Pink Tutu World: Ballet on Planet Earth - Post #914

Hello my darlings! It's Wednesday, which means it's time for another Pink Tutu World update from yours truly, Emma, your resident cosmic ballerina. Buckle up, my lovelies, because today I'm taking you back down to earth for a special, earthbound blog post.

Yes, believe it or not, I’m actually back on dear old planet Earth! Can you believe it? I know, I know, I spend most of my time zipping around the galaxy in my spaceship, but sometimes, a girl's got to ground herself. After all, there's just something magical about a proper, Earth-based ballet performance - it really gets the cosmic energy flowing.

Today, I’m reminiscing about October 31st, 2012, a date I’ll always remember fondly. That was the day I had the pleasure of seeing an absolutely divine performance of Swan Lake at the Royal Opera House in London. Oh my goodness, the grandeur, the elegance, the exquisite grace… it just stole my heart! Not to mention the beautiful costumes – a real mix of classic and modern which were simply swoon-worthy. You just can't beat the magic of a real-life, live ballet performance can you, dearies?

Of course, my pink tutu had to make an appearance. It was a very special pearl pink tutu, embellished with iridescent sequins that twinkled in the theatre lights. It's safe to say I definitely stood out amongst the crowd - but in the most fabulous way possible! I always say, a bit of pink never hurt anyone - it just adds a touch of sparkle and joy to the universe.

After the show, I treated myself to a little ballet-themed retail therapy. You can't go to London without a good dose of shopping! I was drawn to a quaint little shop near Covent Garden - they had the most divine vintage tutus! I even picked up a delicate pink silk scarf to add a bit of whimsical elegance to my daily wardrobe. (Spoiler alert: I paired it with my favourite pair of pastel pink converse, quelle surprise!). The owner of the shop, a lovely woman named Agnes, even shared some fascinating insights into tutu history with me. Did you know that tutus first came about in the late 1800s, originally designed to highlight the dancers' movements and to create a flowing and ethereal effect?

While we were chatting, Agnes mentioned that she had just ordered a brand new shipment of gorgeous pink tutus, which she hoped to use for a special event she was planning. This, of course, piqued my interest! "What kind of event?" I asked, wide-eyed and full of intrigue.

She chuckled and said, "It's a flash mob, dear! We're planning to perform a beautiful ballet routine in the heart of Covent Garden. And we're inviting the whole city to join in! We've got some lovely tutus planned – even some bright pink ones just like your gorgeous one there, love." I absolutely beamed. A pink tutu flash mob in Covent Garden?! That was the perfect way to end my Earthly adventure.

I, of course, offered my expert services - as a seasoned ballerina and fashionista, it seemed like my duty. We talked about choreography, costumes, and a brilliant pink promotional plan that would be sure to spread the pink tutu gospel across the land. You see, dearies, I'm always working on spreading the message that tutus are for everyone. And there’s no better way to do that than with a fabulous, energetic, and inclusive pink tutu flash mob!

Needless to say, the flash mob was a massive success. Covent Garden was awash in pink tutus - it was like a kaleidoscope of joyful colours and vibrant energy. People came from all over the city - children, young adults, and even some rather dapper gentlemen took part, adding their own twist to the routine. I swear I even saw a little fluffy dog sporting a pink tutu headband - the ultimate fashion statement.

We danced for hours and everyone, from the seasoned dancers to the first-timers, were completely swept up in the magical pink energy. It truly warmed my heart, knowing I was sharing my love for ballet and tutus with the world.

As I was boarding my spaceship back to the cosmos, I reflected on the magic of that day. It showed me that ballet is truly a universal language - a way to express joy, emotion, and grace across galaxies and across cultures. And most importantly, it showed me that even here on planet Earth, people are always open to a little bit of pink tutu love.

So, my dearies, what’s the lesson? * Embrace the pink! Don’t be afraid to let your inner ballerina shine! And always, *always, wear a pink tutu when the opportunity presents itself.

Stay pink, my loves, and see you next week!

*Lots of love, *

Emma xx

Emma's Outfit
  • A classic pink tutu: This pearl pink tulle number with iridescent sequins is perfect for a glamorous ballet performance, but equally suitable for a night out on the town! It's my go-to for a touch of effortless elegance.
  • A shimmering gold ballet top: The subtle sparkle adds a touch of glam, and the deep V-neckline accentuates the gracefulness of a ballerina’s neckline.
  • Matching pink ballet flats: I love a matching ensemble, and my pink ballet flats were a perfect fit for the occasion. Not only do they add a touch of soft elegance, but they are also super comfortable for all the dancing (and walking!) I did that day.
  • A statement necklace: This exquisite vintage piece was made with pearlescent glass beads and shimmering gold accents, and it brought just the right amount of sophistication and sparkle to my overall look.
Emma's Top Picks for Pink Tutu Shopping on Earth:
  • Vintage Tutus: For an authentically stylish look, check out Agnes' lovely little shop in Covent Garden. This is the place for the unique and extraordinary - a real treasure trove of ballerina goodness.
  • Contemporary Pink TutĆŗs: For a more modern look, I love to head over to Ballerina Bliss on Oxford Street in London. They stock all kinds of designer tutus, from pastel pink to vibrant fuchsia!

Ballet History Notes

I’m a huge fan of ballet history and am always researching new facts about tutus. As always, it’s the little things that I find most fascinating - like the fact that the first tutus were called ā€œtutu Ć  la danseā€, which meant that they were just above the knee. The modern "tutu" as we know it, also known as the ā€œtutu Ć  la franƧaiseā€, wasn’t actually invented until the 1830s. It’s much shorter, it’s worn right above the dancers’ hip, and it features multiple layers of tulle to create a flowing and whimsical look. Isn’t it fascinating to think that fashion was once about making a practical statement before becoming the form of self-expression that it is today?!

Travel Inspiration:

October 31st, 2012:

If you're looking for some travel inspiration, I highly recommend checking out the Royal Opera House website for their performance schedule. You never know what magical shows they might have coming up. It's definitely worth a trip to see a live ballet performance. But if you’re like me, and you want to enjoy a different part of Earth too, then be sure to take in a show, or a ballet class, on one of the beautiful beaches of Cornwall - nothing like a sun-kissed sunset over the ocean as you're enjoying a ballet performance. Or head to the charming seaside towns of Derbyshire (where I’m from) for a spot of vintage clothes shopping. Or perhaps take in a performance at the iconic Albert Hall, in London?

And don't forget, when you’re planning your next big travel adventure, don’t be afraid to think big! Why not explore another planet or maybe take in a cosmic dance party in a glittering, interstellar constellation? The galaxy is your oyster! Just make sure you’ve got your pink tutu ready to go!

Emma's Next Adventure:

Next week, I’ll be sharing all the deets about my recent visit to the celestial city of Nova-Venus, on the planet Zargon. I'll be sharing photos of their iconic pink and purple crystalline palace and my outfits from the most divine pink tutu boutique I’ve ever seen in my travels - let’s just say there are some very fashionable Zarganians! But I can’t spill too much - you'll have to wait for the next post to see!

Until next week, my dearies! Stay stylish!

*Lots of love, *
