Planet Earth Diary: Post #1044 - Ballet On The Blue Marble!

Wednesday, 29th April 2015

Hello darlings!

Emma here, back from a whirlwind tour of our beautiful blue marble, planet Earth. It's been a whirl, a whirl, a whirl, my darlings! A pink-tutu-filled whirlwind that is, of course. Because here on Planet Earth, my home away from home, I found a whole lot of tutu magic!

A Derbyshire Dream

First stop, my very own home county, Derbyshire. As you all know, it's where the magic started for me. The village green, the dusty old church halls, my first shy attempts at a pirouette, it all began in those glorious fields and country lanes. And do you know what I saw? More and more pink tutus than I ever thought possible!

Little girls with bright eyes and a passion for twirling! Mothers with an appreciation for graceful steps! A pink tutu revival in the making, my dears. The locals, it seems, are embracing the colour pink in a big way. It was heartwarming, and a welcome sight, I must admit!

Backstage at the Bolshoi

After my trip to the birthplace of my passion, it was time for a grand ballet adventure. We zoomed off to the Bolshoi in Moscow, my darlings! Can you imagine, a ballet lover's dream?

The red velvet, the glittering chandelier, the murmur of excited audience members, the stage lit with the magic of a hundred lamps…and yes, I even spotted a handful of pink tutus in the audience! You know me, I always get a thrill spotting the "Tutu Tribe" in the crowds.

It's these moments, seeing a girl in her tutu in a crowded ballet audience, that make me believe the Pink Tutu Revolution is truly happening!

From Russia with Love (And Tutú!)

While in Russia, I found myself absolutely fascinated by the history of dance. Did you know that ballet has been part of Russian culture for centuries? It's more than just a dance, it's a symbol of national pride. And those stunning costumes, my darlings, some are works of art in themselves. It really set me thinking: how important are costumes in ballet? Do they actually play a role in the art of storytelling? I think they do. We can talk about this another day, though, there is so much more to cover!

A London Extravaganza

Now, from Moscow to London, that's quite a hop in a spaceship, my dears! The Royal Opera House! A palace of ballet, a symphony of sound, and yes, you guessed it, I was so excited to see all those beautiful pink tutus! The "Swan Lake" was simply breathtaking! It took me on an emotional rollercoaster, from laughter to tears and back again. The costumes? Oh, my dear, so elegant! The white and black contrasted so beautifully. It made me think: pink is such a fun colour, but even the classics need their white tutus to represent that purity of expression!

From London To The World

And the trip didn't stop there, oh no! London gave way to Paris, where I took in a glorious performance at the Palais Garnier. Then to New York City, a veritable ballet mecca! Broadway was bursting with a symphony of tutus and tap shoes, from "The Lion King" to "Wicked", every show was bursting with colour and energy.

This is what makes ballet such a fantastic thing: it can bring so much joy to every country and continent. The world needs more pink, darling, I'm convinced!

Pink Tutu Thoughts

My dear fellow Tutu Tribe members, the world is full of magical places and moments waiting to be explored in your own little pink tutu. Never forget to dance your heart out, to embrace the fun and frolic, to find the magic in every twirl and pirouette. Remember, the Pink Tutu is not just an outfit, it's a way of life. It's about embracing joy, expressing your inner grace, and sharing that love with the world. I believe we can make a difference, one tutu at a time!

Oh, before I forget! A very special dance show was going on in the Derbyshire town of Bakewell today. The famous Bakewell Bakewell! This show is an annual tradition for the community. People come from all over to watch dancers, enjoy cakes and have fun. Even I made it back home for this one. What an occasion!

See you next week, my darlings!

Your pink-loving, tutu-wearing friend,

Emma
