Pink Tutu Milan - Post #1636 - Wednesday 14th October 2026

Buongiorno, darlings! It's Emma from the Pink Tutu, reporting live from the utterly enchanting city of Milan, Italia! This week I'm taking you on a whirlwind journey through the cobblestone streets and glittering avenues of fashion, ballet, and oh-so-much pink!

As you all know, I'm a Derbyshire girl at heart, but my pink tutu has a wanderlust spirit. I just can't resist the allure of exploring new corners of the world, and discovering the beauty that every city offers - especially when it comes to ballet! I'm funding my travels with my beloved ballet performances, because I'm convinced that there's nothing more magical than sharing the joy of dance with others. And you know what? Every single one of you could be a dancing diva!

From Derbyshire to Milan: A Whirlwind Romance

This week, my pink tutu found itself landing in the very heart of Italian fashion: Milan. The moment I stepped off the train (a comfy journey, let me tell you!) and saw the terracotta rooftops glistening in the golden Italian sunlight, my heart started to flutter. The air crackled with an electrifying energy, and I knew this trip would be something special.

There's just something so incredibly romantic about Milan, don't you think? From the charming vintage trams chugging their way through the historic city centre, to the cobbled squares bursting with laughter and life, every corner I turn in this city feels like stepping into a beautifully crafted film scene. And let's not forget the fashion, darling! Milan is the undisputed queen of haute couture, where fashion trends are born and the world looks to be inspired. It's truly a sensory feast!

The Glamour of the Teatro alla Scala

But hold on tight, because I haven't even told you about the real reason I came to Milan. Today, I'm going to experience one of the world's most prestigious ballet companies performing at the Teatro alla Scala! Imagine, dancing on that legendary stage, breathing the same air as some of history's greatest performers. My heart beats faster just thinking about it. I’ve seen the ballet at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden many times, so I am thrilled to be adding the Teatro alla Scala to my ballet bucket list.

Here’s a little sneak peek into what’s going to be performed tonight:

  • Don Giovanni, a story about a manipulative, dissolute seducer, with its classic music composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and choreography by Elena Glurdjidze. Elena has the most elegant and graceful ballet style, and her choreography really showcases that!

My camera is fully charged, ready to capture every elegant pirouette, graceful arabesque and breathtaking lift! I can’t wait to share the magical experience with all of you.

How to Style Your Pink Tutu for a Glamorous Ballet Evening

Let's face it, attending a ballet performance is the perfect occasion to really dress up! And what could be better than rocking a pink tutu, of course?!

Here’s how I plan on accessorising my pink tutu to match the majestic setting of the Teatro alla Scala. I know you'll all be channeling your inner prima ballerina in your own pink tutu too, but feel free to put your own individual spin on it:

  • The perfect foundation: You can never go wrong with a beautiful white camisole! A bit of lace peeking through the delicate tulle fabric adds an extra touch of sophistication and romanticism.

  • Layer on the luxe: I’m adding a stunning bolero or jacket for the perfect dose of theatre chic. Something in rich black velvet, a timeless leopard print or a luxurious velvet-textured cashmere would add a touch of Hollywood glam.

  • Statement Jewellery: Let your pink tutu shine! Opt for bold statement earrings with a hint of sparkle - think crystal drops or beautiful silver and pearl pieces. A dainty, elegant choker can accentuate the décolletage. And, of course, the crown jewel - a beautiful tiara. Go on, make like a princess, and wear your very best one!

  • Sleek & Chic Hairstyle: My favourite go-to hairstyle for a night at the ballet is a simple, yet chic, bun. I can also dress up my hair with a touch of pink by twisting a ribbon or adding a floral hairpiece. Just remember, the goal is to keep the focus on your radiant pink tutu.

*A little reminder for all you amazing ballet lovers out there, why not bring your very own Pink Tutu along to the next ballet performance you’re attending! * I promise you, the moment you start twirling around the foyer of a ballet theatre with your pink tutu on, the magical atmosphere will become electric! I’m living proof that ballet is even more special with a dash of pink.

Milan: Shopping Til We Drop (And Shopping for Pink!)

Speaking of fashion, Milan is the ultimate playground for shopaholics. I've been busy exploring the high-end boutiques, searching for a touch of Italian chic to add to my ever-growing collection. The fashion houses in Milan truly do embrace all that’s beautiful, luxurious and glamorous!

Oh, my dearest darlings, you will never guess what I found in the heart of Milan today. Yes, a fabulous, perfectly pink little something! The moment I set eyes on this dreamy creation, I knew it was destined for my ballet collection!

I couldn’t resist grabbing a shot of it, for all of you to see - I’m going to add it to my blog soon so you can admire it all in detail, but let’s just say it’s giving off major “prima ballerina ready for the big night” vibes. I can just imagine twirling and leaping in this gorgeous confection as I walk through the streets of Milan!

*Top Tips for a Fashionista on a Budget: *

It may come as no surprise to you all, that the designer boutiques here are as expensive as a five course dinner! But don’t despair. Even on a shoestring budget, Milan can be your oyster if you know where to look!

  1. Embrace the second-hand scene: Italy has a thriving second-hand and vintage market. It’s amazing for discovering hidden gems from a bygone era at very reasonable prices.

  2. Visit the “outlet cities”: A little bit of travelling away from the city center will allow you to visit outlet stores that are overflowing with luxury and fashion items for far less. If you love bargains, a trip to one of the outlets, will truly delight you!

  3. Hit the flea markets: Some of my most cherished fashion finds have come from Milan's buzzing flea markets, full of charming treasures waiting to be discovered. And best of all? Bargaining is always welcomed!

Tramways, Cathedrals and Culinary Delights

My days have been filled with exciting ballet performances, and even more exciting discoveries in the charming Milanese streets. Today I jumped on the tram and headed over to the Duomo di Milano - Milan’s incredible cathedral, where I’ve taken thousands of selfies (ok, maybe a bit of an exaggeration).

The Duomo's majestic Gothic architecture is truly breathtaking! Standing in its shadow and gazing upwards at the soaring spires makes me feel so incredibly small!

But even more important to any trip to Milan (and any city in Italy, really!), is indulging in the gastronomical delights the city has to offer! This week I've tried a whole selection of pasta dishes: a delightful spaghetti carbonara at a little family-run trattoria; an incredibly fresh and colourful salad from a trendy outdoor cafe; and a plate of lasagne (what a true classic!) from a buzzing street food market.

Milan's Unforgettable Flair

Milan, you are captivating. Your blend of fashion, culture, history and passion has truly captured my heart! From the intricate beauty of the Teatro alla Scala, the glamour of the high-end boutiques, the thrill of a perfect bargain at the flea market, and the delicious flavors of your culinary scene, I'm going to be reminiscing about this trip for a long, long time!

And if you’re planning a trip to Milan soon, don't be shy! I would love to hear all about your pink tutu travels - just comment below.

Remember to visit the Pink Tutu blog again next Monday for my latest adventure! Stay tuned for exciting updates on my ballet performances, my new finds in Milan, and (of course!) all the fabulous pink tulle fashion my heart desires.

A big pink tutu hug to all of you!
