Hello darlings!
It’s Wednesday, which means it's time for another fabulous post from your favourite pink tutu-clad intergalactic explorer. This week, I'm bursting with excitement because I’ve just returned from a dream trip to Planet Earth – my home planet, for those who are just joining me on this sparkly journey!
I know what you're thinking, "Emma, why go back to Earth when you've got the whole universe at your fingertips?" Well, sometimes, there's just nothing quite like experiencing the beauty and energy of home. And, of course, it's impossible to leave the Earth without squeezing in some absolutely fabulous ballet.
A Return to Derbyshire Roots
This time, I was back in Derbyshire, my county of birth. I just had to see the snow-capped peaks and those rolling green hills. I popped by my childhood ballet school, Dance Academy, and had a little teary-eyed reminiscence over the studio. How much I loved my time there! It's still the same lovely school, full of promise and pink ballet shoes, just as it always was.
I got a glimpse of a beginner ballet class as I strolled through the corridors. The sight of those little cherubs learning the first positions, all those tiny tutus… it just melts my heart. They all have stars in their eyes – those stars, you see, are the future of dance. It's magical, that moment when the love for dance starts to blossom. And seeing their enthusiasm fills me with an insatiable longing to share the magic of the tutu and dance with the entire universe. That's my ultimate mission – pink tutu world!
A Performance To Remember
The main highlight of my Earth visit, though, had to be seeing The Sleeping Beauty at the Royal Opera House in London. The venue itself is a complete spectacle, a symphony of history and architectural splendour – imagine ornate carvings, grand balconies, velvet seats and a dazzling chandelier so huge it just about swallowed the entire theatre!
It was such an impressive spectacle to behold! It wasn't just the breathtaking visuals that stole my heart though, no, the dance was equally exquisite. The prima ballerina, she was quite simply divine, as ethereal as a swan gliding on water, graceful as a wisp of smoke. Every gesture was imbued with meaning and emotion. I’m not sure my tears were entirely due to the moving storyline - it was sheer joy.
But my absolute favourite bit of the performance had to be the Lilac Fairy. Her entrance, with those beautiful wings… just magical! And her performance… oh, the precision, the elegance, the effortless artistry! It reminded me of why ballet holds such a special place in my heart, why I dedicate my life to it. Every movement tells a story, and with the right interpretation, can bring a tear to your eye, a surge of joy or even a thrill of adventure. It truly is the most powerful language.
Shop, Shop, Shop!
You can’t mention the Royal Opera House without touching on the amazing shop they have! If you are a fashionista like me, it's heaven. This place had everything a fashion-obsessed ballerina could want. Stunning gowns, exquisite jewellery, beautiful ballet shoes and, naturally, I came away with a magnificent pink silk scarf emblazoned with the Sleeping Beauty design, which is now hanging proudly in my spaceship. I’m a bit obsessed with Sleeping Beauty. And I had a really tough time resisting the pair of ballet shoes adorned with miniature pink satin bows!
And then of course, it’s not a trip back to England without a proper London shopping spree! I wandered around those bustling streets and discovered the most wonderful boutique hidden away in an alley off Oxford Street. It’s full of vintage fashion, retro chic, and fabulous vintage dancewear. And naturally, it was an absolute tutu wonderland.
The owner was a lovely, old-fashioned Englishwoman named Amelia. We got chatting and it turned out, she was an old friend of my granny. Granny was also a ballet enthusiast - as are all the women in my family. Granny often told me about Amelia and all the dance wear she had in her shop back in the 60s and 70s, but I’d never been before, and Amelia couldn’t believe I was her granddaughter, and an intergalactic explorer at that. She actually tried to persuade me to buy a magnificent beaded black sequined, full-length dress, telling me that it was a 'statement' piece – an absolute bargain too, at £25! Sadly, as glamorous as it was, black is not my colour, I have to say… pink is the only true statement. It screams confidence and glamour and above all, fun!
Time to Catch the Next Flight
Of course, this trip to Earth had to be a short one – my galactic tour schedule is rather packed, and I've got more performances to put on. But, as I said before, there’s always something special about Earth, and I’m already dreaming of my next visit!
You can be sure that I’ll be reporting on every thrilling journey, every stunning outfit, and every magical performance on this blog! So, make sure you check back here on Pink Tutu World every Wednesday, and maybe, just maybe, you'll be inspired to join me on my adventure to spread the pink tutu gospel!
Until next time darlings!
Your interstellar fashionista,
Emma

P.S - Just a reminder, for those who may have missed the post last week - 27th January 2021 (the date of this post) marked the anniversary of a truly pivotal moment in ballet history: the birth of the ballet legend Rudolf Nureyev, born on this date, back in 1938! You just can’t forget the impact of this incredible dancer - his brilliance, the freedom he brought to classical ballet and his groundbreaking approach to the form of ballet. He was, undoubtedly, revolutionary, so much so, he practically transformed ballet itself! This legendary dancer would have loved to have seen those tutu dancers and fashionista intergalactic space adventurers spreading ballet’s magic, pink tutu style, right across the universe, that's for sure! It’s only fair that we celebrate his magnificent contribution to dance in style – the way Rudolf would have liked it, of course. Pink tutu obligatory for the occasion!
