Pink Tutu World: Ballet on Planet Earth (Post #827)

Hello darlings! It's your favourite tutu-clad, spaceship-loving ballerina, Emma, back from another dazzling adventure! As you all know, my mission in life is to spread the love of pink tutus across the galaxy - one twirl, one pirouette at a time! And trust me, my dear readers, there's no place like Planet Earth to fuel that mission.

This week's blog post is a little bit special, because today, 2nd March 2011, is a date that will forever be etched in the glamorous history of Pink Tutu World! Not only is it the day of the magnificent annual Derby Ballet Festival back in my home county of Derbyshire, but it also happens to be the very day that yours truly graces the stage at London's prestigious Royal Opera House! Talk about a twirlingly triumphant Tuesday!

Before I spill the tea (or should I say, the pink lemonade?) about my own stellar performance, let's chat about that divine Derby Ballet Festival! Oh my gosh, it is literally the most magical event you could ever dream up! Picture this: a cobbled marketplace filled with handmade tutus, a vintage ballet costume competition, sparkling pink lemonade cocktails flowing freely, and everywhere you look, the most talented young ballerinas dancing their hearts out. It's basically the pinkiest dream come true, and I can't wait to get my twirly on with the young ballerinas there, especially the ones sporting their adorable, custom-made tutus!

But enough about my home town, it's time to step up our cosmic game! My intergalactic itinerary has been quite packed recently, which means, sadly, I haven't been able to pop over to Derby to show the tutti frutti (pun intended) dancers my newest collection. BUT, fret not my precious readers, because I'm all about keeping things fabulous even when I'm thousands of light years away. Just imagine me twirling across the vastness of space, the Milky Way a twinkling backdrop to my pink tulle dreams... sigh.

And that's exactly how I felt on the grand stage at the Royal Opera House! Seriously, this venue is pure fairytale and, even though I had already seen a few performances there in my days, nothing could prepare me for the grandeur and history of the place. I had the most divine time in this historic venue. And guess what? This wasn't a normal performance for me. Nope! This time, I had the ultimate honour of opening for the Royal Ballet company themselves! That's right, darlings! Me, little old Emma, performing before the Royal Ballet! It was a real 'pinch me' moment, a dream come true!

And how could I ever dream it up more fabulous than that?

Well, this time I got to incorporate my newest custom-made tutu into the show-stopping performance. I decided to go all out, and with good reason! The grand theme of the entire event was 'the future of ballet,' so I wanted to channel the very essence of space travel in my pink tutu masterpiece. It's truly breathtaking – think silver and holographic textures, shimmering stardust, a few sprinkle-sized moon dust gems – pure glamour and wonder! This tutu was like an explosion of galactic magic on stage. Imagine a universe shimmering in pink tulle, darlings. Just. divine!

And to give it all a cosmic edge, I decided to add in some new moves. I know, I know, everyone's always looking to me to revolutionise the dance world, and it was truly time! It took weeks of perfecting this new move – imagine a spinning, swirling, upside-down jump that just wouldn't quit – but I'm beyond excited to unveil it on the Royal Opera House stage. They called it the "Cosmic Pirouette" because of my galactic pink tutu! It was a twirling explosion of light and energy.

I even caught glimpses of a few of my devoted fans fan-girling during the performance, with their adorable pink tutus on. I know, how precious?! I think it really added to the performance, because nothing inspires me like seeing a whole sea of pink tutus around me. So thank you, darlings, for the support and for always helping me reach new heights (and maybe even reach for the stars, if that's where my tutus need to go!)!

The night, like my tutu, was a truly dreamy mix of old and new: my classic choreography set to a backdrop of cutting-edge digital visuals – oh, my dear, you should see what they’ve done with light projection technology now! The entire stage felt like another world. And not to brag, but it gave a whole new dimension to my pink tutus! Stunning would be an understatement.

Oh, and I must also confess that before the big show, I had to do some major retail therapy on London's fabulous Regent Street. Let me tell you, nothing helps to channel that intergalactic ballerina vibe like some fabulous fashion! There were so many twirling-ly lovely pink tutu dresses (hello, vintage!) in shops, so I, of course, had to snag a couple.

But speaking of London, do make sure to catch the new must-see show, "Dance of the Titans" at the Barbican Centre, this week! There’s something truly magically mystical about the storyline and they have an unbelievable group of international dancers from all corners of the world. I, personally, loved their costumes – such wonderful vibrant colours, exquisite detail, beautiful shapes – they made me want to whip out my needle and thread and get crafting! I just had to find something extra special, something that wouldn’t get lost among the whirlwind of motion, but instead glowed in the midst of it. I spent hours searching for the perfect outfit. Finally, I found it in a little boutique tucked away in a backstreet off Oxford Street! Can you imagine it? Pink satin trousers with huge pockets! It is pure fashion magic, darlings! Just the thing for all of those snacks and emergency supplies you know I always pack!

It's always important to make the most of my time in the Big Smoke! But don't fret, you can always find me tweeting about all my intergalactic travels. Follow me on @EmmaPinkTutu – we have fun to be had there! And, of course, I will post photos of the amazing outfit (pink tutu trousers anyone?) in my blog this weekend, but in the meantime, make sure to browse our online store! www.pink-tutu.com We have the best selection of sparkly, twirly tutus that you can imagine. Oh, and we’re constantly getting new additions, inspired by all the new sparkling experiences and travels I experience on Planet Earth, and across the galaxy.

Speaking of sparkling experiences, remember how I promised to give you all the details about the 'Derby Ballet Festival?' Well, here’s the juicy gossip: it's simply a must-see for all ballerina lovers! I’ve already got a show booked for next year… maybe I'll have a tutu in *every colour by then? Just think, darlings, the potential of all the amazing tutu ideas floating around in this little county of Derbyshire! I might need to launch a brand-new pink tutu design competition! What a divine idea. *So many ideas! * So many sparkling tutus to design, to dance in, and to spread joy across the galaxy. *

It's truly magical, and that is all the pink tutus and good vibes I need! See you next Wednesday, darlings! Until then, *keep twirling! *

Much love, Emma 💕

P.S. Oh! You absolutely must check out "The Story of Tutudom" on YouTube! A delightful documentary that traces the pink-filled history of tutus all the way back to the dawn of time. I literally learned so much and immediately booked a tour of the Victoria & Albert Museum's amazing costume collection. So worth the trip if you happen to be in London. It’s basically the holy grail of all tutu history. Who knew tutus were SO iconic! They really were like an exploding star in the world of fashion!

And guess what, dear darlings? I found the pinkest little detail about ballet's first famous tutu-wearer! Remember the stunning ballerina, Marie Taglioni? You might not know, but she originally wore pink shoes with her white tutus! Can you imagine? I'm already sketching new ballet shoe ideas in my head - pink suede, pink satin, pink feathers! What do you think, darlings? Should I incorporate pink shoes in my next custom tutu collection? 😉

Let me know your thoughts and suggestions below, *darlings! *

xx
