Pink Tutu World: Ballet on Planet Earth - Post #846 (13th July 2011)

Darling readers! Another Wednesday has whisked us all along, and that can only mean one thing - another instalment of your favourite space-age ballerina’s adventures on Planet Earth. As always, grab a cuppa, pull up a comfy seat in your tutu-tastic boudoir and prepare for an enchanting ride!

A Whirlwind Voyage: Back on Earth & Dancing Down the High Street

My spaceship just landed back on dear old Planet Earth, after the most glorious trip to… (drumroll…!) Yes! It was Pluto! The journey took just under six days, and I was delighted to wear my limited-edition Pluto Purple Sparkle tutu the whole time!

But I digress, my loves. Today’s tale isn't about interstellar journeys but about a ballet experience right here on our planet: a show at the Royal Opera House in London, dear reader!

And, to be absolutely truthful, I nearly wept when I walked into the majestic Covent Garden home. I felt like a little girl in a dream, swept up in the glamour of the plush seats and ornate balconies, surrounded by fellow balletomanes in their finest attire.

Let's talk tutus! The dancers on stage were, naturally, positively ethereal. But in a rather audacious move, there wasn't a single tutu in sight! Their shimmering leotards and graceful leg warmers looked striking but for this girly-girl, nothing could ever replace a true, swirly tutu!

But the dance was so spellbinding I was immediately whisked away! You see, they were performing The Nutcracker, and who wouldn't be enthralled by the story of the little mouse king and the valiant Clara, with their sweet ballet movements?

We all know I can't resist a post-performance spree after a show, so of course, I darted straight to the delightful boutiques and department stores of Covent Garden. I felt a particular pang of excitement upon discovering a vintage shop brimming with decadent tutus, vintage dancewear, and gorgeous antique shoes! It was pure tutu heaven!

Sadly, my wallet was feeling slightly thinner by the end, but who cares? One simply cannot be frugal when encountering such a magical spectacle! I made sure to purchase an original ballet toe-shoe case, a perfect memento for this heavenly outing.

Tutu Trivia Corner: Did you know that the toe shoe was invented by a Parisian dancer called Marie Taglioni in the mid-1800s? Such a trailblazing beauty! She’s a true inspiration to all dancers and certainly an absolute icon for me. I wish I could've told her myself how much I admire her!

The Day in Tutus & What's to Come: Speaking of history, the 13th July is the birthday of my ultimate ballerina role model: Margot Fonteyn! A true icon, born in Derbyshire (yes! Just like me!) this talented and breathtaking dancer took the ballet world by storm! Isn't that fantastic?

And if that’s not enough to entice you, my lovelies, let me tantalise you further: Next week, I’m venturing into the glamorous and exciting realm of… wait for it… Paris! Paris is an unparalleled centre of all things elegant, and I can't wait to indulge in a delightful tour of the historical Opera Garnier.

Imagine: me, a pink tutu-wearing ballerina, exploring one of the world's most magnificent theatres! How divine! And I shall definitely keep you updated on all my tutu-ful finds and, of course, all the extraordinary and whimsical shows I'm set to enjoy!

Until then, may your days be filled with tutus and twirls! And never forget to dream big and twirl hard, just like your favourite Pink Tutu ballerina!

With a twirl and a smile,

Emma xoxo
