Pink Tutu World: Ballet on Planet Earth - Post #653

Welcome back to my little corner of the internet, darling! It's Emma here, and it's Wednesday, which means it's time for another Pink Tutu World blog post! Grab your favourite cuppa and settle in for a chat about all things sparkly, swishy, and pink!

This week, I'm still feeling the magical vibes from my breathtaking adventure to Planet Earth!

As you all know, I’m currently galavanting around the universe on a mission to get everyone in a pink tutu – and Planet Earth certainly didn't disappoint.

A Blast from the Past: Ballet on Planet Earth in 2007

Let's rewind the cosmic clock to October 31st, 2007. I was lucky enough to be on Earth that Halloween – which was actually a very strange date in this time period. For some reason, everyone dresses up as spooky monsters. A shame because there's nothing more glamorous or fabulous than a pink tutu, wouldn't you agree?

The weather was blustery – much like it always is in the old-fashioned world on Planet Earth! And this October was pretty grey and overcast – the dull colours actually gave me a fright. Imagine, a whole planet with only black and grey? So boring!

I landed in Derbyshire – yes, my Derbyshire. It's so much quieter here than when I left. I guess my home village must have fallen asleep for winter by then! I could only imagine the sweet smell of my mum's apple crumble floating from her kitchen. Aaaah. Home!

From Derbyshire to… The Royal Opera House!

But Derbyshire was just my landing spot. A quick hop by spaceship, and I was heading to the bright lights of London! London is a bustling city, quite a contrast to Derbyshire. I must say I love that city – it's full of hustle and bustle and fabulous shops. And this particular trip, my mission was The Royal Opera House. It's a beautiful old theatre and the performances there are just divine. I have to admit though, there was something about the venue, it made me want to be wearing a proper pointe shoe instead of a fancy pink flat like I usually go for! It felt much more regal, like stepping onto the world stage.

So what was on the program this night in 2007?

The Royal Ballet was performing The Sleeping Beauty, a classic. I’ve got to say it made my heart beat fast when I was able to witness this performance – pure ballet bliss! The dancing was elegant, the music was breathtaking and the costumes – oh my, so beautiful!

And here's the exciting part. As an aspiring pink tutu icon, the costumes were really fascinating to me. As any tutu lover knows, The Sleeping Beauty is famed for its beautiful tutus, designed by Dame Margot Fonteyn in 1946. And to think she was using silk fabric which wasn’t even that old back then, made in Derbyshire – a very prestigious material! Fabulous! She created one of the most memorable ballerina costumes in ballet history, I tell you!

I always say that you don’t just need a ballet shoe to feel magical, you just need a gorgeous pink tutu. But if you want to really transform – imagine swirling, twirling and pirouetting in a Sleeping Beauty tutu. The beauty of it is that it’s also timeless and I have to admit, when it comes to a beautiful tutu, they just don't get more timeless than the Sleeping Beauty costume, do they?

That evening, at The Royal Opera House, it really felt as though I was transported back to another age. All that shimmering tulle! And the way it danced with the stage lights… pure enchantment.

Ballet On the Screen

Of course, I love seeing ballet live. There's nothing quite like it. But when it’s a special date on Earth like Halloween – there are lots of spooky Halloween tv programs!

This time, I stumbled across a fascinating show called "Dance Like a Star: Ballroom Secrets of The Royal Court" on the BBC!

Now, you wouldn’t know this but – the story of dancing and ballet on Planet Earth really began with the Royalty! Can you believe that? It's all so connected with our dear Queen, our monarch, her lovely palaces, and her royal household. I had no idea the ballet stars we see on the stage actually came from the courts of Kings and Queens, it’s all a massive family history - just like our planet earth!

Can you even imagine? You go into a grand palace to meet the king, and in between all the fine tea and cucumber sandwiches and etiquette and formality… you have a spot of waltz or a ballroom waltz? So intriguing!

There was also this fun show about "ballet under the chandeliers" called Dancing on Air, which made me think - where would my space tutu fit in at a fancy dress party? My spaceship is much more efficient at traveling between worlds. My friends who travel by spaceship in a bubble are much more sensible, with all the pollution that Earth has, but imagine - imagine what you can see of Earth’s glittering lights at night if you're floating on air!

Time Travel Tips

To help you with your travels around Planet Earth - you might like to know that there's something called an ā€œarchiveā€ here! Imagine that? It's basically a huge time capsule of old things that helps you imagine life as it was! The Internet - also a pretty amazing creation - helps people get in touch and discover so many things and they can see so many photos and videos to see exactly what happened in the past, if they want to time-travel.

But I just found it all a bit distracting because on this visit, I was a little obsessed with seeing everything in its ā€œpresentā€ state in 2007 - exactly as it was.

One of the places I love most is the National Gallery - filled with all kinds of beautiful paintings, by artists that no longer even exist - I'm sure their space-travel wasn't so exciting or maybe they had better travel arrangements back then. I am in awe of their abilities!

This visit, I stumbled upon a portrait called the "Lady in White" It's a painting by William-Adolphe Bouguereau (oh how wonderful!), who painted portraits of very fashionable people and that Lady In White is like the * epitome* of grace, femininity and class! And so many gorgeous gowns too.

Just thinking about these outfits has inspired me for my own outfit choices! I've just gotta get this tutu business sorted with all my friends and I can do something equally impressive – get the entire galaxy dancing in their own ā€œpink tutu worlds".

Speaking of tutus – I need to tell you about a gorgeous fashion store that I found on Earth! I spotted a huge billboard with a girl in a dress, swirling and twirling! A dream! I walked into the store and I felt totally enchanted. I think the brand is called ā€œKaren Millenā€. I mean, it has to be named after another famous tutu-wearing ballerina! (I later found out it's a human called ā€œKarenā€ on Earth, but there’s something royal and elegant about the name, don't you think?

Anyway, let me tell you – the gowns! I loved everything. All sorts of patterns, lengths, colours. And guess what - a touch of pink, oh my.

For example, a dress I saw, oh darling! It was a delicate baby-pink colour, it had a lovely floral pattern on it. The cut of the dress had so much movement to it and then… you get to the most important part – there were all sorts of layers to the skirt - which creates so much extra movement. I don't even want to describe the beauty. If only I could take a video of me twirling in it! I had to stop myself before I started spinning in the middle of the shop floor…

That was just one dress. The perfect dress. Imagine that, all perfect outfits and perfect dresses! So that night, I thought, how can I fit that perfect Earth fashion style in to my pink tutu look? And where will I store this Earth dress because this space travel really restricts my suitcase size? Maybe this perfect Earth fashion should stay on Earth – where it has the benefit of this incredible history. I’m not even allowed to leave the ship with these bags… but perhaps it’s possible if you have a friend that has lots of storage and room in their apartment – it would make a gorgeous birthday gift to put together the *most amazing wardrobe for a trip back in time on Earth! Just a thought…

Where Is Emma Now?

So darling, now that it’s almost the end of this week's post I have to tell you that it’s already Thursday morning in my time zone… But of course, time is a totally relative thing! Right now, I am somewhere very glamorous - as glamorous as an airport waiting lounge on Jupiter, but the internet signal here is super slow - so I hope that all my readers will have fun reading about my adventures – I am writing from my pink tutu bed here, which is a great way to get in touch with all my fans – my readers around the globe and I hope to catch you next week on Wednesday, in my weekly post here.

Bye for now, darlings!
