Pink Tutu World: Blog Post 1353 - Ballet on Planet Earth (31st March 2021)

Hello, darlings! It's your favourite tutu-loving space traveller, Emma, and I'm absolutely thrilled to be back on Planet Earth for another whirlwind adventure!

This week's blog is all about the wonders of ballet – here on the home planet and the most fabulous galactic performance I've ever seen.

As you know, I'm a firm believer in spreading the joy of tutus far and wide. It's a mission I take very seriously. So, this week I decided to delve into the fascinating history of tutus on Earth. I found out some right bonkers things about their evolution! Did you know they didn't always look like they do now? Way back when, dancers would wear super long skirts, and even just fabric swathed around their bodies. Imagine how much material it must have taken to make one tutu in those days! But nowadays, tutus come in all shapes and sizes. From the classic, multi-layered romantic ones, perfect for "Swan Lake", to the super modern minimalist ones, designed for cutting-edge contemporary pieces, there's a tutu out there for everyone.

So, on my adventure through Planet Earth, I did what I do best - I hit the streets, and visited the amazing London ballet stores and even the museums and art galleries. You wouldn’t believe the magnificent historical tutu collection they have at the Victoria and Albert museum in London.

I have to admit, after seeing the old photos of those intricate, massive tutus worn by ballerinas of old, my suitcase started getting full of fabrics. Oh, the excitement of shopping for my ballet wardrobe. A new sparkly pink tutu, an extra frilly and floaty tulle, just for kicks. And my new vintage ballerina costume! Absolutely perfect. So dramatic and I can’t wait to wear it.

Later in the day, I went to the grand, Victorian era Royal Opera House, just a hop, skip and a jump from Covent Garden and found myself backstage, rubbing shoulders with the actual real-life dancers. You have to know this, they are incredibly dedicated to their art! Such focus and dedication, but oh so fun, happy and ready to put on a fabulous show.

That evening, the Royal Opera House ballet was nothing short of spectacular! There were amazing costumes, breathtaking choreography, and oh, the tutus were chef’s kiss. It truly was an enchanting experience, full of laughter, grace and elegance. It really filled me with joy, and I think, a good helping of tutu envy. I can't wait to make one that special to add to my collection!

But of course, I couldn’t spend my whole trip to Earth without some good ol' fashioned, out-of-this-world, dance floor fun! It wouldn’t be a true adventure if I didn't explore Planet Earth’s cultural underground.

So, my journey to the city's bustling club scene, an iconic neon lit and electric beat driven scene of underground and futuristic club dance! Let me tell you, there’s some seriously good dancing going on there! And who needs fancy costumes and tutus, right? With their neon lit backdrops, dancers embraced the style of free, fluid and expressive movements and wow, let me tell you they moved. Oh so very well, as I spun, leaped and did all kinds of ballet steps that are perfectly normal on Planet Earth!

But Planet Earth’s underground scene doesn’t just offer those nightclub scenes, oh no. It was during this amazing underground adventure, that I saw an inspiring troupe of street dancers. They wore perfectly coordinated matching pink tutus. Yes, you heard correctly, pink! These dancers were full of energy and the coolest street moves, taking this amazing art of dance onto the streets, where all could see. They even used everyday things as their performance stage! And wouldn't you know it, my dance steps had found their home amongst the dance floors! They loved my twirls and leaping, all those ballet things I love and know well! We’ve already begun work on collaborating and making plans to open up a school together.

Before I left the amazing underground world of London's street scene, I stopped by a fashion boutique, one owned by the super stylish young street dancer! Of course, they made me try on their tutus, oh, so soft and amazing. It is clear this love of dance extends to the way you express yourself through clothing and of course tutus! They have a fashion line for all occasions, including an incredible tutus and ballet skirt line, featuring everything you’d need to step out and make your statement!

Of course, the very best part about all of this was seeing how happy it made people to see a tutu, especially a bright pink one, like me. One lady told me that seeing my tutus reminded her of the feeling of childhood wonder, a time when she'd dream of being a princess, or a fairy. It made my heart swell with joy knowing I'd had a positive impact on someone's day. Even one very cool looking dude with piercings, tattoo's, shaved head and dressed all in black! When I did my spin and pirouette in front of him, I think, his heart melted just a little. His surprised look changed to a huge grin, which melted into this adorable kind of smile and gave a cheeky, thumbs up. It made me happy, it really did! I bet, a pink tutu might have made his day, it really is about bringing joy, you know?

And it's not just on Earth that I'm spreading the pink tutu love! Last week, I had an amazing performance on planet Vega, a totally magical space station that's got pink and blue clouds that are filled with sparkly rainbows. You can't imagine how beautiful and bright those colours are! I had a packed-out audience of Viganese. Now, these creatures have six legs and two furry tails and the sweetest, most infectious laugh I've ever heard.

My new Viganese best friend told me how amazing the show was! I taught them how to do a classic chassé, you know, the graceful sideways step dancers use when moving on the floor. Then I showed them my version of a ballerina twist, a very dramatic, elegant pirouette and some of my fun space dance steps I created while travelling the galaxy. When we bowed for the curtain call, the Viganese crowd screamed, chanted and cheered like crazy. They completely stole my heart. And the coolest thing, I sold out of my collection of pink tutus! I knew those cute Viganese were tutu enthusiasts too.

Speaking of pink tutus and my spaceship travels. You must know I was lucky to receive a new spaceship update. You guessed it! A bright pink one, but even better, a much more spacious, streamlined version of my little love! So now it is officially called, the “Pink Tutu” and you will be able to join me and my dance adventures from all corners of the galaxy! I can’t wait to fill you all in with those exciting adventures.

Remember, my darlings, my mission is to make sure everyone, everywhere, gets to wear a pink tutu. So if you're thinking about joining me on my cosmic journey to spread the love of ballet, and those fabulous tutus, remember www.pink-tutu.com, my little planet earth corner of the galaxy!

Love,

Emma
