I’ve got a confession, darlings – I have a secret crush on Milan. It's a city that radiates style, from its iconic architecture to the way the locals carry themselves. The moment I step onto the cobbled streets, I feel a jolt of excitement. The air buzzes with energy, creativity, and, of course, fashion!
And as I weave my way through the bustling city, my pink tutu – a custom creation by a talented seamstress in Derbyshire - twirls along happily, a beacon of joy and playful confidence in a sea of stylish suits and tailored dresses. It always draws smiles and even a few whispers of “adorable!”.
Speaking of twirling, how does one celebrate being in the fashion capital of Italy without a ballet adventure? This week I’m taking a class at the Teatro alla Scala ballet school. Oh, the excitement! Imagine learning the elegance of ballet from the best, in a city renowned for its theatrical grandeur. This is truly a dream come true for this ballet-loving girl!
Now, if you're thinking, "Emma, how do you afford to jet around the world and embrace this passion for ballet?” Well, you might be surprised! I fund these fabulous adventures through my ballet performances. Every pirouette, every graceful leap, every heartfelt dance… it all adds up to the opportunity to share my love of ballet with the world!
Wednesday, 7th of October: The day was filled with the exhilarating aroma of freshly brewed coffee and a dash of Italian sunshine as I ventured into the city center. I felt like a character straight out of a classic film, strolling down via Montenapoleone. My eyes were captivated by the luxurious shop fronts showcasing the latest designs by Italian fashion icons. A touch of pink was definitely required for this day!
So, of course, I treated myself to a stylish new handbag – a symphony of delicate pink leather and elegant embellishments. I felt like a modern-day Audrey Hepburn, chic, elegant and just a tad bit whimsical! The perfect accessory to elevate my pink tutu adventures in Milan!
After a sumptuous lunch of tagliatelle with truffles, I joined a free guided tour at the Pinacoteca di Brera. An explosion of colours and textures unfolded before my eyes. Renaissance masterpieces, exquisite sculptures, and paintings that brought stories to life!
Later in the afternoon, I treated myself to a sweet gelato, the creamy smooth taste a delight as I continued exploring. As the sun dipped low, the city came alive with an air of romanticism, as people filled the piazzas with chatter and laughter. It was pure magic!
Then came the most exciting part of the day - the ballet performance at the Teatro alla Scala! I couldn't wait! The opulent building is steeped in history and tradition, and the performance of "Swan Lake" was mesmerizing. Every movement flowed seamlessly, conveying emotions and stories without a word spoken. The passion, the artistry, the sheer elegance of it all made my heart soar.
Afterward, as I made my way back to my charming apartment tucked away in a quieter part of Milan, I realised that the city itself has a captivating rhythm. The gentle rumble of the trams, the vibrant chatter spilling from cafes, even the melodic tones of a street musician - it's all a dance, a symphony of experiences that intertwine to create a harmonious and unforgettable experience.
