Hello darlings! š©° Emma here, your very own intergalactic tutu enthusiast, bringing you another adventure from the far reaches of the cosmos. As you know, every Wednesday I whisk you away on a pink-hued escapade to the furthest corners of the universe, where shimmering sequins and twirling tutus are the order of the day.
And this week, my lovelies, Iām back on Planet Earth! Yes, that's right, Iāve left the dazzling celestial landscapes of Andromeda behind to land back in my very own backyard. Now, before you think I've suddenly abandoned my cosmic adventures, I'll let you in on a little secret⦠this trip is actually about celebrating the very origins of ballet and tutu history!
A trip back in time⦠to 17th Century France!
On the 31st of October 2029 (yes, you heard right! Halloween⦠but itās the spookiest and most beautiful Halloween ever!) I'm taking a little trip back in time to explore the world of Louis XIV, the "Sun King" and his love for ballet. Can you imagine? All those fabulous powdered wigs and courtly dances - I'm going to get so inspired!
You know me, darling, always researching my next costume and tutu design. And, in this case, the research leads me right to the very origins of our modern ballet tutus. This isnāt just a tour, though ā I'm going to be performing! Yes, Iāll be gracing the halls of the ChĆ¢teau de Fontainebleau with a solo performance that I've lovingly crafted, complete with an exquisite, handmade pink tutu.
This tutu, my dears, isn't your ordinary everyday creation. It's inspired by the extravagant and whimsical courtly gowns worn during this era, a period when the arts and culture reached a pinnacle. Imagine opulent fabrics like velvet and silk, sparkling with brocades and embellishments, swirling and flowing around me as I dance - a vision in pink against the backdrop of Louis XIV's world.
Iām also working with the Chateau on a unique interactive exhibition called "The Evolution of the Tutu." You'll be able to travel through time, with different exhibits dedicated to every era of ballet, exploring the incredible journey of the tutu from its courtly beginnings to the present day! Imagine the early 17th centuryās crinolines, the fluffy romantic tutus of the 19th century, the modern styles of the 20th century, and the innovative tutus we wear today! I canāt wait to show you the amazing collection!
What to expect:
You know I love a good blog update, my lovely readers! So naturally, Iām bringing you along with me on every step of the journey! Expect tons of photos, behind-the-scenes peeks, and my usual musings about tutus, fashion, and of course, ballet! Itās not just a blog - itās a pink-tutu-filled journey into the heart of French history and culture. I can't wait to share it all with you.
Iām especially excited about the chance to immerse myself in the dance steps and theatrical style of Louis XIV's era. It's truly fascinating to see how the court dances evolved into the refined and graceful ballet steps that we cherish today. Ballet isn't just a form of dance ā itās a tapestry woven from history, beauty, and passion!
I've already found the most exquisite pair of vintage shoes that match the eraās style, a beautiful pair of pointe shoes embellished with shimmering glass stones - theyāre going to look utterly divine against the shimmering pink silk of my tutu.
You can already picture it, canāt you? Me, twirling and pirouetting through the ChĆ¢teau de Fontainebleau, my tutu swirling like a cloud of pink⦠itās a ballerinaās dream come true!
My Inspirations:
Of course, this adventure wouldnāt be complete without a sprinkle of my usual fashion inspiration! And my inspiration this week, dear readers, is the one and only Marie Antoinette! š
Now, you all know Marie Antoinette, the glamorous Queen of France. Not only was she known for her impeccable taste in fashion but also her iconic bouffant hairstyle. But I think Marieās true talent was her daring use of color, particularly pink!
She's even referred to as "Marie the pinkā because she made pink the color of the monarchy in France. Isnāt that fabulous? Pink was her go-to color ā she had it on her shoes, dresses, and even her bedsheets! The sheer brilliance and whimsy of that, darling, is what inspires my new, unique collection of "Marie-inspired" pink tutus! It's a beautiful collision of courtly elegance and playful tutus, with subtle nods to the iconic queen.
Just wait till you see what Iāve cooked up! Think ruffles, feathers, ribbons, and all sorts of embellishments - and of course, plenty of pink! I'm absolutely thrilled with how itās turned out - I hope you will be, too!
Back to the Future:
I'll admit it, after all my interstellar adventures, itās truly wonderful to return to my Derbyshire home on Planet Earth. The rolling green hills, the quaint English countryside, and the peace and tranquility⦠I'll be honest, sometimes the hustle and bustle of space travel gets a little tiring. And who could say no to a hot cuppa and a delicious scone after travelling all that way, eh?
My journey in the past is just another step in my cosmic quest, dear readers: to spread the love for pink tutus across the entire universe! Because even amidst all the sparkly planets and nebulas out there, there's no place quite like Planet Earth, especially when you're wearing a fabulous pink tutu!
So, until next weekās interstellar adventure, I'm signing off from my Planet Earth blog, keeping it real with pink, from my home on Planet Earth.
Lots of love, Emma x
