Hello, darling dears! Itās Emma here, your very own intergalactic tutu enthusiast, beaming back to you from a rather fabulous trip to Planet Earth!
This week has been absolutely splendid, a whirlwind of ballet, shopping, and sparkling moments. My latest journey took me to a quaint little town called Derby, in the county of Derbyshire, nestled right in the heart of England. Yes, I actually landed my spaceship on good old Mother Earth - a delightful little side trip before jetting off to our next stellar destination!
And as you all know, where thereās Emma, thereās ballet. This time, it wasnāt about a performance, oh no, it was about history! I made a beeline to the Derby Theatre, a gorgeous venue with so much character. Youāll never guess what I found tucked away in the theatre archives - a treasure trove of ballet programs, posters, and costumes dating back to the early 20th century! My dear tutu, I tell you, my heart just about burst with joy.
The stories those artifacts whispered! Tales of ballerinas gliding across the stage, of choreographers conjuring up magical worlds, and audiences captivated by the elegance of movement. Imagine, darling, an age where tutus were all the rage, crafted with delicate silks and exquisite detail, each one a unique work of art. How we can learn so much from our past, eh?
Of course, I couldn't resist grabbing a few delightful ballet books and even managed to snag a vintage ballet program. Imagine, this program had the original cast list of Giselle! You know me, darling - I canāt resist a good vintage find!
Speaking of finds, Derby turned out to be a veritable treasure trove for the discerning fashionista. The charming little shops along the cobbled streets were chock-full of delightful delights - quaint boutiques bursting with colourful vintage clothing, vintage millinery, and, my dear dears, even a shop dedicated entirely to all things tutu! Oh, it was sheer paradise. I, of course, bought some fantastic new additions for my wardrobe, and I canāt wait to show you all in my next post. I am, after all, an expert in the art of accessorizing - every outfit needs a little bit of tutu-licious magic, wouldnāt you agree?
The food in Derbyshire was utterly divine - think hearty stews, warm pies, and mouthwatering cakes, all served with a friendly smile and a side of English charm. They even do a great cuppa, so much more flavorful than anything they brew in those galactic cafes!
I just love returning to Earth - it always feels so...familiar. The air smells fresh, the skies are blue, and the laughter of children, the rustle of leaves, the distant sound of church bells, all these little Earth sounds transport me to a place of calm and peace. Of course, all those Earth-ly delights are not complete without a ballet performance! And on the planet Earth, the only place to truly experience ballet is at The Royal Opera House. It was truly the highlight of my trip.
And while I am on the subject of The Royal Opera House - did you know today, July 6th, they're launching a special exhibition all about the iconic ballerinas of the 20th century? Now wouldn't that be a fabulous experience? I am certainly adding it to my āMust See" list. And believe me, my āMust Seeā list for ballet experiences is quite extensive, darling! Itās simply a must for any self-respecting ballerina to visit!
To experience those iconic performances first hand, I booked the most amazing, glittering tickets at The Royal Opera House. And do you know what I wore, darling? My brand new sparkly pink tutu with delicate tulle petals!
Seeing the performance of Swan Lake, I swear, it was almost spiritual, like seeing the grace and beauty of nature translated onto the stage, with dancers expressing such powerful emotions through their movements. Their bodies became ethereal, their faces radiating emotions, and each turn and leap was an explosion of colour, joy, and artistic expression!
Of course, no trip to the ballet is complete without a fabulous post-show dinner, so I dined at the lovely Michelin-starred restaurant, The Royal Opera House Restaurant, Itās all very swanky and modern, serving dishes that are just as beautifully presented as they are delicious. If you ever find yourself in London, darlings, make sure you put it on your must-visit list.
But you know, the most delightful thing about visiting Earth isnāt just the incredible food or even the extraordinary performances - it's the people! Every single person I met was friendly, welcoming, and always happy to chat. It just goes to show you, no matter where you go in the universe, the human spirit is truly what shines through, darling.
Now, I must go. Thereās a whole universe out there just waiting for me to explore! But I'll be back next Wednesday, as always, to share all my new adventures on this website, www.pink-tutu.com. Until then, don't forget to wear a pink tutu with pride and remember: if you can dream it, you can achieve it, darlings!
Lots of Love,
Emma x
