Hello darlings! Welcome back to Pink Tutu World! It's Wednesday, the day I shimmy my way to the keyboard and tell you all about my fabulous week!
Today, we're taking a trip back down to good old Planet Earth. It's been a whirlwind week in the intergalactic universe and you know what? Sometimes you just need to return to your roots, reconnect with the ground (or the stage, as it were!) and soak in the familiar beauty of Earth.
It's amazing how we can journey to far-off galaxies in a spaceship, explore planets made entirely of crystal, but nothing truly beats a night at the Royal Opera House in London. Honestly, the way the lights glint off the chandelier, the thrill of the overture, the breathtaking spectacle of a ballet performance...it's pure magic.
This week, I saw The Sleeping Beauty at the Royal Opera House. It's such a classic. A beautiful story, an unforgettable score, and a chance to see a world of sumptuous tutus, tiaras, and intricate costumes! It's no wonder ballet remains so timeless!
After the show, my best friend Sarah and I indulged in a lovely spot of high tea at the Ritz. It's a little bit of old-world charm with delicate finger sandwiches, delicate cakes, and an atmosphere fit for a princess (especially with me rocking my pink tutu, naturally!).
The other exciting bit of news is that I've started learning to sew! Yes, my darlings! You heard me right! My very own pink tutu empire is starting to come to life, with my very own creation, the Emma Elizabeth tutu! It's a delicate lavender tulle masterpiece, adorned with beautiful hand-stitched, pale pink flower embellishments!
But back to the purpose of my earthly pilgrimage. Yes, it’s a ballet obsessed’s dream come true. What a delight! It reminded me of how truly passionate I am about the art form.
There's such a power in seeing a ballet performance, an undeniable magic. It takes you to another place and time, a world of emotions, beauty, and exquisite grace. It's an expression of all things that are beautiful, joyful, and graceful about life. It inspires, it transports, and yes, it makes me want to twirl, skip, and leap for joy.
And don't forget my goal! I’m on a mission to get everyone in the universe wearing pink tutus, one tutu at a time, and Earth is my proving ground. Just a few more ballet classes here and there to perfect my triple pirouette and some spaceship travel for some interstellar tutu tutorials. Who knows where the next pink tutu revolution will begin?
My week was pretty much the perfect blend of earthly pleasures and cosmic adventures. I have to confess that I may have snagged a few vintage tutu designs in the bustling markets of Paris on my way back from a spacewalk. That, my dear readers, is just what makes life so thrilling!
I must leave you now. My ship, The Twirling Star, awaits. I have a moonlit rendezvous with my fellow intergalactic ballerinas, we are having a tutu design competition! Can't wait to see what we dream up! And next Wednesday, I’ll share all the excitement of a dance with the Moon people, (Did you know they love a good waltz?) And you never know what we’ll do in Pink Tutu World next! Until then, remember… life is beautiful and you should always have a pink tutu ready to wear!
Happy dancing, Emma www.pink-tutu.com

What was happening on November 7th, 2007
Let’s take a look back at what was happening in the world of fashion and entertainment on that magical day of November 7th, 2007:
On the Catwalk: - The Paris Fashion Week shows were winding down, showcasing Spring/Summer 2008 collections. The bold prints and textures of Kenzo, the structured sophistication of Lanvin, and the dreamy ethereal looks of Chloé made a splash. This time of year always sets the pace for the fashion year and we see trends develop and be reborn! - The ever-inspiring Alexander McQueen also wowed audiences in his show at the iconic Royal Opera House in London. It's quite a coincidence as we were all enchanted at the Royal Opera House ourselves this week! Perhaps we inspired Alexander, maybe a hint of our pink tutu spirit? (Maybe!).
On the Music Scene:
- The Black Eyed Peas were busy promoting their hit single, “My Humps,” with its catchy rhythm and bold lyrics. This song had the whole world dancing and twirling with glee!
- Beyonce was showcasing her new hit album ‘B’Day’ which celebrated her talents beyond the Destiny’s Child days.
In the Ballet World:
- At the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow, Rudolf Nureyev’s magnificent and classic staging of Sleeping Beauty took the stage. You can never get enough of this classic fairytale! I even incorporated some of the elegant and detailed elements into my tutu design!
- The New York City Ballet held an exquisite production of George Balanchine’s “Jewels”, a beautiful tapestry of color, and ballet choreography! We will try to get over to see this some time soon!
How About a Blast from the Past, From Our Fashion Archives? Let’s dive back in time for a peek at what fashion and ballet trends were dominating the world on November 7th, 2007.
Fashion trends:
- Skinny jeans! The skinny jean era is in full swing! Everyone's embracing that slim silhouette.
- Leg warmers, a comfy but stylish way to keep warm during the winter months, are very popular in 2007!
- You won't see a runway without at least one sparkly, glam accessory, especially a belt or statement jewelry piece. This was the year for showing some serious bling!
- Statement sun glasses in oversized, aviator or retro styles are still on trend! These always pair beautifully with a ballet look.
- Ugg boots are super chic! Nothing screams ultimate comfort and fashion quite like these soft, furry footwear beauties.
- Leggings are popping up as everyday wear. Everyone's wearing them with dresses, shirts and oversized sweaters! It's easy, stylish, and comfy!
- The **"rock and roll princess" style is everywhere: Lots of black leather, fishnet, studs, and dramatic eyeshadow.
- Of course, the ballerina style was always trending.
A bold shade of orange is the it-color. A fun pop of color for the fall season.
Ballet Trends:
The ballet trend was about simple and graceful lines.
- Ballet shoes are super popular with pointy-toed flats as the leading footwear option!
- Long ballerina-inspired skirts and dresses. The flow and swish of the long, floaty styles! The more fabric, the better.
- Romantic hairstyles featuring loose waves, buns with romantic curls or even braids.
I find it’s so much fun to look back at fashion trends through the ages! Sometimes trends come back around. But fashion is always evolving and never stops changing. This makes it so exciting to discover what will become popular again, or to predict what’s around the corner!
Tutu Time!
- Let’s take a journey down tutu lane! What tutus were most adored in 2007?
- The classics like the pancake tutu made with several layers of tulle, creating a fluffy, voluminous shape.
- We couldn't leave out the romantic tutu, which incorporated lace and floral embellishments. This delicate look adds an enchanting air.
- Let’s not forget the fitted tutu. It hugged the ballerina’s form to showcase intricate details.
- The classical, romantic tutus that feature delicate and romantic designs! These graceful tutus are always the stars of classic ballets.
Emma’s Outfit on November 7, 2007:
Let's just imagine what I, Emma, might have been wearing on this magical day:
I’m envisioning:
- A shimmering blush pink pancake tutu with a touch of lavender for that extra ethereal sparkle.
- A lace-trimmed white top, flowing to the knee in a feminine and chic style.
- **An elegant but dramatic scarf, a vintage gem I might have picked up on my space travels, with an eye-catching jeweled detail.
- Delicate, high-heeled ballet shoes that sparkle just the right amount!
But there is one constant with my style and that’s always a pink tutu, whether it's a grand spectacle, a casual shopping spree, or exploring the galaxy!
And finally, darling readers…
I want to leave you with something I’m thinking about these days. This new trend that’s bubbling in my fashion galaxy: tutu dresses! Imagine combining the flow of a dress with the whimsical fun of a tutu. A dress that moves like a ballerina's dream! This concept has my imagination soaring and you bet, I will be on the lookout to incorporate this look into Pink Tutu World!
It’s off to dream up another out-of-this-world fashion fusion. Catch you all next week.
Until then…
Stay sassy!
