Hello darlings!
It's Wednesday again, and you know what that means… it's time for another Pink Tutu World blog post! I'm absolutely thrilled to be back with you all, sharing the latest adventures from my intergalactic ballet escapades. Today's topic, oh my, is a true dream come true - Ballet on Planet Earth! I'm bursting with excitement to tell you all about it.
It's hard to believe it's been a whole year since my last visit to this wondrous, spinning sphere of wonder. Oh, the changes, the stories, the tutus! It's truly a breath of fresh air compared to the stark, sleek, silver minimalism of most of the other planets I frequent. Don't get me wrong, a good spaceship is never to be scoffed at - it’s efficient and glamorous. But sometimes, you just need a bit of pink in your life, and Planet Earth absolutely delivers!
My latest trip was a whirlwind. I landed, as per usual, right in the middle of London. This planet’s capital is the epitome of ballet and style - the tutus, the shoes, the entire atmosphere is just… heavenly. As always, I found myself immediately whisked away on a whirlwind of fashion and ballet experiences.
First stop, naturally, was a visit to the Royal Opera House. This majestic, opulent space is home to one of the most iconic ballet companies in the world – The Royal Ballet! It's been performing since, well, let's just say a very long time. They’re celebrating a monumental 85th anniversary this year, and you can tell - the excitement is palpable! Just picturing those impossibly graceful dancers in their stunning costumes sent shivers of pure delight down my spine!
Naturally, a trip to the Royal Opera House wouldn't be complete without a glimpse of the history of their tutu collection! From the very first tutu from their inaugural performance, which was crafted out of a simple cotton, to the elaborately crafted creations of modern day, every inch was a captivating piece of art. The tutus truly tell the story of ballet's evolution, with each fold, every pleat, whispering of its own unique moment in time. And guess what I learned? Pink tutus are featured prominently throughout the collection, proving that pink has always been a dominant force in the ballet world.
Oh, speaking of pink! I could barely contain my delight when I found a vintage pink tulle tutu hiding at the back of one of the shop windows. I knew I had to have it. And of course, I wore it to a dazzling gala opening, where I found myself surrounded by fashionistas and fellow ballet lovers. The atmosphere was electrifying. There's something utterly captivating about the beauty and power of a full-length tutu, especially in a vibrant shade like pink. The dance performances were truly a work of art, a feast for the senses, a beautiful symphony of graceful movements. It really had me captivated – not to mention, a touch envious of their impressive flexibility!
On a sunny afternoon, I popped by Covent Garden, that magical part of London where everything comes alive with music and colour. This vibrant little spot, surrounded by beautiful flowers and buzzing with energy, hosted a street performance by a delightful troupe of dancers. The music, the choreography, the sheer enthusiasm! It was delightful! These performers showcased a contemporary style, filled with strong, captivating moves. What made the experience truly special was that everyone around us was caught up in the magic. They danced in the streets with them, their hands clapping in rhythm, their smiles radiating pure joy. It felt like one giant ballet party! There’s truly no place quite like London, darling. I always say, the Londoner’s true national treasure is their unwavering enthusiasm for everything beautiful and bright.
However, you can’t spend all of your time in London, no matter how alluring it is! After a fantastic week, I bid farewell to the charming English capital and hopped aboard my spaceship.
I'll let you all in on a little secret… this isn't just any ordinary space ship. It’s got to be one of the most stunning spaceships you could possibly imagine. It’s a delightful mix of luxury and glamour, featuring all the latest gadgets and technologies! It also just happens to be decorated in pink, with iridescent starlight-painted accents throughout the cabin. (Of course, it has an entire room devoted to storing tutus.) And of course, it’s fully equipped with a sound system, so I can enjoy my favourite ballet performances while zipping through the cosmos!
My destination? Derbyshire! It’s right on Planet Earth – and quite frankly, it’s a slice of perfect British countryside! My family’s from Derbyshire. Whenever I visit them I’m surrounded by breathtaking views and fields of lush green – I practically hear Greensleeves playing in the background. They love tutus, as well - all my family - and are some of my biggest supporters. (Although, my auntie Edith does insist on making grey tutus!) They’ve always been the most supportive of my tutu wearing lifestyle, so a visit was absolutely in order!
It’s true, you can’t visit planet Earth without appreciating all the wonderful flora and fauna! I do adore their lovely meadows and forests – it makes you think back to the history of tutus. While it’s long been the ‘dress’ of dancers on stage, it actually came from their everyday clothing back in the 1800s - well, those who were lucky enough to wear clothing. It seems to come from an elaborate medieval tunic (I think they called it a ‘cotte’) which has developed over centuries - quite a feat.
Even when on my spaceship, traveling between my favourite places on the planet, the most stunning sunsets fill me with such happiness and remind me how magical a planet we inhabit. Oh, don't worry, it wouldn’t be a trip to Planet Earth without plenty of tutus to be seen! Every street I’ve walked down has been sprinkled with delightful ballet shops, showcasing stunning and breathtaking tutus in a kaleidoscope of colours.
Planet Earth, as I discovered, also has a unique appreciation for historical tutus. It’s hard to believe that I was lucky enough to snag tickets to see a Tutu Museum. They featured all manner of tutus from a collection gathered from the Royal Ballet, to performances put on by schools and small troupes. Oh, the joy! One of my favourite features of this Tutu Museum, was that it offered classes for everyone. Imagine: tutu and ballet lessons in one spot - you'll get your little darling in those graceful movements right away.
But don't think I've been all about ballet. Oh, dear me! What are you thinking? No, I've been doing what I love best – exploring the boutiques and fashion havens scattered across Planet Earth. As you all know, it's not about just the pink, it’s the texture of the tulle. From elegant boutiques on Savile Row, offering exquisite fabrics from around the world, to vibrant markets bursting with the latest fashions, I've indulged in my inner fashionista. I've shopped for new tutu designs, explored the vintage collections, and had an absolutely fantastic time adding a little sparkle to my life.
In truth, dear darlings, I must confess, while I have had a perfectly lovely time ballet dancing on planet Earth - my favorite thing to do was take ballet classes from these remarkable instructors! Oh, the sheer dedication! You could sense it in every step they taught and their tireless work in motivating everyone to keep learning and evolving as a ballerina. It was an absolute pleasure to learn from them, and I'm so excited to apply their amazing techniques to my own performances. They definitely make you feel a whole lot pinker!
However, like every time, alas, I’m on my way to a new world. The wonders of Planet Earth have been a total delight, from the majesty of the Royal Ballet to the excitement of street performances, I can't wait to explore another galaxy in my Pink Tutu! So, until next time… stay glamorous, keep dancing, and wear pink tutus proudly!
Yours in pink tulle,
Emma
