Helloooo darlingss! đ©°đ
It's Wednesday, which means it's time for another installment of Pink Tutu World - your weekly dose of all things pink, fluffy and tutu-ific! Today, we're travelling all the way back to Planet Earth (yes, that one!) for a bit of a blast from the past, because darling, this little ballerina has been busy bee-ing around the universe, and frankly, Iâm missing my home planet. So, buckle up, grab a pink cupcake, and letâs go on a sparkly trip down memory lane, shall we?
Remember 2010? It was a magical year, the year Pink Tutu World was born! Just picture this â Emma, your girl next door (who happens to love pink and ballet, obviously) decides to share her passion for all things twirly with the world. She starts a blog (youâre reading it now, darling!) about tutu fashion, ballet history, and her dreams of one day performing in a pink tutu on every planet in the galaxy. That was the goal, darling! To spread the love of the pink tutu far and wide. And honestly, this blogger canât believe how far Pink Tutu World has come.
Now, letâs flashback to that special day, July 28th, 2010. This date, my dearest readers, holds a particularly special place in Pink Tutu World history. It's the day Pink Tutu World was born - a day for celebration! Remember back then, it was all about the excitement of exploring the local dance scene, learning about new tutu trends (did anyone else wear a pink feather boa as a hairband? Donât lie, it was the perfect fashion statement!). And I was so excited about visiting The Royal Opera House to see The Nutcracker (oh, Iâd been to see the dress rehearsals for months and my mother said to give it a rest - but darling, my enthusiasm never knows limits when it comes to ballet!). And of course, I documented it all for you lovely lot.
I remember wearing my favourite pink tutu, feeling so very proud, just bursting with energy. It was the first post of many.
Fast forward to today! It feels like just yesterday I was sitting in my childhood bedroom in Derbyshire, dreaming of being a ballerina. Now, look at me! A universe-trotting, tutuesque, intergalactic adventurer. Thatâs me, and yes, darling, my pink tutus have been with me the whole time. From a star-gazing girl to an ambassador of pink and dance - Pink Tutu World has certainly been an adventure. And I've loved sharing it all with you.
I canât deny the joy I feel from traveling the cosmos and spreading the word about all things tutu. Who would have thought that a Derbyshire girl with a love for all things fluffy and pink could end up touring the galaxy, inspiring everyone from a galactic-green goblin on Xylar-3 to a purple-feathered alien on Yancy-2 to wear a tutu? (Just donât ask me to go on Yancy-2. It smelled funny and was rather loud. Youâd be right in thinking I would only wear my fluffy pink tutu on certain planets).
Remember my mantra, darlings? A pink tutu is more than just an outfit. It's a statement. It's a symbol of love, freedom, and pure, unadulterated joy. Thatâs still my motto today, and darling, it still holds true - from my first tutu purchase at age four at âLe Petite Balletâ, a little store on the High Street in Chesterfield (where you get those yummy chips in a paper cup! Just a tip from this tutu-lover!), to now, dancing through the constellations with all my cosmic tutu-loving friends.
So, darling, you can say this was an intense time in Pink Tutu World. But you know what, when life gives you pink tulle and sparkly opportunities, darling, just *say yes! * Itâs all part of my cosmic, tutuesque journey - and itâs only going to get more fantastic from here!
Stay fabulous, you gorgeous bunch. Until next Wednesday, donât forget to twirl and embrace your inner pink tutu goddess!
*Love, Emma * Pink Tutu World www.pink-tutu.com
Itâs Whatâs On This Wednesday (Remember - Weâre Talking 2010)
Now letâs catch up on whatâs on, on Earth, from back in 2010.
At the Ballet - (Just one of my favourite things ever. So elegant and so inspiring)
- The Royal Ballet at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London: Swan Lake. 𩱠It was in the last month of a run. Did I go? Yes, of course. With Mum and a yummy picnic too (donât ask, but this tutu lover has the appetite of a ballet dancer - think of how many cakes they have to eat after their practice!)
- *English National Ballet at the London Coliseum: A mixed bill of dances, with the exciting premier of âThe Suit.â * - Now, you canât see that kind of program anymore. I saw this twice!
- Birmingham Royal Ballet at the Birmingham Hippodrome: La Fille Mal Gardée - My favourite ballet since my days in The Derbyshire School of Dance and I did see this at home too, not in Brum (sorry! But let's keep those cultural tourist destinations safe!), but it was a must-watch for this ballerina. *
But this was the highlight, of course
The Royal Ballet at The Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London: The Nutcracker đżïžđđ©° The Royal Ballet just announced itâs putting on the Nutcracker again this season! Did you know I once snuck into the ballet's store to have a good look? A girlâs got to know her fashion, you know! You know I had to see this show, which was celebrating the 50th anniversary of Peter Wrightâs Nutcracker. My favourite! There are two reasons why: The dancing (yes, obvs! Itâs an amazing show - you know all the main dancers, the amazing story! Iâm still waiting for an opportunity to go to Moscowâs Bolshoi Theatre and catch the Nutcracker there!) but also because this was THE big ballet event in 2010! (A few years later I saw The Nutcracker in Russia too! But remember weâre still talking about the UKâs Nutcracker! And the show in 2010 was just fab.)
Tutu Trends in 2010
Okay, this has to be for our fashion followers! I found some super sparkly pictures. The first, my dearest readers, shows ballet legend Sylvie Guillem (a ballet star in her own right). Thatâs not a Pink Tutu World outfit - the colour's not right, but those legs! A girl needs some seriously hard training to be able to move with such elegance - but she just shows you what a classic, and chic, tutu looks like, doesnât it. So graceful.
More for you! Hereâs whatâs hot:
- Pink feather boas: I actually did see an excellent performance of Giselle by the Dutch National Ballet with a feather boa in the wardrobe! Whatâs that about, you say? Well, dear readers, itâs all about the tutu (even if weâre taking liberties!).
- Pink tutus on tutus. Pink Tutu World does this regularly, but trust me, back then it was so, so avant-garde! What a fashionista moment that is.
- Pink sequins everywhere. Yes, everywhere, and this trend wasnât so good (especially when combined with too much body glitter - trust me, the sequins on a skirt is quite enough - and on an old fashioned stage! Can you even imagine!)
- High necklines on tutus. Yes! My little tutu dress had a high neck (which, like, everyone did). Now tutus don't do necklines as well because the high necks make for such un-flowing graceful moves, you see. You have to have a bodice for the ballet to look right!
The Fashion Forecast
My lovely Pink Tutu World readers, what better time for me to talk fashion? In 2010 there was no looking back! Weâve been loving pink all season (no surprise there), and it shows. I think the future of the pink tutu (especially in the form of a fashion accessory!) is truly brilliant. Pink is everything, baby! Pink Tutu World is all about pushing the limits and challenging the world to see how fabulous we all can be, wearing a pink tutu, with a bit of sequins thrown in - in all our colourful, tutuesque, sparkling glory!
Oh! You know what else I had on this very date in 2010? I visited a local crafts market with Mum (and bought the coolest sequined headband ever). Maybe Iâll share some pics with you on Insta next week. But we had fun, Mum and I. She was my little travel companion - even after she said I was going too fast with the cosmic ballet tours, Pink Tutu World still found the best travelling buddies ever in my parents.
Have a wonderful week darlings. Until next Wednesday, keep the faith. Remember, wearing a pink tutu isnât about following trends â itâs about following your heart and finding what makes you twirl. Donât forget, life is too short to wear boring clothes (especially if they arenât pink!)
Love, Emma Pink Tutu World www.pink-tutu.com
