Hello, darlings! Emma here, your resident tutu-clad space traveller, ready to whisk you away to the cosmos of fabulous fashion and cosmic choreography! It's been another whirlwind week here on Planet Earth, and oh my goodness, the adventures never seem to end. Where shall I even begin?
Firstly, a huge thank you for all your lovely messages about my performance at the Derbyshire Arts Centre last week. You were all so wonderfully supportive, and your cheers really lifted my spirits! It felt amazing to share my passion for ballet with all of you. But before I bore you with more tales from my tutu-fied Earthly existence, let's launch ourselves straight into the galaxy of galactic glamour!
Back to the Future, with a Tutu Twist
The spaceship landed this morning in the year...well, you guessed it - 2010! You see, I’m a bit of a time traveller, not just a space traveller. Sometimes I go forwards, sometimes I go backwards, but always with the intention of spreading the pink tutu gospel. This time I found myself whisked back to December 29th, 2010. What a fascinating year! I couldn't resist a quick shopping spree at Harrods - oh, the gorgeous designer tutus! I just had to get a few. It's so exciting to see how fashion changes over time! I think I'll do a dedicated post about the evolution of the tutu later this week.
Ballet Beginnings: A Cosmic Journey
This particular voyage, my dears, was prompted by a desire to trace the roots of ballet, back to its very beginning, or at least as far back as I can travel without accidentally finding myself in the Cretaceous period! (No pink tutu is fashionable enough to compete with a dinosaur.)
So, off I flew to the glorious land of Italy! I had to visit Florence. Did you know that the earliest records of ballet were found in a document written in 1581 in...drum roll...Florence! Now, who could resist a trip to the cradle of ballet? My pink tutu was practically skipping with excitement. I spent hours in the libraries, immersed in those beautiful handwritten manuscripts - like stepping back into time!
La Scala: An Opera and Ballet Oasis
From there, it was a hop, skip, and a twirl to Milan. Now, this city really knows how to embrace the beauty of performance. The Teatro alla Scala...simply divine! I absolutely adored seeing a stunning performance of "La Bohème."
You know I’m all for a great ballet show, but there's something absolutely captivating about the merging of ballet and opera. And did I mention the tutus? Simply sensational, dear readers, simply sensational! So, my top tip: If you're ever in Milan, make sure you catch a performance at La Scala. It's a true spectacle.
And What of the Intergalactic Pink Tutu Brigade?
I might have forgotten to mention it - shocking I know - that one of my main goals on my intergalactic journeys is to get as many alien races as I possibly can into wearing pink tutus. Some take to it more readily than others! This time, on my Florentine trip, I met an endearing species called the 'Flawoni'. I spent some time with a lovely Flawoni called "Sparkle", showing her my collection of pink tutus, even letting her try a few on! I think it might have been too big for her, but hey, the Flawoni aren’t really designed for the earthling kind of ballet, as they have nine legs, so no ballet slippers in their lives. But they did give my pink tutu idea a big thumbs-up! I even discovered that the Flawoni actually wear...dare I say it... pink feather-tutus when they have an especially important celebratory dinner! Imagine: the cosmos will be bursting with a million pink feathered twirls!
But Don't Worry, Pink Tutu Fans of Planet Earth: You're Not Forgotten!
Oh, my lovelies, as much as I adore travelling to other planets, my heart always belongs to the glorious green gem of Earth! In fact, I'll be performing a piece based on my Florentine adventures, complete with a touch of Italian charm and a dash of Flawoni flare! It will be at the Derby Playhouse on the 18th of February, so put the date in your diaries and make sure you buy tickets. I have a feeling you’re going to adore it!
Now, I have to dash - the spaceship awaits. Before I go, though, do share your stories. What have you been up to this week, my dears? And tell me, where would you like me to travel to next? Have any out-of-this-world requests? Do leave a comment below!
Keep twirling and smiling,
Emma
