Hello darlings! š It's your favourite pink tutu-clad blogger Emma, back with a post bursting with colour, sparkle, and the sweetest tale of interstellar adventure! I've just hopped off my spaceship (the "Twirl-A-Round") after a whirlwind journey through the Milky Way, landing back on dear old Planet Earth. Let's face it, after all that time zipping between galaxies, nothing beats the comfort of your own planet, right?
Speaking of which, how utterly divine is it that today is Leap Day? A day that's just like any other but with the added excitement of an extra twenty-four hours. What a perfect opportunity to do everything youāve always wanted! So, letās make this extra day extra special by embracing everything fabulous! Weāll kick things off with a trip down memory lane to my very own space odyssey - just in time for a very special ballet performance. Are you ready for this, lovelies? š©°š
Oh, my goodness, where do I even begin? Well, I've always had a passion for exploring the universe, even more so than your average ballerina (sorry, Tchaikovsky! š). You see, my spaceship, the "Twirl-A-Round", isn't just any ordinary vessel; it's my pride and joy. I love all its curves, it's custom-designed with sparkly LED lighting that shifts to my favorite colour - pink of course - and you know it has a massive storage area for all my fabulous tutus! I can practically feel my fabulous "Pink Diamond" tutu twirling inside - sheās ready for anything! š
As many of you know, I've been funding these cosmic ballet explorations with my planet Earth performances! It's the best job in the universe - dancing, bringing joy, and raising the funds for my interstellar journeys. Oh, and did I mention my costumes are absolutely breathtaking? I'm talking sparkle, ruffles, and more pink than you can possibly imagine! It's all about the joy of fashion, darling, and thereās no place on Earth that does fashion better than our very own London. London, for those who don't know (and if you haven't been there, then you MUST go!), is bursting with amazing theaters and theaters dedicated to some of the worldās most fabulous ballet dancers - I'm just dying to share a glass of prosecco with Darcey Bussell, I just adore her. You wouldnāt believe the amazing shows Iāve been to. So pink-tastic, and letās just say I've picked up a few fabulous outfits in Covent Garden!
This weekās Pink Tutu journey took me all the way to the Orion Nebula! I mean, whatās more enchanting than swirling galaxies in a pink tutu? And while I was exploring its glorious cloud of stardust and stellar nurseries, I discovered something utterly fantasticā¦an entire species of ballerinas on a nearby, unknown planet called 'Tutus-in-the-Stars.' Oh, darling, they were utterly charming - imagine it! These ballerina beings are utterly divine in shimmering white tutus (not pink sadly, I tried!), Theyāre so fabulous that even the local starlight shimmers even more brightly because of their elegance! I had the pleasure of sharing a cup of Cosmic Star-Dust (they apparently drink something different to tea, darling) with them and you wouldn't believe their stories of ballet performances that are more dazzling than any starlight. We chatted and laughed and discussed the fascinating history of tutus!
You might not think that ballet tutus have an exciting history but there are more interesting facts about tutus than you can possibly imagine! Take a little journey with me: Do you know how the tutu actually came about? Originally, you know, dancers wore full, calf-length skirts. I mean, could you imagine? A tutu that reaches your calves? Absolutely shocking. It took until the mid-19th century and the brilliant Italian ballerina Carlotta Grisi - don't you just adore those Italian names, darling!* She danced *La Sylphide with her feet (of course, my lovely! It is ballet after all) visible, as this helped make the dancing more visible! She revolutionized fashion.
In the mid-1800s, tutu designers started experimenting with different styles like the āromantische tutu.ā These designs, my dear, featured long, layered tutus with plenty of volume (so you can imagine just how much fabulous Iām referring to) that allowed the dancers to move with graceful elegance. Later, when we really got into tutus and ballet was getting its big start, there was the tutu Ć la 'Paganini', (which my darling readers can you guess which year this fabulous new type of tutu hit the dancefloor? Iāll let you ponder, because I canāt spoil it! š it just needs a good blog post all to itself). They gave a shorter tutu look, just slightly longer than a mini-skirt and that really changed the game of ballet design. Can you imagine trying to leap or twirl with a skirt to your ankles? It would never do. And speaking of twirlingā¦. have you heard of the āTutu of Destinyā?
Do I have your attention now darling? Of course, you do! š
That's it, darlings! I need to go, I have a ballet practice coming up right this minute! The āTutu of Destiny' and all of its glory is just waiting for its grand entrance and thatās why you have to join me here next week. In fact, thereās a whole blog post to make from this one amazing object⦠and I might just dare tell you who is going to be wearing it in a weekās time! š
Stay sparkly, darlings! š
Love,
Emma š©°
P.S. Did you know that ballet history can also be found on planet Earth on this very date, the 29th February, 2012? In London's West End, a beautiful dance film starring two of the most charming ballet dancers of the century, Edward Watson and Tamara Rojo, called āDangerous Liaisonsā, a production based on the novel by Pierre Choderlos de Laclos, was in it's 8th week! š šš Itās worth getting out your sparkly best for your date. And if you know me, it will have been in pink of course, darling, a bright, fuchsia, sparkly pink dress. The perfect touch!
P.P.S. Please donāt forget that we are all about spreading joy through the world by encouraging everyone to wear a pink tutu⦠whether itās space or planet Earth. Tell all of your friends about my pink tutu obsession! Join me right here in my pink tutu world on Wednesdays, and letās spread the fun with love, joy, and all the pink tutus we can muster!
