Pink Tutu World: Ballet on Planet Earth! 🩰✨ (Post #995)

Hello, darlings! It's your favourite pink tutu-wearing ballerina blogger, Emma, back with another fabulously fun post from the very, very dusty planet Earth! This week, I'm taking you on a whirl through some of the most inspiring ballet moments I've experienced so far in my intergalactic travels – and let's be honest, everything is more inspiring in a pink tutu, isn't it?

But before we embark on this glamorous journey, let me just take a moment to acknowledge the fact that today is Wednesday, May 21st, 2014. Isn't that a fabulous date? Just think, it's not even halfway through the year, which means there are so many more pink-tutu-tastic adventures to come!

So, you know how I said this blog post is all about Earthly inspiration? Well, you see, this week, I was back on this oh-so-familiar planet (though let's be real, my spaceship is starting to feel like a second home!) and, darling, let me tell you, the balletic energy was buzzing like never before.

You see, I just had to pop into the fabulous city of Derby, nestled in my home county of Derbyshire (where it all began!) to catch a fantastic show at the wonderful Derby Theatre! Now, let me tell you, you simply cannot get enough of the grand old theatres in this neck of the woods! It was the most breathtakingly beautiful building – all marble and gold, and of course, filled with tons of enthusiastic and impeccably-dressed ballet fans!

Oh, darling, I simply must gush about the performance itself. It was a blindingly gorgeous presentation of The Nutcracker, but not your average Christmas production! It was a re-imagined, more modern take on the story – and darling, I loved it! They used gorgeous colours, sleek sets, and contemporary dance to bring a whole new life to Tchaikovsky’s beautiful score. And don’t even get me started on the costumes! Imagine shimmering metallics, intricate designs, and the absolute perfect blend of traditional and modern – it was tutu-ly dreamy, if I do say so myself.

Honestly, you could feel the sheer passion radiating from the stage. I have to confess, I’m not really the emotional, teary type, but it was the most heartwarming and truly enchanting experience. By the time the performance concluded, my heart was swelling with ballet joy, and I’m pretty sure I saw a few sparkling pink tears in the corners of my eyes – or maybe it was just a touch of shimmery eyeshadow!

However, this was only the beginning of my ballet-filled day! You know I always squeeze in a ballet class – I find it helps me to stay on top of my performance game – but in the glorious Derbyshire sunshine, this class felt especially wonderful. You just have to see the gorgeous, manicured gardens and stately buildings, you really can't help but flow and feel the magic! It felt like dancing on a floating cloud of grace and glamour!

It wasn’t just a day for the beautiful dance of ballet, though, darling, because the afternoon saw me embarking on a glorious shopping spree at the most incredible antique boutiques I have ever set foot in. Now, anyone who knows me, knows my unwavering love for vintage garments and gorgeous costume jewellery and these little shops absolutely blew my mind! You could literally smell the stories within each delicate garment, I promise you I found the most exquisite pieces, and some absolute bargains too! It felt just as satisfying as finding the perfect costume, a fabulous dress, a perfect pair of sparkly heels.

But, I did more than just hunt for vintage treasures. It simply wouldn’t be a true Emma blog post without paying tribute to the history of ballet – you know how much I adore learning about its evolution and the influence it has on fashion today! Well, my darling, there are no words to describe my awe at Derby’s splendid museum - filled with all sorts of wonderful ballet-related exhibits and relics – from ancient Egyptian frescoes showing early dance moves to original posters and costumes from famous ballets (think: Giselle, Swan Lake, even some amazing tutus from the era of *Le Corsaire!* Darling, if those designs aren't a source of inspiration for my own creations, I don’t know what is! It really was an absolute delight. I swear, I spent a whole hour admiring one particularly dazzling costume, and that wasn't even including all the beautiful art pieces they had on display! They had the most gorgeous painted ballet portraits and, dare I say, quite possibly the best ballet art collection I have ever laid my eyes on! It left me utterly enthralled! The way that art and movement collide through these exhibits really made me reflect on my own creative journey.

But of course, my darling, no Earthly journey can be truly tutu-tastic without indulging in an extraordinary culinary adventure! It would be nothing short of an unpardonable crime not to explore the delightful and decadent world of English cuisine! This week, I just had to have some traditional afternoon tea. Now, let’s just say that the delicious cakes, scrumptious finger sandwiches and piping hot, strong, perfectly brewed English tea, served in an utterly charming tea room (don't worry, the décor was impeccably chic), made the *whole trip absolutely *worthwhile! *

Of course, with every step I take, spreading the love of pink tutus is my number one goal. I adore seeing so many people in pink tutus already but, you see, the goal is to get the *whole universe wearing them! I think it's only right, darling! So, this week I even went to a fantastic ballet shop in Derby. (Honestly, it's like stepping into a ballet-lover's paradise, filled with all kinds of ballet shoes, tutus, and dance wear!) and the very kind owners even let me borrow a lovely, sparkly pink tutu, that I’ve got to admit I ended up dancing the night away in, whilst browsing all their gorgeous garments and treats. Sigh, they're just so inspiring!

Honestly, my darling, after this whirlwind of ballet, beauty, and delicious delights, it was so easy to step right back into my spaceship! I must confess, I haven’t even touched my suitcase yet – what is the point when your intergalactic journeys provide the most sensational souvenirs and inspiration?

Now, my darling, I'm off on yet another adventure, and, this time, my destination is far, far away, across the great vastness of space! And guess what? I'm sure it's just going to be full of beautiful new places, more fantastic performances, dazzling costumes and fabulous adventures to tell you all about!
