Dearest fellow tutu-wearers! 🩰✨
It's Wednesday again, which means it's time for another dazzling post from your favourite cosmic ballerina!
Today, I'm bursting with excitement to share all the wonderful adventures I've had on Planet Earth - oh, and a little bit about my own personal journey of fabulousity! You see, after gallivanting across the galaxies in my trusty spaceship (who knew the interstellar highways could be so jam-packed with space cruisers?), I landed back here in Derbyshire just in time to catch the hottest event in ballet!
It's 2013-05-29, the very date of...
The Royal Ballet’s Swan Lake! 🦢
My love affair with the Swan Lake is as legendary as the swan’s plumage! This ballet is everything to me, from its poignant storytelling to the dramatic choreography. Tchaikovsky’s music is just sublime; it makes my heart soar higher than a double pirouette!
Of course, I couldn't miss this particular performance – it’s the Royal Ballet on Planet Earth, you see! You can't beat the classical elegance and perfection of a company that's been delighting audiences for over a century. It’s a history and tradition I deeply adore.
But before I get all gushy over swan feathers and graceful dancers (because oh my, you know I could!), let me share a little something about my recent tutu adventures.
You see, dear reader, a girl’s gotta travel – and even a space-faring ballerina like myself needs a bit of fashion inspiration, right?
Just imagine my delight at stumbling across Planet Earth's version of the 'Fashion Week'! I literally gasped! Rows upon rows of stores dedicated solely to the artistry of clothing! It was an absolute paradise for a girl like me who thrives on style, colour, and texture.
I was immediately drawn to the exquisite designs of Planet Earth's designers - from the elegant cuts of British designers to the vibrant textures of Japanese creations. I fell head-over-heels in love with the vibrant silk gowns with exquisite detail - and yes, I did have to get my hands on a few tutus. They are a girl’s weakness!
But I didn't just shop - I also got my ballet groove on!
That's right! I found myself at The Royal Ballet School! The energy and passion of these young dancers absolutely astounded me. These students have an intense love for the art form. They were practicing in a beautifully ornate dance studio – the sheer precision and talent were unbelievable!
I must confess I shed a few happy tears. I remembered how nervous I was starting my own ballet career in my little Derbyshire town. Back then, a dream of exploring space and visiting new worlds was but a whispered fantasy. But with determination and passion, well, look at me now, conquering galaxies in a pink tutu, just like I always wanted!
I did have a chance to watch the little ballerinas at the end of their practice. You could feel the magic in the air. I am determined to get all those lovely little ballerinas wearing a pink tutu someday, I truly believe it is the answer to everything!
Anyway, let's talk a little bit about this fabulous trip to London – oh, sorry, London is the capital city of Planet Earth for those who don't know, just like Paris on Planet Venus! 🪐
I was swept off my feet with London’s historical charm and vibrant energy. This bustling city of culture and commerce was an intoxicating mixture of heritage and progress – it has everything!
You must see Buckingham Palace in the heart of this bustling capital – it was a truly splendid palace - imagine all the beautiful parties and ballrooms they must have had inside over the years! I bet Queen Elizabeth loves wearing tutus - in fact, it’s one of my most beloved royal stories. Imagine the fun she'd have dancing all those royal waltzes in a fluffy pink tutu – the absolute dream!
(To be fair, you’d probably be too scared to look her in the eye, never mind trying to snag a waltz… )
Speaking of Buckingham Palace, London’s iconic red double-decker buses also made quite the impression on me - their vintage appeal made them a charming reminder of the era of gracious elegance they belong to. I am really very smitten with vintage and old world glamour - so London certainly ticked that box for me.
There were so many fantastic things to see and do in London, from wandering the ancient alleyways of the city to shopping till I dropped – oh yes, I love to shop!
Of course, I couldn't resist popping in to Harrods, a department store of breathtaking magnificence. This glamorous palace of retail was every shopaholic's heaven! I discovered the most fabulous array of everything, from exquisite designer clothes and shoes to delicious chocolates – swoon! This store really understands the feminine soul. They had enough sparkly jewels to last a lifetime and tutus – I found a tutu there! It was an elegant pink tutu that shimmered with crystal rhinestones! The most wonderful colour and I just had to get it!
There are so many memories to cherish about my trip, but if I had to choose one highlight - drumroll please - it would definitely have to be the ballet.
The performance at the Royal Opera House was absolutely spectacular. From the dramatic set to the talented dancers’ athleticism, every minute of it was enchanting. There’s something incredibly powerful about a live performance - it's raw emotion translated through the graceful movements of these talented performers.
That prima ballerina, she was incredible! Such grace and power and a sense of dedication. The energy radiated from her movements. I loved how her entire persona transformed the stage - as Odette, the swan, and the more assertive Odile. I really took a few lessons from this professional in the art of tutu-wearing and dramatic stage presence.
Of course, no visit to the ballet could be complete without a grand tour of the stage and its backstage . I absolutely loved peeking behind the scenes - from the colossal costumes and ornate props to the tireless stage hands working to ensure a smooth performance - it was truly inspirational.
The amount of meticulous attention to detail that went into producing the Swan Lake performance was truly fascinating! I even had a chance to talk with a renowned costume designer, and her passionate knowledge of every little seam and bead made it obvious that this is not a profession – this is true artistic passion.
You know I’m inspired! I must get into designing tutus for my fellow intergalactic ballet stars!
Now, before I finish for today, here’s a little something to contemplate…
A new season on Planet Earth is starting, and it's just a perfect time for some inspiration. The autumnal equinox marks the beginning of this gorgeous transition in the colours and feel of the planet.
But why just leave this lovely changing of the season to Planet Earth?
Why don’t we all embrace a new season on the planet of your heart? A season of personal growth and transformation?*
Let's reimagine ourselves. Let's celebrate the things that bring us joy!
What new experiences will you add to your tutu life? What new dance routines will you twirl to?
What colours are you going to make the universe fall in love with this season?
The choice is yours, and I know you’ll do magnificently!
Until next Wednesday,
Keep twirling
Emma
