Pink Tutu World: Ballet on Planet Earth - Post 667

Wednesday, 6th February, 2008

Oh, darlings! It’s been another whirlwind week here on Planet Earth. It's hard to believe it's already the 6th February – where does the time go?! Last week, I was swanning about on a rather splendid planet in the Andromeda Galaxy, watching the local inhabitants perform a gravity-defying dance routine in a stunning, shimmering cavern lit by bioluminescent flora – how I wish I had time to explain it all properly in more detail but time, as ever, is of the essence.

Anyway, you all know the drill – this is Pink Tutu World – my weekly planet-hopping journey into all things fabulous, starting with my favourite: ballet!

Today’s post is a real treat for you, dearies. This week, I'm back on dear old Planet Earth and we're going to explore some amazing events on the calendar – plus I have some real pink-tastic news.

Now, I know some of you are new to Pink Tutu World. For those of you who haven't yet met your delightful host, I'm Emma – a girl who believes the world would be a much happier, more colourful, and generally fabulous place if everyone just embraced their inner ballerina, especially in a pink tutu. I'm from Derbyshire in England, and I adore dancing – of course – especially in the balletic sense, so if you ever happen to spot me at a performance or class, do give me a wave! And do tell me what you're wearing!

Right, now for the exciting news…

My Tour of the British Isles is Coming Soon!

As you know, dear reader, I've spent the past few months bouncing about the universe, performing on different planets. It’s a fantastic way to share my love of ballet with the galaxy! And the funding for my travel – well, you already know – it's all thanks to my divine and rather delicious ballet performances, which also involve plenty of shopping, of course. Because it's impossible to tour the cosmos without adding some fabulous new wardrobe pieces.

But the time has come, my darling readers, for a well-deserved tour back to home sweet home, aka Planet Earth. And don’t you dare miss it – because I am delighted to announce that, from next week, I'm setting off on a very special, super Pink Tutu World Tour of the British Isles. We'll be taking in a glorious selection of British ballets in different towns and cities – yes, I said different towns and cities – from dazzling, classic productions to new, innovative pieces that'll make you cry, laugh, and everything in between. I'm also thinking we might be putting on a few special little shows here and there, with a dash of Pink Tutu flair, of course. There’ll be a dazzling selection of dance styles, fabulous costumes (pink, naturally!), plenty of glamorous evening gowns and all those darling hats … in short, my darlings, it’s going to be tutti-frutti!

Speaking of tutti-frutti, did you see my new line of Pink Tutu World merchandise? Yes, dear readers, a fabulous selection of beautiful ballet-inspired clothes and accessories featuring my signature Pink Tutu look - the perfect way to bring a little Pink Tutu World glamour to your own daily lives. Have a browse on www.pink-tutu.com. I've even included some very special designs that are perfect for gifting, or simply as a little something for yourself!

On The Stage of Planet Earth

Here’s what’s hot in ballet land this week. As you know, my blog’s not just about travelling in space and twirling about in the universe. We always stop off and savour some real earthbound treats here. I do love being home - so much fabulous fashion here on Earth!

Today, it’s all about the Royal Ballet in London. They're presenting a spectacular run of "The Sleeping Beauty", a ballet I adore – so full of grace, romanticism, and, let's be honest, some very dramatic tutu-action. It’s been an utterly phenomenal experience – truly spectacular. But remember, you'll need your tickets – because it's completely sold out. However, I shall definitely keep you posted about where the next fabulous performance is happening! If it’s good enough for the Queen, it's good enough for Pink Tutu World!

On the topic of our fabulous Royals, how about a little historical fun for you, dearies. This week marks the 400th anniversary of the death of King James I! Yes, the same James I who took the stage – er, the throne – during the golden age of ballet. Now, we’re all obsessed with pink here at Pink Tutu World, but as we talk about the royal ballet family we have to have a word for another favourite colour: the royal purple of King James’ court! It seems James I loved to see his courtiers (both men and women) decked out in purple.

Now, you probably know the story: James, a very keen dance fan, brought ballet into the spotlight (a very, very important spotlight indeed!) – and by ‘spotlight’ I mean into his glorious royal court. There was something very swish about having these very special royal ballets, which, rumour has it, he rather enjoyed and indulged in with full enthusiasm. Not only did King James watch ballet; he took it a step further - he became an ardent supporter of the ballet arts, in a huge way – sponsoring its development and inspiring its advancement – in short, giving ballet its first major push to become what we now recognise as “the Royal Ballet”. Oh, James! A hero for all dance fans – and a truly lovely legacy for us!

You can find out more about James' love of all things dancey in The Complete Works of King James I. It's an interesting and fun insight into what people were interested in at that time - even on the royal court – not all ‘formal’ all the time, you know. It reminds me that our modern day “ballet shows” actually have quite deep roots, from all those many moons ago - some serious roots, like a powerful old oak tree - in the twirl-and-tumble world of courtly life, in the age of grand monarchies! All of that royal fancy-footwork leading right up to our “Pink Tutu World”.

Of course, none of this ballet-loving royal business would have taken place without the tutu – this glorious garment that elevates ballerinas above all others! So, as you read this, darlings, don't forget: this very week, I'm joining the wonderful royal ballet community as we celebrated King James I – and all those grand days and even grander performances of those early royal tutu days! Imagine those early pink tutu outfits, my darlings – I'd have swooned.

A Pink Tutu Celebration

Here’s the real reason why I'm back in good ol’ Planet Earth for now. I have to celebrate. This week is also the celebration of the opening of “Pink Tutu Heaven”, my fabulous new dancewear boutique on Oxford Street in London. Yes, darling, you heard correctly: Pink Tutu Heaven – * and it’s all *Pink Tutu World’s fabulous pink tutus, just imagine!!**

With all that being said, I really must go! But stay tuned for more exciting stories – just don't forget to tell me your favourite Pink Tutu outfit of the week on my social channels (I'll give you the links, below). And while you're there, you can look at all those wonderful Pink Tutu outfits - it really is quite a delight. Don't be shy about posting pictures on your social media too, dearie. Now, off I twirl…

Until next time… Twirl on, my darlings!

Emma x
