Dearest Pink Tutu People,
Well, here I am again, back on Planet Earth after another whirlwind tour across the cosmos. It feels SO good to be home, though I must say I do miss the zipping around in my spaceship!
This week, I've been reflecting on my last intergalactic voyage. It was a particularly exciting one, focusing on the ballet of our beautiful home, Planet Earth. Did you know, earthlings? Ballet isn't just a thing on Earth – it's all over the universe! Imagine that – galaxies filled with ballerinas spinning and leaping!
My travels started in a charming little village called, (get this) Tutuvillage. I don’t think it could be more aptly named. As a tutu enthusiast, I felt right at home in this quaint little town on a planet I’d never visited before. It felt so very... earthy. Like, a little earthy, a little fairytale, a little tutuvillage-y (and did I mention I LOVE this word – Tutuvillage? Because it is EVERYTHING to me).
I even caught a really impressive show while I was there - “Tutuvillage and the Search for the Celestial Pink”. Let me tell you, the lead ballerina’s technique was superb. She could do a pirouette without even needing to move her legs. And the story! A truly epic tale of a young tutuvillager girl and her quest to find the perfect pink tutu for her interstellar debut. If you get the chance, it’s a must see! I just loved the music – such a beautiful and intricate story, it really resonated with me. I found myself quite tearful by the time the curtain came down, and so did the whole Tutuvillage! The audience rose to their feet in a huge standing ovation, with little children throwing tiny, pink roses from their tiny pink tutu-clad bodies! And of course, the lead ballerina curtsied and kissed her hand to the rapturous applause. A beautiful performance, darling!
Back on our Planet Earth, there’s always SO much to see. From Birmingham Royal Ballet's The Sleeping Beauty in Birmingham, England, to Cinderella in Derbyshire. My, it is a magical land to visit and take a trip through the local towns. I've spent my entire life there! But then I went to Romeo and Juliet at The Royal Opera House, a Nutcracker at The London Coliseum, a Giselle at The Bolshoi in Moscow… (how could I not, dear readers?), the Royal Ballet's Swan Lake in the heart of London, and an enchanting little production of Coppelia at a cute theater by the Seine, which just took my breath away, I had such a wonderful time visiting my favorite, vibrant metropolis in France! I just feel so grateful to live in such a dynamic and ever-changing time – there's ALWAYS something new to discover.
I had to bring a little piece of these magical places back with me, so, naturally, I bought everything. That new line of tutu-themed handbags I’d been eyeing at a shop on Tutuvillage? Mine, darling. My. Mine. A limited edition “Tutuvillager Troupe” necklace in pastel pink? Oh darling, mine. I needed them all. I just love tutus! What can I say, my pink-tutu-wearing self gets so excited about these things!
On the shopping front, there was SO much to tempt my wardrobe – and my wallet – in London's Knightsbridge, Oxford Street, the West End… It is such a joy to walk these streets, watching the world go by in this vibrant and electric city, whilst soaking in all that history! The energy was zinging! I picked up a few fabulous new tutus myself (did I ever mention, dear readers, my passion for ballet?) I love nothing more than a new, beautifully made tutu, all the fluffy fabrics and the tulle. Oh, it makes me so happy to twirl in these incredible masterpieces, whether I'm on the planet Earth or in deep space! I must tell you all about this extraordinary new store I stumbled upon on one of my expeditions, tucked away down a charming little street. It had all my favorite labels - Chloe, Chanel, Givenchy… You name it. They know how to make tutus that would put Cinderella herself to shame! I had to resist going on a massive buying spree!
But the real jewel in the crown of my planet Earth adventures was a little ballet workshop I stumbled upon near my little hometown in Derbyshire – how amazing are those local workshops for Ballet, dear readers? They’re just so incredibly inspiring to attend and get creative, whether it’s the first class ever or a regular practice. There were all ages there, from toddlers learning their first arabesques to teenagers taking their GCSE dance exams to adults learning the steps and movements, every level is represented, so even those like me, who are quite frankly past their prime at ballet can still twirl around on pointe and feel incredible. (Did you know, my dearest readers, my tutu's worn through in the exact same places from all those years of dance classes. Who’d have thought!)
This week's been all about catching up on things I couldn't do when I was space-travelling. Meeting old friends, checking out what the local ballet school had been up to (the best ballet school ever) – oh, and did I mention how fab those young ballerinas looked performing? – shopping at the new store that has just appeared on my local high street – which was really exciting, I must say!
Of course, everything must always be done with a hint of pink!
And that is the thing I try to tell everyone I meet - wear your own “pink tutu,” it's about owning who you are. For me, that's a tutu, all kinds of twirling, a passion for pink, and all things related to the wonderful world of ballet. If it makes me feel good about myself, and, even better if I can help to bring a little sunshine and sparkle into the world, then why not! My ultimate goal is to have every creature in the whole Universe wearing pink tutus, because pink tutus make the world a brighter place, dear readers.
Well, my dear readers, it's time for me to jet off to my next adventure! But until then, I’m back at www.pink-tutu.com every Wednesday. Keep an eye out for more updates on my journey and please do keep those questions and comments coming - you’re my favourite readers in the entire Universe!
And remember: always wear your pink tutu and spread the joy!
Your friend, Emma, the Pink Tutu Traveller
