Hello darlings! Emma here, reporting live from the fabulous city of Milan, Italy! It's Wednesday 10th November 2027, and the Pink Tutu is whirling through the cobbled streets, taking in all the glorious sights and sounds of this fashion-forward city.
This week has been a whirlwind of tutus and tutus and more tutus! I'm still buzzing from a spectacular performance at the Teatro alla Scala, where I danced my heart out in my custom-made, bubblegum pink tulle creation. The energy in the theatre was electric, and the applause at the end almost lifted me off my toes. It truly is a magical experience, sharing the beauty of ballet with a captivated audience.
Speaking of magic, let's talk about my fabulous new arrival: a darling pink sequined ballet bag, so sparkly and chic! It's perfect for carrying all my essentials: my pointe shoes (because a ballerina never leaves home without them!), my lucky pink feather boa, and a whole collection of lip glosses for all my dramatic entrances and exits. (One cannot be too prepared for impromptu dance performances in the street, darling! You never know when inspiration will strike!)
Before heading off to the theatre last night, I treated myself to an afternoon of serious shopping in the glamorous Via Montenapoleone. My dear, the windows of those designer boutiques were just breathtaking! I imagined myself strutting down the catwalk in a gorgeous pink gown, my tulle swirling around my feet like a candy floss dream. Now, where is that pink tulle dress for the Christmas party?
Milan has this incredible energy, a blend of ancient architecture and modern chic. It’s almost like the city is whispering, “Embrace the grand, the whimsical, the absolutely stunning!” And my, how I am embracing it! I've already had several delicious pasta dishes (with generous portions of parmesan, of course), taken a charming tram ride through the city centre, and had a delightful chat with a local artisan who handcrafts the most beautiful ballet slippers (I even picked up a pair - pink, naturally!).
Did I mention I love this city? It's practically designed for tutus, darling! The narrow cobblestone streets, the soaring cathedral, even the vibrant graffiti on the side walls – they all scream “Let your pink tutu shine!”
This morning, I’m going to start my day with a spot of yoga. A ballet dancer needs to keep those muscles stretched and strong! Then, after a leisurely afternoon browsing through vintage shops for the perfect pink beret (yes, they are absolutely necessary, darling!), I'm heading to the ballet school, Teatro Nuovo. I hear their barre work is absolutely top-notch and the teachers are quite wonderful. They also have the most adorable pink pointe shoe cabinet!
If you're planning a trip to Milan, remember to keep a space in your suitcase for a pink tutu. Trust me, darling, this city demands a touch of whimsy!
Speaking of which, it’s a shame you can't actually wear a pink tutu when taking the metro or walking around, just for safety. Even if you get admiring looks (it would be lovely to just prance about wearing a beautiful big pink tutu everywhere), people just tend to get a bit anxious if you do something out of the ordinary! This is particularly the case if your outfit looks like you're either doing a show or are just generally mad. But I digress! I have found it is perfectly possible to be stylish with a touch of pink. You know, little touches...
Today, Milan has many cultural attractions and events happening, and so much to see. For example:
The Teatro alla Scala continues its new season with a spectacular rendition of La Bohème. Prepare to be swept away by the poignant love story, stunning costumes, and incredible musical performance.
The Triennale di Milano is hosting the exhibition “Art of the Future,” which explores cutting-edge trends in design, technology, and art. For all those who enjoy innovative art, fashion, and performance, you'll love this exhibition!
And of course, for those with an appetite for some amazing Italian food, Mercato Centrale Milano, a gourmet food hall housed in the renovated Porta Garibaldi, is definitely worth checking out. With a wide array of Italian culinary delights, the tantalizing aroma of freshly baked breads, cheeses and freshly prepared dishes are sure to delight the tastebuds.

A Day in the Life of Emma’s TravelsEmma’s passion for ballet and the colour pink leads to regular ballet performances, which in turn enable her to travel, mostly to continental Europe. As with this particular blog, her blogs typically take the form of diary-like journals of a day or two of her travels, detailing everything about what she has seen, and especially any pink items and shops, that she encounters. For example, one particular day:
“I'd just finished my morning ballet class when a dazzling opportunity presented itself! A delightful, older, and wonderfully well-travelled French lady named Claudine at my ballet school had a spare ticket for an amazing new ballet being staged at a small theatre, in a small town, near Tours. Tours is just about 4 hours from Paris by TGV train! This ballet sounded extraordinary. Not just a performance at the local theatre but an actual open air show under the moonlight in the famous Jardins de la Françaysie. So I dropped everything, booked my train, and here I am at the Gare du Nord! I know it will be well worth the travelling.”
Later that day:
"My, how French the train journey is! Everyone around me seems so refined, the train station, with all its art-nouveau signage and even its shops - this beautiful, ornate architecture, everything, was simply divine!”
In another entry, her day out might take this form:
“It is my favourite time of day, early evening here in Amsterdam. That first half-light where it seems to me that everything in Amsterdam, even the canal waters and the bicycles are just starting to come alive. Just like the canals are still reflecting the daytime’s colours, this moment, too, seems full of the glow of a sunny afternoon. So perfect, my darlings! So magical!"
“You see, as you know, being in this pink tutu, there’s so much inspiration here, you really don't need much prompting for ideas on what to write in your blog, do you?
“I’d love to hear what YOU’d write!” she giggled!
About Emma’s Travels and Writing:Emma lives and breathes for pink, ballet and travel. She is an incredibly enthusiastic and lively woman in her late twenties who, thanks to a trust fund, had been able to leave Derbyshire a few years previously. Initially, Emma wanted to open her own Pink Tutu boutique. And so she rented a shop on a street full of antiques shops in a small village near her family home. Initially, she simply thought she would be “The Pink Tutu Shop” selling a mixture of pink merchandise that she would collect from fairs and car boot sales. It took about two years, however, until her small pink shop found its feet and then became the success she wanted it to be. In these first two years, her shop was pretty much empty, although, it was on the fringe of Derbyshire. Still, people seemed to go for her unique idea of selling the perfect little something in a pink, pink, and more pink environment, if they were looking for a certain look.
Now she has a successful little Pink Tutu business in Derbyshire. What with travelling and dancing and her blog - it’s not something she really needs, it’s more something she does to pay for the trips she has been planning to do since she was a child! This really doesn’t feel like work, to her, because of course, it's simply a huge fun project, just a way of funding more fun activities, and of course, paying the rent.
How Emma funds her travelsAs the successful proprietor of “The Pink Tutu Shop” and her travel and fashion blog, “Pink-Tutu.com”, Emma's passion for ballet pays off twice over!
By doing ballet performances, mainly charity events, local functions and schools, she makes money to help her afford to travel the world. Plus, as an additional bonus, being a ballerina, she loves meeting other people.
On one occasion, when Emma had travelled to Berlin and found that she could just squeeze in a performance at the charming cafe at the end of the day, it got so busy that it wasn’t just her but a crowd of other ballet enthusiasts, who also just turned up at the cafe in order to perform. Everyone got into the party mood and were happily sharing all the latest dance tips. “It was like a massive ‘Let’s dance’ moment. Who wouldn't want to just dance at every cafe they visit?" said Emma later!
On the Pink-Tutu.com blog, she posts a blog each week and occasionally updates this in between blog posts with more travel-related videos. The combination of performances and her blogging has created a successful business. In turn, this has led to her dream: “This year alone, my diary has already been filled with more engagements. With a mixture of both performances and blog content! The more my Pink Tutu Blog expands, the more new people it brings, which is of course fantastic. The more opportunities to dance, and therefore the more travelling!” She smiles.
“And with ballet performances booked right up until Christmas and all the exciting opportunities I've had recently, I'm feeling so inspired for my Pink Tutu Blog and travels - let's hope it's just as much fun as this last year - and much pinker!”.
