Hello darlings! It's your favourite ballerina blogger, Emma, back from another dazzling adventure, and this week's blog is a real peach! Buckle up, because you won't believe where I've been: Planet Earth! That's right, this Earthling took a little trip home for some much-needed terrestrial fun. I tell you, sometimes you just have to leave the sparkling lights and gravity-defying ballets of the galactic tour to find some truly inspiring art and, of course, fabulously fun fashion.
It's funny how things work out, isn't it? I landed back on Earth with a cosmically sized craving for a good old-fashioned tea and a spot of ballet at the Royal Opera House. I've been missing the familiar squeak of the pointe shoes and the hush that falls over the auditorium as the music swells and the dancers glide onto the stage.
Speaking of the Royal Opera House, let's take a quick step back in time to 1732 when this beautiful building, known as the Theatre Royal, first graced Covent Garden. It wasn't always ballet, of course! Those old, glamorous souls actually had an assortment of shows, even including acrobatics and conjuring! But the theatre soon found its true passion in ballet, making it the beating heart of this fabulous art form for hundreds of years. Just imagine those grand costumes, those lavish sets, the pure passion for the art form โ I can't help but think the very foundations of the theatre must still thrum with the rhythmic beats of ballet history!
Now, to present day, and the show I was seeing this time was The Sleeping Beauty. Let's just say I wasn't quite as snoozy as the titular princess. I've never seen such elegant and graceful dancers, each with a story etched in their movements. The entire audience, dressed in their finest, watched spellbound, each turn and jump taking them on a magical journey.
The costumes were to die for! Those gorgeous, flowing gowns! The jewel-toned silks and satin - like shimmering clouds dancing through the air. And did I mention the tulle? Mountains and mountains of fluffy, shimmering tulle. The entire experience made me just want to whip out my sewing kit and make something fabulous myself!
Afterwards, it was straight down to Covent Garden, for some shopping! And when I say "some shopping", I mean I swept through every boutique in that beautiful market, and emerged triumphantly with an overflowing basket full of sparkly, frilly, and oh-so-tutu-esque treasures. I had to! You know my passion: making every outfit a shimmering tribute to the elegance of ballet!
From dazzling shoes and hand-painted clutches to some adorable ballerina-inspired prints for my pink bedroom - let's just say I didn't disappoint in the shopping department! But let me tell you, some of my favourite shops were the vintage ones, stuffed with forgotten treasures like 50s poodle skirts, feathered hats, and vintage ballerina posters - oh the memories!
Later, we ventured out for an evening of more dance โ but with a decidedly more contemporary flavour. We had the pleasure of attending a fabulous street performance at a festival downtown - think "breakdance" but with an amazing ballet influence - the coolest, smoothest movements you could imagine! These performers are redefining what "street dancing" is all about โ all while being absolutely fabulous, of course. And naturally, I had to join them for a bit of impromptu ballet-inspired breakdancing in a shimmering pink tutu! (Did I mention it had tiny ballet shoes all over it?!)
Before my trip, I heard Earth was in the middle of what they call "Spring". And oh boy, it was a sight! The whole planet was a symphony of pinks, blues, greens, yellows - vibrant and bursting with life. There were even trees in blossom with clouds of pink petals! It was the ultimate inspiration for my new pink tutu collection. Oh yes, my dear readers, get ready to be transported to a land of whimsical charm and girly glamour because "Pink Tutu World" is about to blossom with a whole new line of pastel perfection.
Before we go, my sweethearts, I have a challenge for you - join me in embracing pink this week! Think bright pink lipstick, sparkly pink eyeshadow, pink shoes โ whatever makes you feel confident and fabulous! Don't be afraid to stand out โ after all, pink isn't just a color, it's an attitude!
You can always follow my journey on www.pink-tutu.com and stay connected on my Insta โ @pinktutugirl . Until next week, keep dancing, my dears, and let your spirits soar like a pink tutu floating on a breeze!
Big hugs,
Emma
