Oh my darlings, the pinkest of pinks to you all! Today's post is extra-special, as it’s all about ballet on dear old planet Earth! Remember those splendid pictures from my last post? Well, after a quick (but oh so chic) space jaunt, I’ve landed back in good ol’ Derbyshire, my home turf! Now, I’ve got a real treat for you. Brace yourselves, because we’re going deep into the world of earthly ballet.
So, here's the scoop. I've been toying with this idea for weeks, you see. I simply must share some of my fave earthly ballet memories with you. Honestly, there are too many to choose from! Every show I’ve ever been to has left me with this delicious, pink and fluffy feeling of happiness. But hey, where to even start? Think about it! Ballet is such an extraordinary experience, isn’t it? The music, the dancers, the stories! Honestly, it’s pure magic! And let's be honest, no ballet performance is ever complete without a beautiful tutu!
Now, speaking of tutus! On this particular Wednesday (yes, that’s right - Wednesday is officially Pink Tutu Day in the Universe, in case you haven't heard! ;)) I went on a marvellous shopping spree in my favourite town, Ashbourne. Let’s just say I didn't just "buy" a tutu; I aquired it! And the most magical thing? It’s a delightful shade of pink. Imagine a sky full of pastel pink clouds, just with a touch more coral - that's exactly the hue of my new tut. Isn’t that just divine?
After my shopping spree, I headed to the quaint Derby Theatre, which boasts a captivating performance tonight. I'm absolutely gushing about it! You wouldn't believe how wonderful the performance was! And the most incredible part? This troupe - The English Youth Ballet - it’s entirely made up of kids from across England. Oh my stars! Their performance was utterly breathtaking. There was a particular scene in which they portrayed a magical kingdom, the characters dancing under a gorgeous aurora borealis. And if that wasn't dreamy enough, their tutus were truly phenomenal! All kinds of styles, shades, and even the most captivating details: flowers, feathers, you name it. The beauty was overwhelming.
Oh, don’t let me forget, their very last dance, oh, that was simply out of this world! The performers performed an electrifying piece set to Tchaikovsky's famous "The Nutcracker," showcasing the stunning array of costumes with an energy that could lift you right out of your seat. It’s all I could think about afterwards. I swear, I swear, it was a glimpse of heaven itself!
Before I jump off into my spaceship (just picturing it adorned with sparkling lights! So posh!) to visit another fantastic earthly city for my next blog post - and yes, another pink tutu purchase is most certainly on the itinerary, my darling friends - I wanted to share something rather unique about ballet and tutus on planet Earth. Did you know? The very first tutus, oh my darlings! They were white and incredibly practical - a complete no-no in the universe! Can you believe it?! Not the delightful pink I know and adore! Thankfully, in the early 1840s, Maria Taglioni, an exceptional dancer on Earth, began incorporating the colour and lightness we love so much into their creation! Finally, a touch of magic! And to think, that bold decision influenced dance fashion forever.
Of course, my dear friends, you already know that I adore a good old-fashioned ballet history lesson! Did you know that "tut" or "tutu" on planet Earth has nothing to do with tut-tut? Yes, that's a myth! In reality, the word comes from tu-tu, meaning "something puffy and voluminous." Who would have thought?! How marvelous is that?! But just wait, here’s the really fascinating part! Can you imagine, back in the 1900s, when the "ballet skirt" became more of a leg-revealing affair, you had two different categories of tutus! Imagine! "Short Tutus" (I always think this one is a bit…well… brief!) and "Long Tutus"! Such wonderfully exciting names for such glamorous creations.
In our time on the pink side of the universe, we just adore every single type!
Honestly, dear friends, I simply adore sharing these ballet wonders with you all. So until next time, I hope you all have the pinkest and most beautiful time!
Love, love,
Emma
Pink Tutu World: Behind The ScenesNow, before I take my leave for the night, I just have to indulge you all in a peek behind the curtain, so to speak. It’s what all good pink princesses like myself do, you know!
Since we’re in the spirit of Earthly ballet, let’s travel back in time for just a minute, and imagine 17th Century England, a time before even my great-grandmother's great-grandmother, and just picture... ballet! Yes, ballet was alive in this very same time on Earth, although a far cry from the stunning displays of today, isn’t it? So much has changed! Back then, ballet was all about extravagant gowns and intricate decorations.
Can you believe? It's a long and winding road! Back then, on planet Earth, even King Louis XIV of France decided to get in on the act! How utterly fantastic, he actually began making a real name for himself on stage - and, naturally, dancing with the same royal grace and elegance that any pink princess knows well! Honestly…
But, don't forget, ballet on earth has taken on a different life. And with a touch of magic, we’ve transitioned through so much change. From 19th Century "Romanticism," (I think they really got a handle on that lovely, light-footed movement!), we went from tutus with panniers, huge frills, and big, bulky bodices, yikes! And then... bam!... it was off to lighter tutus, revealing graceful lines! Can you imagine?
And yet... those elegant skirts didn’t end there, they continued their evolution...and we still have a long road ahead. Can you imagine where those wonderful skirts will go? Perhaps to some futuristic world! The imagination boggles, doesn't it? The sky’s the limit, after all, with our kind of tutus. Oh, I can hardly wait to see where those will go, oh my darling readers! Think how marvelous!
So, if you’re on planet Earth and happen to stumble across an exciting Earthly ballet performance… go for it! You won’t be sorry, I promise you that! The excitement of seeing live performance... and the magic of a beautiful tutu in full motion - it's pure pink magic, my dear readers! Pure pink magic!
See you all again next Wednesday!
