Buongiorno, darlings! ☀️
This week's Pink Tutu adventure takes us to the vibrant streets of Milan! It's Wednesday, and that means another thrilling installment of "Pink Tutu Milan".
This week has been a whirl of pink tutus, glamorous gowns, and a touch of sunshine! From waltzing through the heart of the city on a classic tram to exploring the most breathtaking fashion boutiques, Milan is living up to its reputation for elegance and style. But as always, a girl can't resist a sprinkle of magic, and so, our adventures begin...
A Whirlwind of Pink & Parisian EleganceAh, Milan, a city that practically vibrates with fashion. This week, I couldn't resist a trip to the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II. The arched glass and iron structure, with its sparkling chandeliers and ornate shopfronts, is a true marvel. And who can resist browsing the exquisite displays at Dolce & Gabbana, Prada, and Versace? ?️ You'd think the mannequins themselves had a penchant for tutus! ?
Later that evening, I indulged in a little pre-show pampering. The elegant Four Seasons Hotel, perched atop the Galleria, has this divine "Pink Champagne Afternoon Tea". I mean, what else would I do but sip on pink fizz amidst an array of delicate finger sandwiches and exquisitely frosted pastries, all whilst twirling in my most decadent pink tulle skirt?
A Journey through Milanese CultureThursday, however, saw a change of pace. I embraced the soul of Milan by stepping off the beaten track. We took the "tram 2" line, the one that runs along the Navigli canal, and discovered hidden gem after hidden gem. There were bustling antique shops overflowing with vintage treasures, quaint cafes where locals lingered over steaming cups of espresso, and even a hidden oasis with a vibrant open-air market.
Speaking of "treasures," I happened upon a darling little boutique called "La Boutique du Tutu." It was full of beautiful ballet-inspired dresses, shoes, and accessories, everything a tutu-loving girl could wish for! Needless to say, a couple of gorgeous pieces made their way back to my Derbyshire apartment (don't worry, they'll be making their debut on the "Pink Tutu London" blog next week!). ?
Milan's Theatrical Gems: An Encore of PassionOf course, no trip to Milan is complete without experiencing its renowned opera scene! On Friday, I found myself transported to a world of operatic enchantment. "La Traviata" at La Scala Opera House - the very house where I danced as a girl. What a breathtaking night! Every note, every movement, resonated through the majestic hall.
The costumes, oh, the costumes! I'm utterly in awe of the detail and the vibrant hues. They spoke a language of their own - a silent ballet of textures, shimmering sequins, and opulent fabrics. And while I was, of course, mesmerized by the dancers' skill, the "pink tutu" in me couldn't help but imagine a scene where a chorus line of graceful figures twirled in a riot of pinks, creating a dazzling ballet of femininity! ?
From Ballet to the Ballet-InspiredAnd, wouldn't you know it, that's just what I did this morning! After an exquisite Breakfast of Champions (complete with pink sparkling juice and my own little homemade pink frosting croissant!), I took a private class at The Teatro Nuovo. This beautiful theater has such an atmosphere! And today's class was filled with other young ballet enthusiasts, each bringing their unique energy to the space. It's these shared moments, of movement and laughter, that remind me how interconnected we all are, bound together by our love for this graceful art form.
The theme today was "ballet-inspired" and we incorporated movements from classical ballet but in a way that is more fluid, with a little bit of jazz thrown in. It felt liberating to push my comfort zone a bit. I ended the session feeling stronger and filled with an exhilaration I haven't experienced in ages.
An Inspiration to Dance: The Power of PinkSpeaking of exhilarating experiences, you'll never believe who I ran into at the Gucci boutique! I swear, I nearly dropped my shopping bag in shock. It was Serena Williams herself! Of course, I wasn't going to let this moment pass without a quick "Hello".
Turns out, Serena was also an avid ballet fan, especially captivated by the work of Michel Fokine. Now, how cool is that?! We discussed our favorite ballets and exchanged stories about our dance journeys. I even shared my ambition of inspiring everyone to don a pink tutu and unleash their inner ballerina! She loved the idea and laughed heartily. You know, for a person who wins so much, she's truly grounded and inspiring. And guess what? I think she's actually going to wear pink on the court tomorrow for a special event. Isn't that amazing?!
And as the day winds down, I find myself feeling incredibly grateful. Grateful for the privilege of exploring this enchanting city, grateful for the beautiful moments that I've shared with fellow ballet lovers, and grateful for the kindness of strangers who brighten even the dullest of days with their warmth and joy.
And let's not forget the most important part! The joy of seeing my beloved pink tutu bringing so much happiness. I've seen young girls twirling in the streets, a flash of pink in a crowded park, a little girl dreaming of ballerinas on her birthday, and even an entire family in pink tutus. I'm not sure if it's the whimsical cuteness or the burst of femininity, but it's hard to resist the undeniable charm of the pink tutu!
Remember, darlings, it's never too late to unleash your inner ballerina! Just put on a pink tutu, let your heart soar, and dance like no one's watching!
Until next time, my dears,
Emma, xx
