Hello, my darling darlings!
Welcome back to Pink Tutu World, where we're pirouetting through the galaxy one sequined step at a time! It's Wednesday, 24th February 2010, and you know what that means... it's time for another blog post!
Today I'm back on planet Earth, which, as you know, is my favourite celestial body to visit. Now, you might think it's a bit, well, 'basic' for an intergalactic traveller like me to constantly return to the same dusty old planet, but I find Earth to be so very inspiring. The colours, the cultures, the fashion! Plus, I've been doing a lot of touring with my ballet performances here, which really helps fund my space-age lifestyle. Honestly, tutus are in such high demand on Earth – people just love a bit of fluff and tulle!
This week I'm actually in my home county of Derbyshire, a little pocket of England where you can't throw a stone without hitting a rolling green hill and a cute little sheep! Derbyshire is absolutely stunning.
I'm spending this week with my lovely family. There's nothing like catching up with Mum, Dad and little brother Jamie. You know how much I adore them! Even if Jamie does occasionally try to tell me that I shouldn't be taking "all those silly photos in that ridiculous tutu!" Honestly, you'd think I'd be dressed in some outlandish outfit to annoy him! He still thinks a pair of sparkly shoes are "too much," even when they're perfectly in keeping with the entire celestial couture look. You know, like matching my galaxy print tights?
Speaking of couture... oh, my stars, this trip has been an absolute sartorial delight! I mean, Earthly fashion has just gone next-level incredible. Think geometric cuts in silks, statement sleeves in bold patterns, neon splashes, vintage revivals, you name it, they've got it. I even found this divine pink fur jacket in a little boutique on the outskirts of the Peak District - can you believe it? Totally a statement piece for any alien party on Neptune, let me tell you.
However, my true love has always been ballet, so let's get back to that, shall we?
I've been lucky enough to see several incredible shows this week. One highlight was the Royal Ballet's performance of Swan Lake at the Royal Opera House in London. What an absolute dream! There's something truly magical about watching the dancers transform into elegant swans and powerful cygnets. It's a classic for a reason. I even spotted my dear friend, Aurora, dancing in the corps de ballet. Now she is one talented swan. The costumes were chefs kiss. The entire theater was literally glowing, the ballet itself... perfection. The final scene was truly captivating. You know, it was all very exciting, though I couldn't resist snapping a few photos, just for you! I mean, a fellow pink tutu lover has to share her experiences.
Another highlight of this trip has been watching some amazing street performances. I found a group of dancers performing in Covent Garden, they called themselves "The Ballerinas of the Borough." It's always inspiring to see dancers who aren't afraid to perform anywhere! These dancers had real confidence and energy. They had these incredible tutus, like feathered boas of magenta and violet! One of them even wore a sequined corset - divine. It truly inspired me to take my own performance outfit a little further, too. I was already looking forward to the grand finale of my planet Earth tour - I am playing Juliet in a Shakespeare in the Park adaptation of Romeo and Juliet in the grounds of Chatsworth House next week - but that performance will be extra sparkly now. They always say practice makes perfect, don't they? I’ve been practising a whole new routine, inspired by these Covent Garden ballet beauties. Just a little ballet inspired “urban expression”, with a sprinkle of space dust! It is definitely time to embrace some “ballet street.”
Speaking of my planet Earth tour, I am so pleased with the progress. I even made an appearance on the BBC news with my new friend, that very talented cat who lives in Stratford-upon-Avon! Oh my stars, he was delightful. He loves wearing pink ribbons, I tell you. He is also rather a good dance partner too. Who would have thought. All the pink tutu excitement is getting us all moving - from me to a certain feline friend and all of planet Earth.
If you are thinking about joining me on a grand adventure of ballet, fashion, and maybe some extra-terrestrial experiences, be sure to head over to my website www.pink-tutu.com - there you’ll find information about the next ballet tour, or maybe even a spot in my dance crew. It's always so much fun to spread the pink tutu love around the universe!
Until next week, darling darlings,
Remember, everyone looks better in a pink tutu.
Love, Emma x
