Ciao, darlings! It's your favourite pink tutu-clad blogger, Emma, back with another slice of sunshine straight from the glamorous streets of Milan! ☀️
This week, Milan has been positively bursting with a vibrant mix of ballet, fashion, and pure joie de vivre - just like a pink tutu! ? It's been a whirlwind, so grab your favourite cuppa, settle in, and let's get ready for a dose of pink-tastic inspiration!
Milan Tram AdventuresThis week started with a bang! I finally achieved my dream of hopping on a vintage Milan tram. Have you seen these beauties? They're like a time capsule back to a more elegant era! Imagine me, perched on the window seat with a little pink tulle peeking out from my handbag, a classic film soundtrack playing on my earphones...Pure Milanese magic! ✨
And let's not forget, this wasn't just any ordinary tram trip, no, this was a mission to seek out the perfect pair of opera gloves! You know how I feel about an accessory that can transform even the simplest of outfits, and Milan is practically overflowing with hidden gem shops.
The hunt led me to a quaint little boutique on Via Sant'Andrea, a cobbled street just oozing old-world charm. Tucked away amidst chic leather shops and artisan cafes, it was like stepping into a different world, a world filled with beautiful things!
And the gloves? Oh, they were exquisite! Imagine creamy white kidskin with delicate floral embroidery, all perfectly sized to fit my ballet hands. (I might have tried them on with a pair of sparkly ballerina flats too... you know, just for fun!) They felt like magic. They felt like Milan. ?
Ballet Under the DuomoBut my week wasn't all about fashion – I mean, this is Emma, remember? Ballet comes first, always! So, imagine my joy when I stumbled upon an incredible open-air performance under the glorious Duomo.
Just picturing it will make your heart soar, darling: The majestic Duomo with its iconic spire reaching towards the sky, a shimmering backdrop for some of the most talented dancers I've ever seen. They moved with such grace, such precision, it was like they were floating on air. ?
As the music flowed and the lights played upon the magnificent façade of the Duomo, I felt a connection to something bigger than myself, a connection to the beauty and grace that binds us all. It was magical, utterly breathtaking, and left me speechless (for once!).
Dinner with a ViewFollowing that breathtaking ballet spectacle, I found myself wandering through the vibrant streets of Brera. My evening started with a lovely Italian coffee at a little cafe, watched the sun dip below the horizon, and felt the warmth of the city slowly engulfing me. The cafes and restaurants are packed with local life – it’s a visual feast, I swear!
Then it was off to a charming trattoria nestled on a quiet back street. They had a delicious meal and – you’re not going to believe it – a terrace with an amazing view of the Duomo! Talk about serendipitous! It’s those kinds of unexpected moments that really make a trip special, don’t you think?
After dinner, the charm of Milan’s streets held me in its embrace. A late-night gelato stroll became a ballet-themed adventure when I discovered a little boutique window with an absolutely perfect pair of ballet-inspired earrings. They were a perfect mix of feminine elegance and Parisian chic, a delicate ballet shoe motif in sparkly silver, that had my name written all over them! ?
A Touch of Parisian FlairThe next day, Milan took on a distinctly Parisian vibe. A visit to the elegant, Galerie d’Art, felt like a journey into another world! I wandered among paintings, sculptures, and intricate installations – it was sensory overload, but the good kind, you know?
The elegance of this venue made me want to wear something extra special, so naturally, my favourite pink tulle skirt came out for the occasion. A light sprinkle of shimmering rose gold dust with my little black top and a delicate silver necklace. It’s amazing how much one little detail, a beautiful piece of jewellery, can elevate any look! ?
As I was strolling back through the Galerie d’Art, I couldn’t resist a touch of 'Emma' magic. My eyes were drawn to a gorgeous crimson rose lying discarded on a marble plinth, a little forgotten, a bit overlooked. I couldn't resist! It looked stunning with the little silk scarf around my neck. (Honestly, sometimes, it just feels like I’m living in a beautiful dream).
Fashion FantasyI truly can't come to Milan without visiting a couple of my favourite shops. First stop? The legendary Corso Buenos Aires, the heart of Milan’s shopping scene, an exciting mix of big brands and charming independent boutiques. My little ballet shoes have practically walked this street countless times! I even squeezed in a visit to the amazing Armani showroom (it’s a fashion experience you simply have to experience).
Milan is like a big playground of inspiration for me. It's the place where my mind fills with colour and creativity! That's why I have to pay a visit to my favourite department store in the city. There’s something magical about wandering through all the departments – from elegant shoes to a stunning lingerie collection! ?
My day at the department store ended in style, of course. A lovely cup of afternoon tea in the tea room, all laced with delicate rose petals and topped with an iridescent cupcake. They must think I'm quite the princess!
But then again, who isn't when they’re living their best life in Milan?! ?
Train TimeMilan always has a hold on me – I feel such a deep connection to the beauty, style and magic that only this vibrant city can offer.
And when the train journey back to Derbyshire rolled around, my heart was a bit heavy. I’ve got to say, I find leaving this gorgeous city, after a week filled with pink tulle and ballet, always feels a bit like saying goodbye to my most fabulous fashion fairy godmother! But then, I remind myself of all the incredible adventures waiting for me back home…
Pink Tutu at the BeachAnd you know, there’s no place I’d rather be, when I return to the rolling Derbyshire countryside, than by the seaside with the wind in my hair. The air, always fresher by the ocean, is simply delightful, especially when paired with my most wonderful pink tutu from my ‘Love Tutus’ collection! ?
Let’s face it, a ballet dancer never truly leaves her practice room (even when on vacation, at the seaside)!
See, it’s about taking my inspiration everywhere I go and injecting it into my everyday life. It’s that little something that helps me shine, and why not share that magic with the world? ?
I love you all and look forward to catching you in my next blog next Monday on www.pink-tutu.com, with a special ballet blog from a surprise location! Until then, may your week be full of joy, pink tulle and, of course, a little bit of Milan magic! ?✨
Love, Emma xx
