Wednesday 17th July, 2019 - Darling, it's Pink Tutu time!
Well, my fabulous space travellers, we're back from a whirlwind journey around the Milky Way, and let me tell you, it was divine! But before we dive into the delights of last week's cosmic adventures, let's catch up on what's happening on good old Planet Earth.
It's been a glorious summer so far, isn't it? All those sunny days, picnics in the park, and of course, those glorious open-air ballet performances under the stars. If you're in Derbyshire like me, don't forget the Matlock Festival on Saturday! It's always such a treat to watch all those talented dancers and their amazing costumes.
Speaking of costumes... did you see my newest tutu from last week's space escapade? It's a heavenly shade of lavender with sequined accents - truly a cosmic confection. It reminds me of a shimmering nebula, but with a touch of earthly elegance. If I do say so myself!
And now, back to those dazzling adventures, my darlings!
We embarked on a journey from the majestic planet Venus to the stunning moons of Jupiter - did I mention the dazzling fashion shows? They simply put Planet Earth's runways to shame, with fabrics made from starlight and celestial fabrics.
First up, we had the "Moonbeam Serenade" collection, which showcased gravity-defying, feather-light garments made of moonlight-infused silk. Honestly, the craftsmanship was truly interstellar. I simply had to nab one of those celestial shawls! It’s an absolute showstopper! I wore it on our stop over in the Orion Nebula – just a casual trip.
The next stop was a delightful show in the swirling clouds of Venus - talk about fabulous, darling! The entire show was set on a cloud-borne platform - Imagine it: shimmering silk gowns with Venus' ethereal winds as a backdrop! Not one tutu to be seen. You can imagine the scandal, right? But the planet was surprisingly accepting - and everyone danced their heart out, from Venusian opera singers to star-crossed lovers, they all embraced the fabulous, with a truly beautiful energy that left us floating in a daze for days. We just had to make a few trips to their local market, you see. All that celestial silk is practically irresistible - who needs space rockets when you can just glide around on a cloud, and take in a stunning fashion show whilst wearing sparkly galactic silk!
My friend Astra was in the mood to shop in the nearby star cluster M13, so we spent a morning there browsing some dazzling galaxies. They had these amazing shimmering accessories from across the cosmos - think star dust earrings, galactic hand-bags, and even interplanetary nail polish! I bought an entire collection - and it just matched my new lavender tutu, you just can't imagine how fabulous I was. Just a typical day.
However, what really stole the show was the “Cosmos of Love” ballet on Europa, a moon of Jupiter.
Oh, the drama!
The story was simply divine – a cosmic Romeo and Juliet – an enchanting love story, played out in a galaxy of sparkling celestial bodies and choreographed against a backdrop of stars and comets. The dancers wore shimmering costumes, their movements were so beautiful, fluid and dramatic that it had me reaching for my pocket handkerchief - a rare sight, darling! The ending, however, left everyone speechless. They never even kissed.
I was, of course, particularly mesmerized by the ballerina’s incredible costumes. We simply had to catch up on their trends. A quick journey down to "Luna City" - and a visit to one of their most trendy fashion shops, “Stardust Avenue" . There were just so many breathtaking garments, but let me tell you: those European girls have a very distinct style - everything was about floating textures, airy silhouettes and - of course, lots of delicate silver sparkles. We, of course, had to talk all about their latest fabric choices, all created with meteorite materials, and then there were these incredible shimmering shoes - and these outfits really were out of this world - we spent a week just comparing styles. It was worth every second, darling. Now we’re both fully equipped with some serious out-of-this-world garments!
In addition to shopping and ballet performances, of course, we simply had to spend time experiencing the history of fashion in those alien cities.
I mean, who doesn't love a bit of vintage cosmic style? Turns out, on Jupiter's moon Io, they have an amazing archive of fashion from their galaxy. A real “Cosmic Catwalk” I might say. And their costumes? - totally inspired by celestial beings and myths! I found out they are very keen on this "Nebula Fashion" which they started wearing in 7051 - can you believe how fashionable those alien dancers were even back then? They must have been very busy learning about the galaxy.
What are those “celestial being” creatures that are such a favourite inspiration for those Europeans, you may wonder. Well, my dears, let me tell you: on Europa, they love talking about their Star Maidens – magical beings who were responsible for creating their cosmic fashions, the colours and even the very fabric - you just can't beat this kind of magical backstory!
Back here on Earth, we all love a “story”, we want to know the background behind an outfit, especially those tutus, that's just how it works here in our world of ballet fashion. We even have books, you see. The history of ballet fashion in its glorious pink-tutu filled years - that’s my very favourite type of story to read.
Now, you may be thinking, dear reader, that I might have a touch of "Pink Tutu Madness" .
It's true, darling, I have a particular affection for the iconic pink tutu - in fact, it's almost an obsession, if I'm honest! Pink tutus just symbolize everything wonderful, romantic, and whimsical about ballet. I firmly believe every dancer in the universe should own at least one, and I have this grand dream of everyone in the universe wearing one. It might be a little ambitious, darling, but what are dreams for if we don't reach for the stars, literally, with our tutus and all our beautiful celestial outfits? But before you get on my case, just know I never travel without one, even when on these galactic trips, and it simply looks even better under all those stars, don’t you agree, darling?
On Earth, however, I like to visit the local ballet schools and encourage the young aspiring dancers - they are simply so precious in their tutus. You'd be surprised how many dancers around the world have never worn a pink tutu, just because they don’t want to wear one, and let’s be honest darling, they haven’t discovered that pink tutus can really rock a galactic ballet. It's simply a travesty!
There's a fabulous tutu workshop for budding dancers called the "Pink Tutu Dreams" event, held annually at the Royal Ballet School in London - I may be slightly biased, but they always host some absolutely spectacular displays. It is, without a doubt, a must for all ballerina wannabes. But more about that next time!
Right now, however, it’s time for my favourite ballet show this summer: The Royal Opera House is staging an enchanting production of “Cinderella,” and it’s an absolute must-see. My tickets are ready! I already got my most magnificent tutu prepared for this glorious night. You simply must get yours as well!
For the record, my love of the “Cinderella” story is a life-long affair, from my childhood when my mother would read the fairytale aloud, right through to watching it in a beautifully crafted film with Julie Andrews - oh, to see those glamorous balls! And I’ve loved every “Cinderella” ballet rendition I've been lucky enough to witness.
“Cinderella” is just so inspiring - from the fairytale romance, the triumph of love and kindness to the ultimate princessing. I may never be a real princess, but that never stopped me from feeling the magic and dreaming those grand, fairy-tale dreams that just might lead to that grand cosmic waltz!
My dears, until next week's cosmic dance adventure, be sure to follow all the latest fashion trends and ballet shows, both on Earth and across the galaxy! Always dance to the rhythm of your own hearts, and embrace those magical tutus, be they pink, lavender or a shade of galaxy starlight. And always remember, my darlings, it’s always pink tutu time.
Love always,
Emma
P.S: Please be sure to let me know which cosmic destinations you’d like me to explore in my next galactic escapade. I love getting your comments and always looking for amazing, stylish adventures, as well as fashion tips, of course!
