Pink Tutu World: Ballet on Planet Earth, Post #935

27th March 2013

Hello darlings! Welcome back to Pink Tutu World, your weekly dose of tutus, glitter, and cosmic ballet adventures. This week, we're still beaming from the incredible experience of Ballet on Planet Earth, which I told you about last week, but there’s always so much to see and do here.

Remember those fantastic interstellar travels? I think it’s safe to say that you are ALL caught up now on what an intergalactic treat seeing ‘La Sylphide’ on the planet Cygnus was! We got to have a quick natter about those magical tutus too!

Now let’s dive back into a whirl of fashion and ballet that will have you twirling your way to Wednesday with glee. And trust me, darlings, this week’s blog is going to be a complete blast! We’re going to be uncovering some stellar secrets and a bit of pink tutu history to boot, that will have your head spinning faster than a pirouette!

So grab your pinkest feather boas and put your favourite sparkly tights on - it’s time for a Pink Tutu World adventure!

Back on Planet Earth, Back to My Roots

As I mentioned, we landed back here in my beloved Derbyshire earlier this week, and there’s nothing quite like home, right?

Now, being the fabulous Pink Tutu World queen that I am, I had to get straight out of my interstellar travelling gear and into something much more fabulous. Luckily, this is Derbyshire after all! So let me tell you, it was the quickest hop to the shopping mall! That’s where you’ll find all the latest pinkest looks on this planet.

A great shopping trip can sometimes be like a ballet – a constant flow of energy, graceful strides around the shop, and plenty of flair in the changing rooms. And just like when we saw ‘La Sylphide’ on Cygnus, sometimes it's important to get into a fabulous costume!

And this week’s find is this absolutely fabulous pale pink feather boa - I couldn't resist it. I simply HAVE to wear it on a Wednesday at my favourite tea shop – what are friends for after all, except to comment on my absolutely dazzling fashion choices?

* Ballet on Planet Earth - Back at the Studio!*

After a wonderful dose of fashion shopping, there’s nothing better than getting my toes pointed and into those classic tutus. The feeling of those delicate and light fabrics are as gorgeous on planet Earth as they are out amongst the stars. It’s something I've missed desperately. The energy of the dance floor is as incredible as seeing a stellar show. I find it exhilarating. We can learn a lot about this life by studying ballet! After all, we're dancing together, creating a beautiful performance of our lives! And like I've mentioned before, the feeling of lightness in our movements is always a key reminder that we are in touch with the joy and freedom of movement!

* A History of Ballet, a History of the Tutu… *

I recently spent some time exploring ballet history in the beautiful National Ballet Archive in London! It's like stepping into another dimension – a whirlwind of tulle, ribbons, and a little peek behind the curtain into the fascinating evolution of ballet.

It's easy to think that tutus have been with us from the very beginning, like a ballerina's destiny, but actually, this iconic silhouette wasn't so obvious! We started off with something much more practical - like what they wear today in the “Swan Lake” dances, right? And then, somewhere down the line, tutus transformed from the practical to the spectacular! But isn’t it the same story with every bit of fabulous attire, all around the universe!

My favourite period was during the Romantic era – with its long flowing tulle and romantic ballet narratives. The tutus back then were really designed for soaring and twirling, and oh, the extravagance! So if you're feeling inspired for a dance in a tulle-filled universe, there's nothing better than looking at these styles and then of course you can also visit one of my favourite blogs that’s devoted to the history of the ballet and its wonderful wardrobe – the amazing blog ‘Ballet And Beyond' – I love this site and can lose myself in its contents. You should check it out!

Coming Soon!

Well, it's getting late and it’s time to say goodbye for this week! But hold on to your top hats – next Wednesday, we're diving deep into the fascinating world of 'ballet and opera'! The beauty, the passion! Think graceful ballet dancing with incredible opera music in the background, it's just too beautiful. And I promise to tell you all about some great events in my own Derbyshire town!

Don't forget, the universe is waiting to be seen in a pink tutu – join me in spreading the joy of pink tutu love all over planet earth! You can reach me on PinkTutu.com – we’ll keep spreading those amazing pink vibes! Until then, be brave, be brilliant, and have a wonderfully sparkly week, my dear readers!
