Pink Tutu World: Ballet on Planet Earth - 8th January, 2014 (Post #976)

Oh darling, you wouldn't believe the whirlwind of a week I've had! It all started last Wednesday, you know, the day I normally blog to you lovely lot, and I was feeling a little blah. My tutus were feeling a bit limp, I hadn't had a proper ballet fix for weeks (it's practically criminal, I know!) and I'd even managed to stain my favourite pink cashmere cardigan (the horror!).

Well, let's just say I needed a change of scenery. So, I booked a flight to Planet Earth. That's right, dear readers! After my intergalactic travels of late, I thought I'd take a little break and rediscover the delights of this little green ball of beauty. And you know, it's even prettier than I remembered!

Firstly, you all must know how I adore Planet Earth's famous dancers. My last visit saw me totally swept away by the Royal Ballet's Swan Lake, and I almost managed to get an autograph from the glorious Alina Cojocaru. You all know how I feel about dancers; their elegance, the grace, the artistry… the tutus, of course! Ahem. But I can't tell you all about Alina - I want to save that for a special blog post!

Now, I wouldn't be me if I didn't squeeze in a little bit of shopping on Planet Earth, and darling, let me tell you, the shops here have never been so glorious! I treated myself to a brand new pink tulle tutu. Yes, you heard me right. The tiniest, most delicate pink tutu, it simply called to me. I couldn't leave it in that gorgeous little boutique (don't worry, I managed to get a gorgeous lavender dress in matching tulle for my upcoming performance for a rather discerning intergalactic prince - can't give too much away wink, wink).

Speaking of performances, let me tell you, I’ve been a bit busy lately. I've just had the absolute pleasure of performing in two stunning ballet shows on Planet Earth! First up, the world premiere of a brand new ballet piece based on the fairytale, Sleeping Beauty. You simply must imagine it, darlings, the exquisite choreography, the beautiful music, and a tutu the colour of a sunset! Ah!

Now, I'm sure you’re dying to know, darling, where I went! But first, I’d just like to share the fabulous show I'm seeing today. Today, January 8th, I’m lucky enough to be going to see the ever-so-talented Birmingham Royal Ballet performing The Nutcracker. Honestly, darlings, how I adore a good Nutcracker performance. If it wasn't for Tchaikovsky's musical masterpiece, I don't know where I’d be!

As for those fabulous performances, they were held in… drumroll, darlings…the majestic Royal Opera House! Did you know this theatre was opened back in 1858? They've kept their original chandelier! Can you imagine! Such a beautifully intricate, historically magnificent piece of architecture, and just brimming with elegance, style, and ballet history.

It wasn't just the grandeur of the opera house that sent my heart aflutter though. I absolutely loved the shows, of course! Let's start with the story ballet of Sleeping Beauty. Just as with most traditional story ballets, the whole evening was truly spectacular. And speaking of spectacle, the dancers were, oh, simply wonderful. Each pirouette, jeté, and grand jeté was a breath-taking masterpiece! Their passion was so infectious! Oh, the magic!

And The Nutcracker, that is always such a joyful, whimsical affair, full of captivating characters, adorable little dancing children, and just plain, beautiful ballet. It is quite frankly, one of the best shows I’ve seen all year! And with the snowflakes glimmering and the Christmas trees sparkling all around, I can’t imagine how they’ll ever surpass this level of performance, especially with those gorgeous, intricate costumes (particularly that sugar plum fairy, of course!)... and of course the dazzling tutus - there were tutus of every hue imaginable! Even one for a lovely intergalactic, royal prince - you know he must've adored the shade of pink, though, I doubt he’d be caught dead in a tutu. Not that that would be a bad thing... But, he must try a tutu soon. I mean, it’s all about embracing new experiences, isn’t it? And besides, what's better than seeing an intergalactic prince in a pink tutu while enjoying a divine cuppa? (They're simply divine on Planet Earth! Just lovely and strong, especially if you enjoy the flavour of Yorkshire tea, as I do. I do make the odd cup of English Breakfast when I'm missing the smell of a good ol' British breakfast - oh, how I do love a good sausage on Planet Earth. I actually don't think they make sausages quite as good in outer space.)

Ah, I just adore my trips to Planet Earth. So full of joy, dance, laughter, shopping, wonderful tutus... and you know, maybe just the odd intergalactic prince...

Well, darlings, I must go! There is a rather spectacular ball I have to get ready for, and it’s rather important. Oh! I forgot to mention - I’ll be wearing a stunning, beautiful pink ballgown that matches perfectly with the tutu I bought this week.

Do have a lovely week, and don't forget, be bold, be daring, and always, always wear pink.

And if you want a chance to see me performing with my intergalactic, royal prince dance partner - maybe in a tutu, who knows? (Perhaps not) - send your address to thepink-tutu.com and I'll send you an invite, dear darlings.

Much love,

Emma

PS. What did you think of this post? Have you been to any interesting *ballet performances this week? Do tell!*

And if you have any lovely new, stylish, pretty ballet or tutu stories (with a little hint of pink), tell me all about them in the comments section below, because darling, let’s face it, who doesn’t love sharing their ballet stories, right?

Right then, I'll be posting a brand new blog for you all next Wednesday at the usual time.

Goodbye, and remember… always be bold, be daring, and *wear pink!!!

## A bit more about Emma...

So darling, you’ve read about some of the fascinating trips and dances and shops and things I’ve gotten up to, so maybe you’re wondering about a few things. Now you see why I don’t blog about everything, because that's quite a story for another blog. So without further ado, darling, here's a few bits and pieces for you.

For those of you who may be new here, let me introduce myself: I’m Emma. And yes, as I have told you, I live in a rather stylish, pink-filled spaceship, in space (shocking, isn't it?). *It's an extra long space-yacht, with more than one crew member (and quite a lot of crew). I spend my time touring around the universe (well, mostly the local area) and, of course, blogging for you, my dear darlings. It's actually my main source of income! And it's great for someone like me because it’s so flexible around my performance schedule.

Of course, that does mean most of the year is spent in fantastic ballet performances, which usually involves, at least for me, being in a beautiful pink tutu. (Yes, darling, my aim in life is getting the entire Universe into pink tutus, if only I could.) There are, naturally, a few things I love to do on my travels, and I make a point of enjoying myself! It makes my life far more fulfilling, darling. And honestly, how can we not enjoy ourselves? After all, what else is life for? I’m very grateful to have the opportunity to share my love for ballet and everything related. My passion for it is so profound, it drives all that I do. Especially when I’m surrounded by beautiful ballet dancers, exquisite tutu creations, or simply stunning theatrical venues. Planet Earth is filled with some of the best, don’t you think? There are so many beautiful dance styles all over this lovely blue orb! You can't tell me otherwise. From the elegance of ballet, to the rhythmic fervor of tap dancing (it’s so fun!), or the energy and drama of street dance. I must say, dear readers, it truly makes my life so much more worthwhile, especially when it brings others joy, too! I do get quite a lot of people who find Pink Tutu World really uplifting. A lot of readers tell me that my writing really helps them find the courage to get up on stage or express themselves. I have always tried to use Pink Tutu World to help people, even if just in a little way, as well as giving you my views about tutus and dancing. So much of what we do is, after all, about how we choose to live. But when life gets too stressful, sometimes the best solution is to slip on a tutu, twirl, and just let your troubles melt away! Now, doesn't that sound divine, darling?

That's all for today, my loves! Don't forget I'll be posting next week! And I promise, *you will not be disappointed,* darlings! *

Now go and wear a tutu!
