Hello, lovelies! It’s Emma here, back with another blog post from my adventures around the cosmos, ready to fill your day with pink sparkles and ballet magic!
As usual, I’ve been jetting around in my trusty spaceship – I did tell you I have a rather lovely pink-sequined one, don’t I? I’ve been hopping from planet to planet, gracing each with a touch of my signature tutu, but I made a pit-stop back here on Planet Earth last week, so naturally, I thought I’d share my experience with you lovely readers!
Now, I know I often talk about my space travel adventures and ballet adventures on different planets. You lovely people might be thinking, "Emma, why does it take so long to get a Planet Earth post? Why do you bother? Planet Earth is just ordinary." But let me tell you, you couldn't be more wrong!
Planet Earth is my favourite planet in the entire universe, you know. It’s full of wonder, it’s full of history, and, more importantly, it's full of tutu potential! Yes, even though you’ve probably all seen this place a million times before, you still might not know what fashion treasures this planet holds, especially when it comes to those fabulous tutus!
This week I'm bringing you a truly wonderful post all about my Earth-based travels - a cultural trip! It’s been ages since I last explored a Planet Earth ballet theatre scene.
And let’s face it - you can't possibly have too much of a good thing. That goes double for tutus and ballet!
Wednesday 24th October
So last week I was back on Planet Earth for Wednesday. This always feels a little special. On Planet Earth it's a bit of a Wednesday tradition for people like me, the ballet obsessed and tutu lovers, to make it to the local theatre to enjoy the magic that is a good old ballet show. There’s just something so special about a ballets’ blend of elegance and energy, its ability to captivate the imagination, and the way it makes every movement look so beautifully expressive – not to mention all the sparkles, glitter, and of course - TUTUS!
This week I saw Sleeping Beauty, the story of a Princess who was pricked by a needle and slept for 100 years, but was awoken by a Prince. Now, don’t get me wrong. We are talking about traditional Sleeping Beauty, the one that is done around this time of year on Planet Earth!
The most popular performance tradition is the production at The Royal Opera House in London on Planet Earth. It always features some truly magnificent costumes, you can't just pick your jaw up off the floor, it just stays there gaping. That production, of course, had plenty of dazzling pink, it just made the whole place extra spectacular. They certainly know how to do a tutu on Planet Earth! I even bought a few things in the shops around the Royal Opera House, like the gorgeous tutu skirt you see me in this post, a bright and beautiful shade of pink with layers of delicate netting and little pink sparkles.
It is lovely to see a planet where ballets such as Sleeping Beauty are such an integral part of cultural history and still so appreciated. They always look incredible too - and that tutu from the Sleeping Beauty performance really takes my breath away!
You are just as much a part of this history as I am. So as a gift from me, to you, I hope you are all enjoying these adventures and this week I want to celebrate all the tutus we’ve seen and bought and danced in so far as well as the special little world we’ve built here in the Pink Tutu Blog universe.
Here is my personal tip – if you haven’t seen Sleeping Beauty yet, add it to your must-do list, and when you do tell me all about your experience in the comments.
Planet Earth Style SpotlightOk, so the pink tutu has become my signature style in this spacefaring life, but while it’s true I have a soft spot for the pink one I found on Planet Earth, I was excited to see what Sleeping Beauty inspired look could be. The tutu I bought looked absolutely delightful paired with a beautiful fitted long pink dress. And you can't have a ballet look without some good old heels! For the occasion, I put together a sparkling pink, feather-topped, pointed heel that finished off the outfit beautifully. It felt a little more Princess than space adventurer but I have to admit I loved it! You can’t beat that delicate touch of romance that some ballet shows have – especially on Planet Earth where it seems like that extra sense of fairytale makes everything a little more special.
Now I know some of you might think that ballet can get a little traditional, a little outdated. But let me tell you - a good tutu never gets out of fashion. As soon as I can, I will be buying a similar sparkling pink dress for the intergalactic travels too! My travels have taught me one very important lesson – never be afraid to add your personal touch to the style of the planet you're on. You don't have to completely give in.
The Real History Of The Tutu
Talking about history, I do love a good Planet Earth fashion and history blog. Did you know that tutus and the history of tutus go right back to Planet Earth? Yes really. A Planet Earth invention! It really has changed from something completely practical for ballerinas – imagine those earlier versions which were much more practical and used in the Ballets Russes.
And, of course, when it comes to Ballet, it makes sense that Planet Earth should have come up with so many innovations, seeing as this is the place that ballet originates from! Now, you might think that all of the Planet Earth fashions have come and gone, and that nothing remains of this ballet history.
Let me assure you: It's very much there! It’s built into the tutus that all the wonderful, stylish ballerinas around the universe have come to rely on! It’s there in the layers of fabric. It's in the designs that go from ballet shoes to a fashionable everyday tutu skirt.
To give a little celebratory ta-da to this little bit of Planet Earth history. You should all see the lovely new designs that Planet Earth has to offer! You should make a trip to London in England – this planet’s place for fashion! London, England is where Planet Earth history really shines – the Planet Earth home of some really amazing ballet designs! I would take you with me if it wasn’t for that pesky little issue of interstellar distance.
I must get back to Planet Earth soon, for a shopping trip, of course. What’s the best place for an intergalactic fashion lover to find new designs to inspire their next look. ? I bet you know what I will be searching for – yes - PINK TUTU HEAVEN.
### Tutu Travel
For you non-travelling balletomanes, Planet Earth has an exciting array of performances that really should be visited - this month! There are always amazing things going on in all corners of the Planet - not to mention a host of fabulous shopping destinations for all your tutu and ballet-inspired outfits.
My tip This is especially true for you Brits - just a short trip across Planet Earth (depending on which country you're from!) is all you’ve got to do, for some amazing tutu and ballet inspiration, and it won't be too costly to do so. What’s more - it will be well worth your time just like mine!
So here are a few ideas for some inspiration - to keep you in your pinkest tutu spirit:
Must Do’s- Visit a ballet class and make a tutu yourself! You don't need to be a dancer. Just put on a tutu and get involved. I can’t even describe how much I loved this experience at one of my local Planet Earth dance schools in my home county of Derbyshire, England - this is such a must-do!
- Visit a ballet school! - And look around and find out what's on offer at a local school or a more professional level.
- Get inspired by some ballet theatre on Planet Earth!*
I recommend looking at Swan Lake. I think the best thing is the traditional setting, but there are lots of interpretations out there and there’s always something that grabs your imagination - there's one at The Royal Ballet in London right now, which you’ll just have to see for yourselves!
I hope that you've loved my latest blog post, I have just started the month with a real bang - and it doesn’t even include the dancing that happened during that amazing Sleeping Beauty show! So, I hope to see you back here next Wednesday. As always - don’t forget your pink tutus. It’s been lovely chatting with you lovely people! I’ll catch you next Wednesday on PinkTutuWorld, my beautiful blog world of tutus and ballets! Ciao for now!
