *
My diary: 2007-02-21
Darling, this morning I went to the most fantastic ballet class at the Pineapple Studios. It was all about grace and strength. As my fellow ballerinas flowed like the finest silk ribbons, my feet became a symphony of twirls, plies and extensions. Imagine a graceful pink tutu swaying in rhythm with every delicate pose. (Oh, you are simply too amazing, my pink tutu!)
The instructor, with a passion for the dance form, ignited our creative spirit with his inspirational direction. The class became a world where dreams took flight. We felt the music inside our souls and performed in such a beautiful manner.
Now, Iāll show you my little "ballet bagā I carry when I travel around the universe, so we have a little bonding time and I donāt get into trouble for not carrying something āboringā. Imagine what you would include, it must be exciting:
My Ballet Bag:*My tutu: *Darling, I simply must bring my favourite, classic pink tulle tutu, just a classic style but for space and planet Earth, in all its glory - a bit of tulle never hurts. Always wear a tutu - Itās our emblem!
*My leotard: * You canāt go wrong with a soft, pretty pink leotard for a dance session - I have a cute floral pattern with some delicate silver embroidery - pure style darling!
*A Ballet wrap: * Of course darling, weāll need this to keep us warm and cozy between those thrilling rehearsals in planet Earthās sometimes-chilly climate.
*A pink headband: * I love my little floral headband. It matches my leotard! I just need the right headband to match the *Tutu every time! **
*Makeup: * Let's get dolled up in front of the mirror darling!
Hair Spray: I know, Iām not very good at hair-spray, but it helps, so you have the time for that ālittle fixā before going onstage.
*And of course: * My ballet shoes!
So, after a delicious afternoon tea break, a delightful fashion escapade, an amazing class at The Pineapple, it was finally time to experience The London Coliseum, which of course is a wonderful place to be when you're into the performing arts - a perfect day!
Sleeping Beauty - London ColiseumDarling, imagine this. I arrive at the grand entrance of The London Coliseum. All around me is the buzz of the show: the excited murmurs, the sparkling chandeliers, the intoxicating air of a magical night at the theatre! And you know what I had on, right? Pink tutu and my favorite pearl-pink sparkly shoes to match the theme of the theatre and the play! It's been awhile since Iāve been on an earthbound stage, but as soon as I stepped onto the boards at The London Coliseum, I could feel a connection to a thousand other performers before me, a collective legacy of storytelling and art.
And oh darling, The English National Ballet was exquisite. Imagine beautiful costumes - such elegance! and vibrant choreography... you could almost feel the emotions within the graceful movements. And letās not forget that magical transformation! Darling, the Sleeping Beautyās costume was exquisite: itās a classic design, simple, and gorgeous with just a hint of glittery sparkle!
Darling, it was absolutely breathtaking - from the very first step of the dancing to the last stunning pirouette, the performance was sheer, unadulterated joy, my darling hearts, unadulterated joy. It was simply magic! As I left the theatre, I felt my heart brimming with so many wonderful thoughts about London!
