Hello my darlings! Welcome back to Pink Tutu World! As ever, I’m Emma, your resident tutu-loving, galaxy-trotting ballerina. And trust me, darling, it’s been a busy week! This time last week I was orbiting the rings of Saturn, perfecting a pirouette under a kaleidoscope of shimmering dust clouds. Today, I'm back on Planet Earth - but don't think for a minute that my adventure's over! Today's post is all about the amazing ballet world back on our very own, fabulous, earth.
Firstly, a big hello to my lovely, Earthly followers! How have you all been? It feels good to be back and I’ve missed you all so much!
Now, for the past few weeks I’ve been indulging my insatiable curiosity and craving for intergalactic ballet, touring across the solar system, leaving a little bit of Pink Tutu magic in my wake! It’s always wonderful to meet new audiences on other planets - although I admit I did struggle to get them to embrace pink! It seems those beings with four arms and eight eyes prefer rather vibrant blues and greens… Oh, well!
But my time in the vastness of space can’t distract me from my absolute, utter passion for the beauty and wonder of our very own Earth and, darling, let me tell you, Earthly ballet has never looked so radiant! It’s bursting with passion, elegance and such sheer artistry, you simply won’t believe it until you’ve seen it yourself!
Now, speaking of seeing, let’s take a wander down memory lane, shall we? I was lucky enough to catch the most stunning performance by the Royal Ballet here in London last week. It was 'Giselle', a story ballet with an enchanting, otherworldly quality – absolutely perfect! The exquisite costumes were a delightful ode to the Victorian era and I just had to pick up a gorgeous ivory tutu with layers of tulle, from a sweet little shop tucked away on Jermyn Street after the show. A classic look, darling, that just screams elegance and grace – the epitome of Romantic Ballet!
And talking about graceful, have you seen those new “The Sleeping Beauty” costumes?! I’m absolutely in love! This production is so vibrantly rich and whimsical and it's the most fabulous visual feast for the eyes. The costumes are just breathtaking – a kaleidoscope of vibrant colours, decadent fabrics and oh, so much tulle! Just divine!
But darling, let’s not forget the art of moving – oh, those beautiful bodies, flowing across the stage with such incredible technique, just divine! The entire Royal Ballet company was spectacular, but oh darling, you won’t believe the beautiful choreography and stunning athleticism of the corps de ballet! Truly an unforgettable experience. I was totally captivated!
Speaking of which, darling, if you’re in the mood for something a little different, I recommend checking out the London Contemporary Ballet. They perform such incredible, groundbreaking work – it's a truly beautiful and innovative exploration of the art form! I had a brilliant time at their show, and let me tell you, there wasn’t a dull moment in sight! This performance, featuring a wonderful use of music, staging, lighting and props, really embraced that 'out there' quality of dance that I adore.
I’ve been a bit of a ballet aficionado since I was a little girl. Being born in the charming county of Derbyshire, I started learning ballet as soon as my tiny little legs could manage those glorious plies! My parents would even tell you that I had my very first tutu at the tender age of two – yes, that’s right! Two! I couldn't get enough of them! You can't blame me, can you? I was a total natural!
So naturally (pun intended!), I had to have a little ballet-themed shopping spree to celebrate my return to Earth! A trip to London wouldn't be complete without a pilgrimage to Liberty and Fortnum & Mason – absolutely essential for any fashion-conscious ballerina!
Liberty is simply magical! That unique Art Nouveau design is absolutely stunning and those beautifully woven fabrics – oh, the dreams they inspire! As for Fortnum & Mason, well, darling, there is nothing better for adding a little touch of sophistication and elegance to any wardrobe – their hats, bags and scarves are truly divine!
But enough about shopping – after all, I'm supposed to be telling you all about my fabulous intergalactic travels. Now, darling, let me tell you, one of the most incredible aspects of exploring the universe is meeting all those truly extraordinary, wonderful creatures on other planets! Each with their unique stories, talents and ways of life - the perfect inspiration for a good old fashioned blog post!
This week’s planet of the week, darling, is a total gem - and by gem, I mean sparkling with literally hundreds of tiny crystals that illuminate its surface like a shimmering sea! My word, what a truly magical planet! It's so fascinating! The people (or rather, being - there isn't quite a right word to describe them! – absolutely captivating!) They move with such elegance!
You have to imagine - a beautiful planet with crystalline landscapes, vibrant colours, dancing in the starlight. The ballet was an incredible mix of earthly moves, mixed with these beautifully graceful movements, like shimmering ribbons or twisting vines… Absolutely wonderful!
Of course, after each show, I'm always ready to chat with the local ballet enthusiasts about their local scene and see if I can help encourage them to put on a tutu or two! It's a passion, darling – a mission to bring the magic of pink tutus to everyone, every planet, everywhere!
For this week, darling, my trip is winding down, so it’s time to say goodbye. I hope you enjoyed my journey through the galaxy – it’s always a treat to share it with you. Stay tuned for more updates as I navigate the cosmos! Don’t forget to tune in to Pink Tutu World next Wednesday! Remember, darling, it's never too late to start a pink tutu revolution – let’s dance!
Lots of love,
Emma x
