Pink Tutu World: #975 - Ballet on Planet Earth (2014-01-01)

Hello my darling darlings! 🩰💖

It's Wednesday again and time for another instalment of Pink Tutu World. Buckle up buttercups because this week is spectacular!

As you know, I'm always flitting about the cosmos, travelling to new and exciting places, seeking out the best ballet performances and, of course, soaking up the culture. Well, this week I've landed back on Earth, back in my favourite home county of Derbyshire. This week, it was a real homecoming, back to where it all began - back to the very roots of my love affair with pink tutus and all things ballet.

The New Year began in such a magical way, starting with a trip to The Royal Opera House in London, a grand spectacle for any ballerina. It was, of course, nothing less than a dream come true to watch a breathtaking production of "Swan Lake." The grandeur of the setting, the swirling elegance of the ballerinas, the soaring music… simply perfection. You simply can't help but feel like you're part of a dream whilst watching these exquisite creatures in their billowing tulle. 💖

Now, every ballerinas' New Year must involve at least one tutu-buying extravaganza, right? Well, this week saw me whisked away to the chicest boutique in Covent Garden - a delightful haven filled with enough silk, tulle, and satin to make a ballet bunny's heart burst! Let me tell you, shopping for a tutu is an art in itself! It's a whole sensory experience: the feel of the soft fabric, the rustling of the tulle, the anticipation as you discover the perfect piece, and of course, the giddy feeling when you finally find "the one!" And the thing is, you never really know where the magic is going to happen! This time, my prize was a gorgeous vintage blush-pink tutu. 🤫 (Let's be honest, a new tutu always makes me feel a bit like a princess!) 💖

A Dash of Ballet History:

And while we're on the subject of history, there's no place quite like Derbyshire to feel that glorious, timeless connection with ballet. Just a stone's throw from where I was born, stands the incredible Chatsworth House - a grand old manor, steeped in history. Did you know that, back in 1773, the Duchess of Devonshire's daughter, Lady Georgiana Cavendish, actually starred in a private ballet performance right there at Chatsworth? Now that's what I call ballet history!

Now, my dears, you'll never believe this, but I managed to sneak into a rehearsal of the Nottingham Ballet - such a treat! You really get a behind-the-scenes peek at all the hard work that goes into putting a ballet performance together, all the dedication and artistry! I absolutely love watching them move in sync with the music, each pirouette a work of art! I was also treated to a charming afternoon with the delightful dancers, hearing their stories, their hopes, their dreams… it truly felt like a little piece of ballet magic right there.

Of course, no visit to Planet Earth is complete without indulging in a bit of good old-fashioned fashion fun! I was thrilled to discover a fantastic vintage store in Sheffield, filled with the most gorgeous pieces. From sequined jackets to eye-catching floral dresses - I found some real gems for my wardrobe. There’s nothing better than finding a real one-of-a-kind piece of vintage.

This week was full of breathtaking ballet and charming culture, and, of course, a bit of a shopping spree - all part of spreading the pink tutu love! Remember, my little dancers, you can create your own ballet magic anywhere you go! Let your creativity bloom, and let your tutu take you wherever your heart desires!

Until next Wednesday, darlings!

P.S. I’ll be sure to let you know what I’m wearing for my next interstellar journey! 🤫 💖

And Now for the Adventures of Pink Tutu World, Chapter Two!

Oh, what adventures we had this past week, my sweet tutu lovers! This time, our adventure began in the grand old city of York - an ancient wonder with a charm as magical as any ballet performance! 💖

York: A Fairy-tale Destination:

Just as soon as I landed, I found myself swept up in York's history. Stepping into the York Minster was a moment I won't ever forget! The stained-glass windows, bathed in the soft sunlight, are simply awe-inspiring, like stepping into a magical ballet scene itself! The whole place seemed to thrum with a mysterious, magical energy - a sensation that is almost indescribable!

Later, I had the honour of meeting a fascinating woman who knows her way around vintage treasures. This delightful creature is Ms. Betty Boop, the owner of York’s most famous vintage shop: "Boop’s Babble" – the most fabulous trove of vintage gowns, hats, and jewellery a girl could dream of! Betty told me stories of finding hidden treasures – gowns dating back to the Victorian era, beautifully embellished hats (perfect for a grand Victorian ball, n'est-ce pas?), and vintage costume jewellery that would make a queen jealous! And the prices, my darlings - well, let's just say they were a bit of a bargain, too. 😉 But you have to be quick, for this vintage boutique, with its array of exquisite outfits, is almost always bustling with other discerning fashionistas like myself.

Now, every adventure calls for a spot of good food! So I went in search of something delicious, and stumbled upon the "Yorkshire Pudding Emporium", a quaint eatery full of charming atmosphere and - you guessed it - the most scrumptious Yorkshire puddings this side of the Milky Way. 😉 (These aren't your typical "light" puddings, darlings! Think thick and creamy, filled with luscious goodness! They have become the must-try snack whenever I am in the land of Yorkshire!)

But the grand finale was a truly special performance at the Grand Opera House! Oh, the breathtaking energy and exquisite detail! The dancers of the English National Ballet graced the stage in “Cinderella”. My dear dears, let me tell you, it was absolutely sparkling with costumes worthy of a royal ball and a magic that swept me right off my feet. The story, as you know, is one of rags to riches, but here the theme was about transformation! The performance, and its messages about kindness and redemption, were a fitting start to a new year and, let me tell you, a most inspirational end to our adventure in York.

A London Ballet Escape:

Now, my sweet tutulovers, every true ballerina knows that a visit to the English capital would never be complete without an exciting dose of ballet culture! We are talking ballet history, ballet heritage - and London, dear reader, is its true home. So I spent some time exploring the grand architecture, admiring the elegant architecture and, of course, soaking up the vibrant atmosphere.

And of course, my darling dancers, the true treat had to be the Royal Ballet School. What an inspirational experience, a magical world for all those wishing to find the grace and fluidity of dance! As I walked those hallowed halls, I was reminded of all the dedication and artistry that makes the world of ballet so special! It is here where those special souls truly dedicate their life, not to a job, but to the magic of the ballet world.

Now, no visit to London would be complete without a little wander around its most fabulous and quintessentially London district. So, to the shops I went - of course! Harrods – what a glorious emporium! The display windows, with their fabulous gowns, were as beautiful as a royal wedding! Inside, everything is so meticulously presented; everything screams quality! Even just looking around made me feel like a million bucks!

Then it was onto Covent Garden! I absolutely love wandering around the quirky shops here - the vintage boutiques, the designer labels – it’s like stepping into a dream world of fashion! And while we're at it, how can I resist stopping at Liberty’s? (A grand and luxurious emporium on Regent Street. My heart is always captured by its eclectic array of styles from bohemian dresses and Liberty's classic patterned fabric!) But, oh my darlings, if you’re ever looking for something a little special, make your way to a special little vintage boutique tucked away down a side street – this little treasure trove was overflowing with one-off pieces, quirky styles, and designs that could easily inspire a fabulous ballerina like me to reinvent herself!

And, my dear sweet tutu lovers, I must say - every girl deserves a dose of the royal treatment now and then! After my foray into London, it was only right to finish our trip with a high tea at The Dorchester - an iconic experience for any true princess. Everything about it was opulent - from the glittering crystal glasses to the delicate sandwiches, perfectly curated for a ballerina! But perhaps the biggest delight was a magical view from The Dorchester’s terrace - a magnificent view of London, twinkling in the winter night sky! And how beautifully romantic - a sight I will never forget. 💖

Travel, Explore and Seek out The Pink Tutu World:

Every day is a chance for us to learn something new and to discover new places! This adventure was so packed with fabulous memories and moments of awe-inspiring grace. So many little stories, experiences and beautiful new outfits - it was an adventure in itself to find this fabulous new wardrobe, especially the beautiful white tutu from my travels around the United Kingdom.

Every trip for me is a chance to remind us all to explore the wonderful world around us. This planet we call home is a magnificent world, full of wonder. Whether you’re seeking a magical ballet, or perhaps some shopping inspiration - there's something for everyone! And, of course, don’t forget that even if you’re not on the stage, you can still radiate pink tutu love.

Until next Wednesday, sweet tutu lovers, I hope you are dancing through life! Remember to always dream in pink!
