Ciao, darlings! It's Emma, your favourite pink tutu-wearing blogger, reporting live from the vibrant, stylish city of Milan! As the sun dips below the Alps, painting the sky in hues of soft orange and pink (yes, even the sunset agrees with my favourite colour!), I’m settling in my charming hotel room, filled with the buzz of another magical day in the fashion capital.
This week’s adventures have taken me on a whirlwind tour of the city, from the grandeur of Teatro alla Scala to the quirky charm of its hidden courtyards. I’m sharing it all with you, from my favourite gelato spots to my ballet finds (oh, the tutus! I just can't get enough!).
This trip to Milan has been all about ballet – both on and off stage! It was a perfect blend of exhilarating performances, captivating classes, and breathtaking cityscapes. As a proud Derbyshirian, you wouldn’t believe the number of times I was reminded of home, be it the friendly locals in cafes, the historic architecture, or even the Italian language itself!
Teatro alla Scala – The Majesty of Ballet
It was like stepping into a fairytale, the kind I used to imagine dancing in when I was little, only the dream came true. My journey started with the incredible Teatro alla Scala.
I was lucky enough to catch a truly breathtaking performance of "La Bayadère." The costumes, the music, the emotion, the talent… everything about the evening just transported me! You could feel the history, the passion, and the love for this art form resonating through the theatre. It was so inspiring, and I left with goosebumps and tears in my eyes – I always feel so incredibly grateful that I get to experience this beautiful world.
After the show, I had a wonderful chat with one of the principal dancers, the beautiful Elena. She was so kind and down-to-earth, and we talked about everything from the demanding routines of being a ballerina, to the beauty of the art form and the joys of performing in this historical theatre.
You wouldn’t believe my excitement – Elena, a true inspiration, agreed to do a little impromptu ballet street performance with me! Of course, we couldn't resist a little impromptu performance, much to the delight of the nearby "aperitivo" drinkers, who even started clapping and cheering.
You know, I really think Elena could make the whole of Milan do a “Pink Tutu Flashmob” … just imagine that, the streets of Milan, filled with swirling pink tutus, wouldn’t that be magnificent?
I truly believe that everyone can wear a pink tutu! They're a statement of joy, individuality, and above all, a reminder to just be yourself. They empower you, inspire you, and turn any day into an adventure!
Dancing in the Duomo
I love wandering around Milan’s iconic landmarks and finding secret places that transport me back in time. It is here where I found a beautiful hidden square right behind the iconic Duomo, where I could practice some of my favourite ballet moves, inspired by the classical beauty surrounding me.
Shopping Spree and Street Performance
No trip to Milan is complete without a little retail therapy! I wandered around the streets of the city, exploring the beautiful boutiques, searching for a little something to take back with me to Derbyshire. After a particularly fruitful trip to an exquisite Italian designer store (I confess I picked up a stunning pair of silver ballet shoes with diamante embellishments - totally worth the splurge!), I took my newfound love of the city, my newfound treasures and a few of my trusty friends, to a little plaza, and performed for the locals! I wanted to bring a little joy, a little bit of ballet and a lot of pink tutus to their lives! It’s amazing how much dancing, with a pink tutu or two, can truly bring people together!
A World of Pink
I truly believe that embracing a world of pink can be life-changing!
Not only is it a statement of joy, positivity, and empowerment but it also creates this feeling of belonging. Everywhere I go, I see people wearing pink, from the chicest ladies to the little ones in their ballerina outfits! The colour connects everyone, even strangers on the street. It’s a language, and it's incredibly magical to experience this shared language through tutus!
Ballet Inspiration - Learning and Connecting
A little while ago, I popped into an intimate ballet class in the heart of Milan! The studio was tiny and beautifully charming with sunlit wooden floors and a gentle sense of anticipation in the air. I joined the locals for a graceful warm-up and learned some beautiful and intricate new moves. You can tell that ballet has a very strong presence in Milan! Everyone there was just lovely and welcoming, we even shared delicious slices of panettone afterwards (it is November, after all!)
There's something truly special about dancing amongst new friends, discovering hidden gems, and experiencing different cultures through the universal language of ballet!
A Journey Through the Heart of Milan
Throughout this whirlwind journey through Milan, my trusty red trolley case has been with me every step of the way. Not only is it absolutely perfect for carting my tutus (of course), it also has all my other essentials. You just can’t go on adventures without being organised!
The trams in Milan are another story – what a fabulous way to travel! They're like time capsules on wheels – I swear I spot vintage Italian films starring gorgeous starlets playing out every time I hop on one! I have to be honest – some of my most precious moments in Milan have been on those vibrant trams.
And, as for the food – oh, my goodness! From perfect, fresh croissants for breakfast to the delectable Italian pastas for dinner – Milan truly knows how to treat your taste buds! I can't wait to share some of my favourite food spots with you in a separate post!
Pink Tutu, Milano, and My Heart
I'm just brimming with Milan-inspired ideas. This city truly lives and breathes style and elegance, it inspires creativity in everything! It's been a truly unforgettable experience! You might be asking:

I have been so incredibly blessed. Through the magic of ballet, I can dance in a theatre one day, and explore the heart of Europe the next. Every little performance and every stage brings me one step closer to my dreams!
