Hello my darling darlings! It's Emma here, back with you for another week of pink tutu magic and interstellar adventures! As you all know, I post here every Wednesday at 12 noon (GMT, naturally!) from my little corner of the Earth - Derbyshire, England. If you're just joining us, I'm a gal who absolutely lives for all things tutu! From the intricate details of historical dance costumes to the most fabulous contemporary designs, it's all pure tutu bliss.
And oh my, today I have so much to tell you about my recent jaunt to Planet Earth! Yes, it’s been an absolute whirlwind, a real Pink Tutu World adventure. It's not every day that a girl gets to journey across the cosmos, you know! And believe me, it was just as dazzling as you could possibly imagine.
This week, my Pink Tutu World journey brought me to Earth on 2020-09-23, which coincidentally was just the day after the annual Ballet for Everyone Day (September 22nd) - what a delightful way to start the trip! Imagine a world where everyone celebrated the art of ballet – it was truly inspiring. I saw so many people embracing this elegant, expressive art form. There were public ballet demonstrations in parks, pop-up workshops in cafes, even a grand finale in a theatre featuring a beautiful performance of 'The Sleeping Beauty'! I might have shed a few happy tears at that one.
But you all know, my journey wouldn't be complete without a bit of retail therapy. And believe me, this little planet doesn't disappoint! My heart did a little flutter when I spotted a divine little vintage boutique filled with beautiful tutus – think pastel shades, tulle that looked like spun sugar, and some absolutely stunning sequined pieces! Naturally, I had to take a couple back with me, as my current pink tutu collection was starting to look a little lonely in my cosmic wardrobe.
Another fabulous find? You won't believe this one: a shop filled with tutus inspired by all the planets of the solar system. Can you even imagine?! A shimmering gold tutu fit for a celestial being for our Sun? A vibrant blue Neptune number with hints of emerald green and the faintest sparkle? Of course, I went with a pink tutu emblazoned with an exquisite celestial Earth print, complete with clouds, oceans, and swirling pink stars – a real showstopper!
Talking about showstoppers, my most incredible memory of Earth was the live performance at the Royal Opera House. It was an enchanting version of Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake - the dancers, their movements so graceful, so ethereal! I actually managed to snag a ticket at the last minute, which I know is a bit of a miracle, especially for a spontaneous trip. It's one of those events you simply have to experience to truly understand, so if you get the chance to see it, take it! You won't regret it.
But, you see, that’s not even all! As if my trip couldn't get any more magical, I was absolutely thrilled to discover a beautiful old shop in London specializing in historical dancewear. I just love learning about the evolution of tutus, and the pieces they had there were truly awe-inspiring! My absolute favourite? A 19th century silk and velvet bodice with a sweeping satin skirt, and of course, all adorned with elegant hand-stitched lace and beadwork. Pure dreamy goodness, wouldn't you say?
Speaking of historical styles, have you seen those fabulous ballet shoes being made in the workshop behind the shop? Every step of the crafting process – from preparing the leather to shaping the shoe – felt like pure magic. This journey just continues to astound me with all its little moments of exquisite detail, of history, of passionate craftsmanship.
And you won’t believe this, my dearest readers! I found the perfect location for a mini pink tutu fashion show: a sprawling park filled with charming little cafes, tucked away amongst the cobbled streets and colourful blooms. The scene felt almost Victorian, as if plucked straight from a fairytale. The sun was shining, the atmosphere buzzed with life and a cheerful energy, and the light cast a glorious glow over everything. You could practically smell the lavender and fresh-baked pastries in the air, so quintessentially British! It truly felt like the perfect stage to celebrate my vibrant collection, from delicate pastel designs to striking, ultra-feminine hues, complete with glittering embellishments.
I performed a little "pas de deux" with a local Earthling ballet dancer - we even ended the show with a charming curtsey - you could just tell, everyone in the audience was swept away by the magic. It was the perfect way to say "bonjour" and "goodbye" to Planet Earth.
You might be wondering, what exactly was I doing in Planet Earth? My answer: well, it's about spreading the joy of ballet across the universe! You see, I'm on a very important mission – a mission to get everyone in the cosmos wearing a pink tutu! The galaxy needs more pink, more sparkles, more laughter, more grace and charm. Think of it this way, pink is simply a colour that exudes pure happiness – a perfect embodiment of ballet's grace and joy, don't you think? It's time to embrace the universe’s true colour.
It's been a remarkable trip! Every stop, every encounter, has been filled with joy, beauty, and unexpected surprises. Planet Earth, it seems, is a real hidden gem. Of course, it goes without saying that I’ll be back – and my mission is definitely ongoing! So keep an eye on this blog, dear readers. Who knows where the next Pink Tutu World adventure will take me!
I leave you with a very important thought – ballet is for everyone, whether you’re a seasoned ballerina, a total beginner, a casual observer, or simply a pink tutu-loving enthusiast like me! If you feel it, go for it.
