Pink Tutu World: Ballet on Planet Earth - Post #811

Wednesday 10th November, 2010

Hello my lovely Pink Tutu darlings!

It’s Emma here, and what a glorious week it’s been! You wouldn’t believe the adventures I’ve had – and of course, they all involved tutus, pink, and fabulousness, as usual!

First, let’s talk about my trip to the most exciting ballet show ever – on planet Earth! Now, I’m sure some of you are thinking, "But Emma, Earth is a little... basic, isn't it?" And well, I'll admit, Earth does have some fairly basic fashions (have you ever seen a pair of trousers, honestly?), and their spaceship technology could use a little upgrade, but honestly, the culture, the art – and of course the ballet – are absolutely brilliant.

I’m from Derbyshire, a beautiful, countryside county in the middle of England, but I flew in to London, that iconic city everyone knows!

Now, on to the real star of the show – the ballet! This week’s performance was Swan Lake, one of the most classic, beautiful ballet stories in the whole universe! For those of you who haven’t experienced it, the story is simply enchanting. A princess is turned into a swan by a jealous sorcerer and must fight to escape his spell! It's just brimming with love, intrigue, and the most beautiful choreography you've ever seen.

The theatre itself was something straight out of a fairytale! With grand chandeliers twinkling and velvety red seats that seemed to sigh with old-fashioned grandeur. And then there was the music. Oh, my darlings, the music! It just flowed through the theatre, swelling with the emotion of each scene, and filling every inch of my being. I don't even think my spaceship was that magical!

And the dancers! These talented, athletic, and utterly graceful performers brought the story to life with every movement. They were like swans gliding across the stage, feathers fluttering with the wind. Honestly, watching these professionals move in such elegance is just a real testament to what the human body is capable of – which, frankly, I believe deserves a huge clap and whoop and a hearty bravo!

Oh, and I just had to tell you about the costumes. There were tutus galore – white, black, and a beautiful shade of turquoise blue that matched the backdrop of shimmering water! Of course, no self-respecting dancer would dare perform without a tutu – they're just essential. But I'm going to be honest, as someone who lives for tutus, these designs really pushed the boundaries. The swans’ tutus were breathtaking – the fluff and feathers were so intricately placed, it felt like every delicate ruffle had its own story.

But of course, what trip to planet Earth would be complete without some serious fashion shopping! And this time I indulged myself in a little "tutu shopping spree" (what else!), and I just had to find a brand new white tutu with feathers to wear to my next ballet performance!

My friend Penelope, my travel companion, knows how much I love all things ballet, and found me this amazing boutique selling bespoke tutus, so naturally I went absolutely mad and picked up the most stunning tulle fabric for a new tutu design that's going to be the absolute envy of the universe!

Speaking of my friend Penelope, she's really embracing her pink tutu! We decided on the perfect shade of fuchsia pink for her to rock at the next intergalactic performance, and she even bought some gorgeous new pink high-heeled shoes to complete the look! You see, even my most down-to-earth friend understands that embracing the fabulousness of pink and a fabulous tutu is all about finding your inner radiance.

After our evening at the theatre and our little shopping spree, we went for a lovely pub lunch – another Earth tradition! Pub food might be quite basic by intergalactic standards, but I can tell you, they make the best mashed potatoes, and a roast beef and Yorkshire pudding will leave you wanting more, I promise!

As always, darling Pink Tutu lovers, stay tuned for next week’s blog. I'll be sharing my exciting new travel plans (it's another secret – just you wait and see!). Don’t forget to check out our fabulous tutu designs and shop for your own gorgeous pink tutu at www.pink-tutu.com – because, let’s be honest, who doesn't want to wear a tutu?!

Until next Wednesday, my loves!

All the best,

Emma xx

But, let me give you a little bit of insight into how I actually make all this possible. The real secret of my travels, you see, is the tutu performances! Every time I visit a new planet, I put on a special, spectacular show!

From classic tutus to cutting-edge designs – I like to surprise and delight, show people the joy of dancing in the tutu and help them to unlock their own personal flair and creativity. All that glitter and flair just takes off with the energy and applause of the crowd.

That’s why I started Pink-Tutu.com. I mean, of course, it’s also for the sheer love of sharing my passion, the tutus, the stories and everything else… but it is really essential! Not just for keeping me above my pink shoes, as my darling Mum likes to remind me (bless her!) but to inspire you to embrace your inner ballerina and go for it!

Think about it: tutus are like a metaphor for life – light, full of twirling, a little bit whimsical and sometimes just full of fabulous fun, always ready to burst forth and be bright, no matter what is happening on Earth. That's what I find so inspiring. And to see my friends and fellow tutu enthusiasts spread this message? That’s really what my heart is all about.

And to answer your burning question, this date 10th November is an important one for me, as my favourite dancer of all time, Rudolf Nureyev, would have celebrated his 85th birthday on this date. He inspired so many with his passionate dancing – and of course, with his outrageous sense of style and the brilliant showmanship he brought to every performance. That was always what I dreamed of doing myself: spreading the love of the ballet. To bring people together, in the shared joy of movement and art – and of course, all the magnificent twirling and costumes! And, yes, there's no getting away from the fact: the pink tutu was definitely on my mind when I designed the costume!

So that is my story – for now! Remember: it’s a big universe out there! And in that huge expanse, there are so many brilliant worlds waiting to be explored! So go out there – travel, find your pink tutu and go for it!

Love, Emma

P.S. My favourite things on Earth so far? The food! That afternoon tea in London, at Fortnum and Mason… those little pastries… the teacups, those are just beautiful. It was all perfectly charming. They must know how to live on this little planet.
