Hello, darlings! Emma here, reporting live from Planet Earth! It's Wednesday, 16th September 2020, and I'm bubbling over with excitement! Why? Well, I've had a fabulous time back on my home planet, experiencing the wonderful world of ballet here, in good old Derbyshire!
Let's be honest, darlings, this has to be my favourite week of the year! It's National Ballet Week in the UK, a week dedicated to the art form I love more than anything else in the entire universe! It’s filled with a flurry of ballets, performances, workshops and all sorts of delights! 💖
You'd think being a pink tutu-wearing ballerina, hopping between planets would leave me a bit… well… planet-worn. But I promise, I’m a whirlwind of pure energy and joy. I mean, even a little trip back to the land of fish and chips always feels like an adventure! Plus, it gives me the chance to rediscover my roots. What’s a cosmic pink ballerina without a little down-to-earth inspiration? 😉
I arrived in good time this year to fully embrace the Ballet Week celebrations. Firstly, I made a bee-line to The Royal Opera House in London – it's always a must-visit. Oh, you simply have to be there, dear readers! It’s like the home of ballet history, all that history – it's absolutely breathtaking. Every creak of the floor, every swirl of the chandelier… it makes me want to twirl and twirl. 💖
You might have already seen me perform my "Starlight Serenade" show for their anniversary – I can't tell you how thrilled I was! It felt incredible to grace that historic stage, sharing the same hallowed ground as some of ballet’s legends. 💖
And then, the fun really began! It's a miracle of planning, I tell you, balancing performances, workshops and attending shows... oh, the ballet shows! My favourite moment was seeing the incredibly talented National Ballet performing Romeo and Juliet. Heartbreaking. A ballet masterpiece, my dear readers! If you get a chance, run to catch it. I literally left with my heart pounding, my mind awhirl!
This time on Earth, I have had to make sure my ballet-wear was top notch, too. You know me! A ballet class is not complete without a new outfit, right? 💖
Now, you simply cannot come to Planet Earth and not do a little ballet shopping, right?! Oh my word, darling readers! From elegant tutús and silky shoes to breathtaking dancewear and fabulous tights - I went shopping mad. I found some truly stunning things! There was a delightful little store tucked away in London that had all sorts of wonderful outfits – from modern pieces for street dancing to classical creations fit for the stage. It was heaven, darling, heaven! 💖
This trip was about more than just showing off my moves though! It was an opportunity to reconnect with my past. A couple of days ago I went to the Derby Museum of Art & Design to revisit the exhibit of the iconic 1926 Ballet Russes – it was the one with the iconic stage sets and costumes by Coco Chanel! Such beauty, so dramatic, my dear readers! If you have a chance to go to this exhibit go. I can’t stress it enough.
As a bonus, the Museum also had a wonderful little exhibit on costume history – all about the evolution of the dance costume through the years. I spent ages wandering through their incredible collections, it was simply fascinating. The change over time! Just goes to show you that even the fashion world, darling readers, is always evolving, even when it comes to tutús. 🩰
Of course, I took a few photos… well, just a few… whoops. I might have accidentally snapped a few hundred. Don’t worry, you can find them on my blog at www.pink-tutu.com! There you’ll find my beautiful Pink Tutu outfit pics as well as some shots of my journey! Remember, if you want to stay connected with my life on and off planet Earth, you can always sign up to my weekly email newsletters. (And no, they aren’t filled with the pink fluff you’re imagining, darling readers. I’m far too sophisticated for that – you know my blog has a serious streak in it… right?) 😜
You have to admit, nothing is more magical than ballet… well, maybe dancing around Planet Earth with my new pink tutu... 💖 But there is one little problem...
Since returning, I've noticed the "pink tutu" movement is… well, a little slower to catch on here on Earth. While my cosmic fan base (thank you, kind cosmic citizens) is fully onboard, the locals are still taking it one pirouette at a time... but don't you worry. I've got my tutu, my spaceship, and my determination. 💖
*Planet Earth, I’m coming for you… pink tutús for everyone! * 🩰
Catch you next week for another planet-hopping adventure! 💋
XOXO Emma ✨💖
P.S. Don’t forget! My Pink Tutu Show starts on the 24th of September! 💃 (A little spoiler – it’s absolutely spectacular this year! I’m planning an out-of-this-world performance and I’m sure you're going to adore it… oh, and it might be pink-themed 😉!) Tickets are on sale now!

This week's special tip! : I know it might feel daunting, but don’t be shy to step onto the stage. I recommend the little known and little travelled "Pink Tutu Cafe" on Planet Earth for every ballerinas' first stage fright experiences. (I recommend it after the Royal Opera House… that stage might be a little intimidating!). You’ll have a chance to take to the floor, in the middle of an afternoon tea with the most delightful pastries! Who knows… you may just be the next superstar! 😊
