Hello darlings! Welcome back to Pink Tutu World – your one-stop shop for all things sparkly, twirly, and fabulous! This week, I'm coming to you from the bustling, vibrant planet Earth, where the air hums with excitement and the streets are overflowing with fabulous fashion choices.
It's Wednesday, October 13th, and the universe is feeling extra-pink today! It's practically drizzling glitter – which is why I've decided to spend this special day taking in the magic of terrestrial ballet. Now, before you scoff and think I've completely lost my marbles, I'd just like to remind you that the human ballet is one of the most breathtaking displays of athleticism and artistic expression in the known galaxy.
Oh, and let's not forget about the tutus. Those fabulous, billowing, multi-layered masterpieces that practically shout "Look at me, I'm graceful and beautiful!". They are works of art in themselves, sculpted to flow effortlessly as a ballerina performs her steps. Trust me, dear readers, once you've witnessed a real ballet performance in full costume, you'll be a believer in the power of a well-crafted tutu.
And the human ballet is rich with history! From the grand ballerinas of the past to the dazzling modern interpretations, human ballet offers something for everyone. And on this little blue marble of a planet, the tradition of ballet is truly interwoven into the fabric of society.
This week, I was lucky enough to be invited to a delightful show by the Royal Ballet Company in London – an actual ballet powerhouse in the terrestrial world. They treated us to an exquisitely choreographed version of Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake. Oh, the beauty! Oh, the talent! The story unfolded with a tenderness that made my heart ache. And those tutus – oh those tutus! Imagine a majestic, ethereal white tulle tutu transforming into a dramatic black tutu in a mesmerizing dance that represented both grace and anguish. Simply divine!
But Earth is more than just a world of professional ballets. There are dance schools popping up everywhere, community theaters full of talented amateurs, and even the odd ballet flashmob bursting forth on a unsuspecting public! Just imagine the joy of being suddenly surrounded by whirling tutus, defying gravity with graceful leaps and intricate spins. Who can resist that sort of unexpected delight?
This planet really does have it all, dear readers.
Now, let's chat about Earth's current fashion scene. I've been on a shopping spree and it’s clear that this planet has an almost insatiable appetite for style. There are countless boutiques and high-street shops crammed with amazing finds for the sartorially inclined. While I am still obsessed with my vibrant pink tutus (duh!), it’s fun to play around with some of the more earth-toned options – you know, like forest green and blush pink. Maybe, I'm becoming an earthy Emma? (Although the earth might be a tad dull for my tastes!)
Of course, it wouldn’t be a proper Pink Tutu World post without a little bit of Tutu Talk.
Did you know, darlings, that the tutu is actually a relatively new addition to the world of dance? It's been around for about 200 years, with its first appearance in Marie Taglioni's iconic dance La Sylphide. A daring choice for the time! Can you imagine all the drama surrounding those fluffy layers? I, for one, am so thankful to Marie Taglioni – what would the world be like without those divine creations? It simply wouldn't be the same!
Speaking of fashion and the dance world, a real highlight this week has been my encounter with a wonderfully creative street performer outside Covent Garden in London. This incredible woman was performing in a flowing red tutu, gracefully leaping, and spinning. A real vision! The best part? She’d paired her fabulous red tutu with an absolutely spectacular top hat – that's right, a top hat and tutu! What a fashion icon. It just shows that anything goes in the magical world of dance!
My trip to London wouldn't have been complete without a proper afternoon tea, with finger sandwiches, scones, and delectable pastries. Of course, everything had to be pink, with a sprinkle of glittery magic. (My love for pink has gotten me some strange looks! However, it’s so worth it for all the delicious Instagram-worthy pictures.)
Speaking of photos, you can check out all the snaps from my trip to the Royal Ballet on my social media pages – all links are on the sidebar of my website, www.pink-tutu.com. And, of course, be sure to catch my weekly blog every Wednesday. Who knows, maybe one day, I’ll have a dance competition with a bunch of alien creatures dressed in fabulous pink tutus. Now wouldn’t that be a show to remember!
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have a galaxy to conquer – one pink tutu at a time.
Until next Wednesday, darlings! Stay twirling, and keep shining!
Love always,
Emma
Pink Tutu World: The Details of a Magical Day on Planet Earth
So, let’s recap. It’s been a magical few days on Planet Earth.
I was lucky enough to witness the Royal Ballet Company’s Swan Lake. The dancers were amazing, the choreography breathtaking, and those tutus! Oh those tutus! And Covent Garden was a real sight! What a fabulous market, bustling with people, food, and of course, unique finds! There were even some wonderful vintage shops and boutiques brimming with colourful costumes. It felt like stepping into another world – with more than just one kind of glitter and sparkle!
Speaking of dazzling shops and treasures, one of the main reasons why I visit the planet Earth (apart from those fabulous tutu makers!) is because of the shopping! It's truly the best fashion experience in the entire galaxy.
While shopping and finding out more about Earth’s ballet history are fantastic, what makes Earth so interesting is its people. So much warmth and generosity. And, for a fashion blogger, there is no better combination than friendly people, fabulous fashion, and endless opportunities for gorgeous photoshoots. So thank you, planet Earth, for welcoming me once again with your endless supply of stylish finds, beautiful ballets, and magical experiences!
Here’s a breakdown of how the day went:
Wednesday, October 13th, 2021
Morning
- Woke up in a delightful hotel suite decorated with shimmering silver and a hint of pink. Of course, I had my ballet gear ready for the day. My outfit? My favourite fuchsia-pink tulle tutu (which had been custom-designed to match the silver hotel decorations), paired with a comfy black bodysuit for movement, and sparkly ballerina flats with silver embellishments. And don't forget the pink lip gloss for an extra pop of colour!
- Headed out for breakfast at a charming little cafe that looked like it had been pulled from a vintage film – it even had the requisite polka dot tablecloth and old-fashioned furniture.
- Savoured the most divine breakfast – a fluffy stack of pancakes topped with raspberries and maple syrup, followed by a mug of warming pink herbal tea.
- Afterward, I popped into the nearby Marks and Spencer - my ultimate go-to place on this planet for amazing fashion finds. Honestly, you could get lost in this place with its fabulous variety of clothes, food, and home goods. But of course, I made a beeline for the Style department – my favourite place on the entire planet for cute outfits! And I couldn't leave without a selection of pink and silver-themed chocolates to munch on throughout the day!
- Spent a few glorious hours exploring the fashion districts of Oxford Street and Covent Garden and, naturally, indulged in an afternoon tea. It wasn't just any old tea – it was an extra-fancy afternoon tea in a boutique hotel where the pastries were sprinkled with sugar blossoms, and the cakes were served on crystal platters. Now, that's a truly memorable experience!
- I decided to spend the afternoon trying out a new street food - this was one of the must-dos for my Earth experience. After seeing a million and one street food videos before I came to this planet, I felt I had to experience the joy of deliciousness for myself.
- I headed over to the bustling, vibrant Covent Garden and had an adventure. There were a gazillion vendors cooking everything under the sun! I tried a savoury pancake with bacon, sausage, and mushroom – absolutely delicious!
Evening
- Now, it was time for my most anticipated event: a visit to see Swan Lake at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden! I couldn’t wait to see the dancing, the gorgeous costumes, and the magnificent stage. Of course, I put on my very special sparkly evening gown.
- What else did I wear for this fabulous occasion? Well, you just had to have sparkles. There’s really no other way to put it. It was, the most magical night out in London.
- After the Swan Lake performance, it was time for dinner. I couldn’t let this beautiful night come to an end without some fabulous night-time views and cocktails in a rooftop bar, with the city sparkling in the night. My evening cocktail was pink, of course, with a sprinkle of edible glitter on top. It was almost as enchanting as my sparkling, pink-tinged evening gown. I could imagine myself at the London version of the famous Empire State Building in New York City. Of course, I posed for loads of amazing photographs as a lovely reminder of this enchanting night.
The day was truly unforgettable – packed with excitement, beauty, deliciousness, and of course, those incredible tutus! I’ll be back again on planet Earth very soon, I just know it!
I can't wait to explore more of this fabulous planet, try even more delicious treats (I have my eye on the rainbow cupcakes from a quaint bakery down the road), and continue on my mission to share the joy of pink tutus with every being on Earth (and beyond!).
