Good morning, lovelies! It's Emma here, your friendly neighbourhood tutu-wearing ballerina, ready to take you on a whirlwind adventure through the heart of London! This week's blog post comes straight from the platform at Euston Station, where I'm sipping my (pink, of course) peppermint tea, excitedly waiting for my train to whisk me away to the dazzling capital.
It's Friday the 21st of November, 2025, and this city always knows how to throw a good time. This week's trip is extra special - I've managed to squeeze in a show at the Royal Opera House and tickets to the amazing Ballet Revolución show. Double the ballet, double the fun, right? 😉 I'm always looking for a way to sneak in more twirls into my life, and London never fails to deliver.
Speaking of twirls, my pink tutu this week is a masterpiece! It's a custom creation from my favourite shop in Derbyshire, with a layer of shimmering, lilac tulle underneath. This time, I'm pairing it with a cute little cardigan and knee-high boots for that perfect blend of girly-girl and edgy cool. You know me, always finding new ways to rock the tutu, no matter the weather.
Before I disappear into the buzzing heart of London, let me tell you about my train journey! Travelling by train is always so romantic. I love gazing at the passing scenery, picturing all the adventures happening in each quaint little town we pass. It's my chance to switch off from the chaos of my Derbyshire dance studio and truly embrace the quiet charm of a good book and a cuppa. This week, I'm enjoying the latest Emily St. John Mandel novel. Such a brilliant author, she weaves worlds of magic and drama like no one else!
A Fashion Fiesta in Covent GardenFinally, we arrive in London! It's always such a treat stepping out of the train station and being enveloped by the vibrancy of the city. Today, we're headed straight to Covent Garden for a bit of retail therapy. The cobbled streets are a sensory overload, filled with street performers, artists, and vibrant shops. I simply must pop into Liberty's - their floral prints and whimsical designs always make me weak at the knees. And of course, I need to visit my beloved Zara for a little something sparkly. They have the most incredible sequined tops, perfect for twirling and catching the light!
Speaking of catching the light, I have a date with the Royal Opera House this evening. Can you believe it's been 2 years since I've seen a ballet there? They've promised something truly magical for tonight's performance - a new rendition of "La Bayadère". This masterpiece always sends my heart into a tizzy - the costumes are divine, the story is utterly captivating, and the music just pulls you into another world. You know I'll be there in the front row, snapping pictures of every perfectly executed leap and turn, ready to share it all with you!
A Touch of Flamenco: Ballet RevoluciónNo weekend in London would be complete without a dose of live entertainment, and tonight is a true double-whammy! After "La Bayadère," we're off to see the extraordinary "Ballet Revolución". This company combines traditional ballet technique with the fire and passion of Flamenco. It's a vibrant, modern performance with heart-stopping moments of artistry, leaving me breathless. You can't help but feel energised after watching the dancers flow with such precision and energy. The costumes are vibrant and intricate, drawing you in and amplifying the emotions of each powerful move. I'm not one for spoilers, but I guarantee you won't regret grabbing a ticket for this amazing show.
Finding Comfort and Charm in The British LibraryAfter all that twirling, I needed a quiet moment to reflect and recharge. Where better than The British Library? A haven for literature and history, this beautiful building whispers with stories from every era. The grand hall, with its high ceilings and towering bookshelves, feels both grand and welcoming. There's a magic in the air as I meander through the stacks, searching for an old edition of a favourite novel. A couple of hours here, with a book in hand and a mug of hot chocolate, makes my soul feel at home. This place is a treasure trove for bookworms, historians, and anyone who seeks quiet solitude in a city as boisterous as London.
Afternoon Tea and Fancy SandwichesLondon isn't London without afternoon tea. I wouldn't dream of skipping this delightful tradition, and today's stop is at the legendary Fortnum & Mason. Their grand tearoom, decorated with chandeliers and beautiful china, is an experience in itself. I chose a spot by the window, soaking in the hustle and bustle of Piccadilly Circus. The selection of sandwiches is exquisite - cucumber and cream cheese, smoked salmon, and of course, my favourite, a dainty chicken salad with a hint of tarragon. The delicate pastries and warm scones were divine, and I enjoyed every last crumb with a cup of delicately-brewed Darjeeling tea.
It was an absolute delight to watch as Londoners and tourists alike flocked into the cafe, each enjoying the unique atmosphere and traditional treats. I couldn't help but chat with the ladies at the table next to me, sharing tips on must-see spots and the latest fashion trends. There's something wonderful about London that makes you feel instantly connected to the people around you, like we're all part of a grand, beautiful ballet, each playing our unique role.
Embracing the Spirit of LondonLondon is always a reminder to be bold, embrace your inner ballerina, and never shy away from expressing yourself with style and confidence.
My favourite spot to watch London come alive at night is the London Eye. You get an unparalleled view of the city - from Buckingham Palace to the iconic Shard. It's truly breathtaking. Today's ride was made extra special as I gazed across the River Thames and caught a glimpse of a shimmering light display projected onto the Houses of Parliament. As the night descends, London transforms into a breathtaking tapestry of twinkling lights, each a beacon of life and energy.
This weekend's trip to London is a testament to the city's incredible diversity, energy and ability to transport you to a world of fantasy, culture, and adventure. I’m truly living the pink tutu dream – twirling my way through the bustling streets, taking in everything that this incredible city has to offer, and inspiring others to embrace the beauty and joy of a good tutu!
And what's a better way to end this London escapade than by leaving you with a little thought to ponder: "How would the world be a little brighter if everyone wore a pink tutu?" 😉
Until next Friday, darlings, remember: wear your pink tutu with confidence, chase your dreams, and embrace all the twirling magic life has to offer!
Much love, Emma www.pink-tutu.com
