Hello my darling tutu-lovers! It's Emma here, back from another cosmic ballet adventure. This week I'm back on Planet Earth, after a whirlwind tour of the Andromeda Galaxy. Did you know they have some of the most exquisite interstellar ballet shows in the entire cosmos? Seriously, their choreographies are out of this world!
Before we dive into the sparkly details, a little update from my world: Today is Wednesday, June 6th, 2012, which means, of course, that it's ballet day! I started my morning with a lovely ballet class at the Derbyshire Dance Academy back in my home county. The good news is, even after my interstellar adventures, my pirouettes still haven't gone out of whack. The bad news is that I am absolutely knackered, and I haven't even left the planet yet!
Speaking of interstellar escapades, oh my sweet ballet babes, let me tell you, Andromeda was just divine! I landed on a planet called Serendipia - a name fit for a tutu-lover like myself, don't you think? Their fashion is out of this world. The Serendipians are quite taken with metallic textures and vibrant hues, and honestly, their tutus are simply phenomenal!
The local dance academy, "Celestial Soles", boasts a breathtaking fusion of futuristic choreography and classical ballet technique. We’re talking, of course, en pointe work with literally light-speed jumps. They actually perform their shows amongst nebulae. Can you imagine the stunning visual spectacle? I'm talking celestial-grade shimmer and glitter - truly magical!
Now, let me tell you about this particular intergalactic tour: I financed this entire adventure with my recent ballet performance at the Royal Albert Hall back in London. We were selling out shows, my dears! The energy from the crowd was palpable. My favourite number? Why, "Tutus of Tomorrow" of course! It's an exciting number that explores the future of ballet fashion in the universe, with some truly revolutionary costume design that I can't wait to show you when I return.
Let me take you back to the fashion! I was especially fond of one particular outfit I wore for a performance on Serendipia. I bought this shimmering, galactic-themed pink tutu at the most exclusive fashion boutique on the planet (I think they have one on every planet!). The tutu was embroidered with nebulae in shimmering silver threads. You wouldn't believe it, it even had its own custom-designed constellation to fit my zodiac sign! Talk about making an entrance, darling! I got showered with compliments, including a truly delightful one from a resident of Andromeda Galaxy named "Sparkles". He’d clearly got good taste - very good taste.
I've been meaning to write about tutu fashion on Planet Earth, haven't I? While I adore all those interstellar looks, my love for the traditional tutus here on Earth is quite unyielding. I recently discovered a vintage tutu shop in the heart of Notting Hill - you'll have to imagine a charming little pink boutique tucked away behind a floral awning.
The shop, called "Swans Down" was pure tutu heaven! They had these amazing tutus, just straight from a bygone era. Imagine tutus in exquisite ivory silk, vintage tulle with delicate hand-painted flowers and even a shimmering lavender tutu with intricate, silver detailing. The shopkeeper, a charming woman with the name Violet (quite fitting, don't you think?) told me that she’d curated this incredible collection over years, carefully restoring vintage tutus and turning them into pieces of art. We chatted about the evolution of the tutu from the 18th century to present day - from the early, more basic styles to the intricately layered and meticulously constructed masterpieces we see in ballets today. It was simply fascinating!
I managed to purchase a vintage pink satin tutu that dates back to the 1950s! I'll share a photo on my blog later, because, honestly, it's divine. It is just such a lovely shade of pink. The details are exquisite – little bows of pink satin, a tiny crown of hand-sewn pearls. Honestly, it could have stepped right out of a ballet from Giselle - my all-time favourite! It just goes to show that while interstellar fashion is phenomenal, Planet Earth still holds so many delightful treasures in the realm of tutus.
Speaking of the Giselle, remember the ballerina Marie Taglioni who created this stunning role? Now that was a revolutionary ballerina, my dears! And let’s not forget the other ballet greats who contributed so much to the art of dance, including Carlotta Grisi! What would the ballet world be without those lovely ladies? Ballet really wouldn't be the same! I love reading about these legendary dancers and the historical significance of tutus. I feel connected to these strong, powerful women and I find their passion and creativity so inspiring.
That's all for today, darlings! It's been a joy revisiting Planet Earth, my hometown, my pink tutu haven. But don’t worry, it won’t be long before I'm off to new galactic adventures, discovering the next stunning tutu fashion trend. And who knows, I might even encounter some stellar ballet performances on my travels! Until next time, keep twirling, keep dancing, keep embracing your inner pink tutu warrior!
Always yours,
Emma www.pink-tutu.com
