Pink Tutu World: Blog Post #775: Ballet on Planet Earth!

Greetings, my fellow tutu enthusiasts!

It’s Emma here, back from a whirlwind tour of the galaxy, and feeling decidedly grounded (pun intended) back on good ol’ Planet Earth. Honestly, it’s always a joy to be back amongst the familiar sights and smells of home (particularly the smell of freshly baked scones, which, by the way, my grandma makes the BEST – she sent me a batch by spaceship express!)

This week, I’m channeling a decidedly earthly theme, because guess what? It’s Wednesday 3rd March, 2010, and that means one thing: it’s ballet time!

This week, I’m delighted to be catching the Royal Ballet at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. My little heart is already fluttering in anticipation! You all know I absolutely ADORE a classic, and what’s more classic than a visit to the Royal Ballet?

Tonight’s performance? The legendary “Swan Lake”! It’s a real treat to see this timeless tale performed with such skill and artistry. I mean, who doesn’t love a story of tragic love, betrayal, and – of course! – ballerinas who can seemingly float across the stage? I’m pretty sure the Royal Ballet will have every tutu twirling in the audience with their exquisite choreography.

But before we delve into the depths of “Swan Lake”, let’s chat a bit about tutus, shall we? Because no ballet experience is complete without a good tutu chat!

Tutu Tales

We all know and love the iconic “Romantic tutu”, with its cloud-like layers of tulle. These airy marvels have adorned ballet dancers for over a century, each twirl a symbol of delicate grace and airy beauty. They were revolutionary in their day, rejecting the cumbersome panniers and crinolines of the past and allowing for freer movement – exactly what a ballet dancer needs!

However, tutus have a rich and colourful history. It’s fascinating to learn how the form evolved and how they reflected changing fashions and sensibilities! Just think, back in the 18th century, ballerinas had a very different look – more like powdered courtly ladies with hoop skirts, not our vision of graceful tulle swirls. It’s been a fascinating journey, to say the least!

And honestly, when I look back at the evolution of tutus, it makes me wonder about how the world of ballet will evolve further! Could there be a future for futuristic, shimmering tutus adorned with LED lights? Could they morph and change to different colours and patterns? Oh, the possibilities!

Back to Planet Earth, But Don’t Forget Your Tutu!

Now, while my thoughts on intergalactic tutus are running wild, I’m back in my home county of Derbyshire, and the lovely folk here are not ready for a spaceship landing just yet. But we can always dream, right? And in the meantime, we have so much beautiful ballet right here on our little planet.

And don’t forget, every Wednesday on www.pink-tutu.com, I share all my ballet adventures. This week’s blog is dedicated to “Swan Lake”. So stay tuned!

Of course, after the Royal Ballet, my mission takes me to one of my absolute favourite pastimes on Earth: SHOPPING! A little retail therapy after a day of ballet is just the best way to round off the evening, and you all know, a tutu-loving girl is never too busy to browse the latest designs in ballet attire and fashion.

And since I'm back in Derbyshire, you know what that means... A visit to a charming little independent boutique I adore, just a short trip from home. It’s brimming with stunning dresses, beautiful shoes, and, of course, the most exquisite tutus! Can’t resist adding another pink one to my collection!

*Finally, to wrap up this blog post (and get back to catching my ballet!) I'll leave you with this: wear a pink tutu every chance you get! *

Whether it’s for a day at the ballet, a fancy dress party, or just a walk around the block, embrace your inner tutu-lover and let your pink flag fly high! And who knows, maybe I'll even meet one of you lovely tutu-enthusiasts at the theatre tonight!

Until next Wednesday, stay fabulous and keep twirling!

Love, Emma
